I'm not sure where to post this, but here goes:
I think having to post a certain number of times before you're eligible to create threads is harming the activity in these forums.

I registered here to engage in certain discussion subjects, but I couldn't find threads about it, so I kinda didn't feel like posting replies *just* to get the thread making privileges, and I don't feel like asking people to post on my behalf.

I know this is done to cull the trolls/spammers/account suiciders, but mods should be able to deal with those kind of people swiftly, right?

From what I am aware, the required post number is pretty low. I mean, you have 2 posts to your name and this is one of them.

I understand where you are coming from, but it’s really not too difficult.

It's not about being difficult or not... I mean, I can spam posts just to reach the required level, but should I? My posts would be 'filler' and spamlike, and won't contribute much to the forum.

I'd rather post because I want to, not because I need to reach a certain level.

You can post. But, you are choosing not to.

In terms of thread creation, what do you want a thread about that you can’t find? Maybe you missed it?

Hi there, LOONG time lurker from Italy here.
I tried to join before the "civil war" but my email address was always refused. Glad to finally be part of this community, maybe for the better because I find the forum very welcoming now.
I enjoy trekking, meditation, retrogaming and drowning on nostalgia of the "old games were better".
My avatar of choice is my smug face on the Cebreiro hill, during my last Santiago pilgrimage.
Nice to meet you guys, see you soon!

Hey everyone! Life long gamer but first time really in the community. Started a new job about a year ago and for the first time got to do steady work without interruptions so I started listening to gaming podcasts. From there I've developed a passion to learn more about games, developers, ideas, and just jump into the deep-end of this community. I did always try to watch E3 every year and watch G4, but there was always so much I didn't understand or didn't play so I lost interest. I'm really into esports and love having anything on if my favorites aren't.

Hi All! I recently heard about this forum. I enjoy reading fiction/fantasy books, playing card games, adventure, HOG games, and platformers. Also, I regularly play Hearthstone and have played Eternal on Steam.

My computer is over 8 years old, so I am unable to play high spec Steam games.

In my free time, I do yoga, meditate, play games with my brother, and watch various TV shows and movies.

Hey, name's Odhin (not) and I'm from Portugal. Long time lurker but never managed to get an account here. I like games and also discussing them. Movies (more tv shows nowadays actually), Music, Sports (mainly Football/Soccer and NBA) are also big interests of mine and I enjoy weekend nightouts with friends.

Thats pretty much it for now ;)

Fujan here! Almost 31 years old already from the Netherlands. Basicly a lurker always on every forum I visit, and after "witnessing" everything that went down I've came to the realisation that is by far the better community and like to bring a small part to it.

Hello everyone I’m Raymond. Hope you are all doing well. Hoping to meet some gaming friends. I’ve been gaming alone for years now and I’m getting quite lonely. But I wanted to try a forum in making gaming friends. I play on the Switch, only have Fortnite at the moment but I’ll be getting more multiplayer’s soon :).

Greetings. Just wanted to check this place out since it seems the tumor that was infecting this forum voluntarily excised itself. I'm looking forward to discussing video games with a group of diverse people both physically and intellectually.

Used to be a pain in the ass, yeah, but it's a more reasonable 50 posts now (and a month since registration).
I've been here for well over 50 posts and coming up to month and was wondering when I would change, but this makes sense now.

also, I never formally introduced myself!

Hi, I'm Michael, was looking for a new forum to drop in on since other forums I used to post on seem to be quiet a lot of the time seemed kind of pointless me hanging around really, but everyone is always lively here and been some good discussions thus far!

Honestly I have no idea where or why I came up with this username... I've been watching a metric shit-ton of baking shows lately, so maybe the concept got drilled into my subconscious .

I thought "wouldn't it be cool to have my name be Keylime, and then have the pi symbol for an avatar?!" and here we are.

So your mod occupation is to review my novel length reports that i occassionally as part of a ongoing research project about ''The Demographics of GAF: A Study in the How, Why, and When of a forum report''? :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Either way, if that is the case: Hello!
And if it is not: Hello!!! :messenger_smiling_with_eyes:

Your name instantly struck me by as a variation of a very well known and infamous user with a nearly similar name. So when i saw it, i was like: ''Not even GAF would let that user get back in like that.'' :)

So Key, what will you be doing for our community? What's your role? :)
Well first and foremost my biggest contribution to the site as a mod has been that I recommended that we add a heart emoji...and it's here now thanks to Avasarala.

So you're welcome!

So you are the Heart Emoji Bringer? ;)
Pardon me for my earlier question though - You already stated as much as to what you would be doing here. And to that, i welcome you! :)

Hi everyone,
Happy to be here, liking the new direction the forum is going and want to partake in the discussion.
I'm from Georgia, US originally but currently am stationed overseas with the Navy. Looking forward to talking with y'all.
Thanks for serving. What role (even generally, if you'd prefer not to give details) in the Navy, if you don't mind me asking?

I am Ofer,

I was searching for forum posts about Archon, because I made a game in that style.
So I saw this thread about people looking for games similar to Archon, but I can't post there as a neophyte, also I am not sure if it's allowed to post on my own game.

Anyway, I am a hobbyist game developer on my free time. And a programmer at my "real" job.
To be honest I didn't realize there are still forums with more than a few hundred users. Most forums nowadays seem to be really small.
So it's refreshing to see such a big forum.

Hey I'm Mo, french Canadian, mostly post here from work. Love me some games, food and microbrews. I've been lurking here for some time , only registered an account earlier this year. Avid fan of movies and Tv series. I live alone with my existential dread and occasional tinder meets. Thankful for great friends and family who challenge me to be better.

Hi members, both new and old. ;)

We've set this imaginatively titled thread up as a friendly, welcoming space for people to just say "Hi" and maybe share a few words about themselves. This was my introduction from the thread we created for staff members, it doesn't need to be anything of that size though, anything would be great.

Maybe tell us what sort of games you like, what games your looking forward to, what non-gaming things you're interested in and maybe even a little bit about your choice of avatar.

REMINDER: THE DEFAULT AVATARS WILL BE REMOVED SHORTLY SO YOU'LL NEED TO UPLOAD ONE VIA YOUR ACCOUNT AT THE VERY TOP OF THE PAGE OR REQUEST A CUSTOM AVATAR HERE - Official NeoGAF Avatar Request Thread (work in progress)
We actually have several hundred brand new members that have just been joined up (Neophytes), I've added a few links below so that newer members can find their way to threads that may be of use to them.

------------------------------
BASIC MEMBERSHIP TYPES

There are three main types of membership on NeoGAF which I'll give a brief overview on below. You may also see other types of members in the community but these are the "standard" membership types.

Neophytes - The absolute newest of members.
  • Unable to create new threads. (Neophytes can now request to have a thread created on their behalf, follow this link for details.)
  • Unable to send messages using the NeoGAF messaging service. Able to receive messages though.
  • Unable to edit own posts after five minutes.
  • All posts are unpublished until a member of staff validates and publishes the posts.
  • Unable to enter NeoGAF Giveaways.

Neo Members - Have been seen to contribute positively to the forum.
  • Unable to create new threads.

Members - Have demonstrated a sustained positive contribution to the forum.
  • No member restrictions.

Although number of posts are also a factor in people moving from one type of membership to another, the reason we're not listing specifics is because it isn't solely based on that so somebody who has contributed positively could well be moved earlier than somebody with twice as many posts. Don't spam posts and expect to be moved earlier because it's very easy for the move to be delayed if we see that you're having a negative effect of the community.

Although being a full Member is permanent, in the general sense, it is possible for people to have rights removed if its deemed fit by the team. This would be unusual but it certainly isn't unheard of.

As some may already have noticed, we now have a Giveaways Tab at the top of the page, we're currently hosting our first giveaway and it's very much a work in progress but each individual giveaway can be set with a required minimum membership level rather than there being an overall requirement, so it's always worth checking there. Neophytes will not normally be able to enter though but as this one is a bit of test run for us, it is actually possible.

If you are a Neophyte and are wanting to contact staff for something and it isn't appropriate to use the Report Function (Reporting inappropriate posts) or the Error Reporting & Feedbackthread then you are able to do this using the Contact Us tab at the very bottom of the page or by using this email address - support@neogaf.com

Although you may find that you have more or less privileges than other members with different membership types, it doesn't mean that one type of member has authority over other members, it's not a rank and should never be treated as such.

------------------------------

Welcome to all members and thank you all for your contributions here, there's been a lot of support from the community here recently and we all hope that the you will lead by example for the new people rather than just relying on us to tell people what to do.

Hello! Long time lurker for about 4-5 years now, I took a long break from doing online content but recently figured I might as well try to get back into it. I got introduced to neogaf by a friend who does twitch full time and all that, so I found it a great place to find news and things gaming related :). Looking forward to getting to know the community, helping out people and generally becoming a much more active member.

This is Xiangle. Moved from Hong Kong to Europe at a very young age and ended up doing some spritework (and localization, as apart as those two tasks are) for a few old videogames. My relationship with the industry ended right there, but my love for videogames and everything around them didn't. Now I'm a full time mom of two and I couldn't be more proud about it.
