Define a “real normal” president? Would this be someone of an established political dynasty? Who is allied with the media and powerful corporations with an interchangeable (R) or (D) behind their name?

Personally I want a populist as president, someone who breaks these sort of power structures that our founding fathers - especially Washington during his final address- warned us about as being destructive to the very fabric of our nation.

Now Trump wasn’t my choice, but I have to say, he isn’t doing a bad job. Depending on who the Democrat leadership seems worthy of a supported candidacy, he just may get my vote. I’d prefer a Yang or a Gabbard as president, but a Trump is vastly superior to a Booker or a Harris.
The enlightened centrist approach of both sides are the same.

How hard is it to define a normal president? Let's keep the bar extremely extremely low so certain people can follow along.

  • Let's start with a normal president who doesn't lie so often and about simple shit. Trump has made 8,158 false or misleading claims in his first two years. This doesn't even count the very dishonest campaign he ran. I welcome anyone to show any presidential candidate who has been more dishonest.
  • How about a president who understands and respects science? Sure you can disagree with the findings or the experts from time to time, but if you're ignoring science and facts you're dumb as fuck.
  • A normal president, even a normal person, would not intentionally sabotage government and harm people. The tax cuts were made to fuck more liberal states. You don't sabotage Obamacare intentionally so it harms people when there is nothing to gain. You would never throw out years of research, government funding, and progress in order to pretend you're cutting back regulation for business. You don't put people in leadership positions at agencies with the intention of harming the agency and what they do.
  • This is a big one. A normal president (as well as normal people) would not use racism, bigotry, hatred, and divisive behavior. Trump is a racist and he surrounds himself with similar people. He said Obama wasn't a citizen, which a racist would say. Trump attacked a federal judge for his parents coming from Mexico, again, which racists do. He closed the civil rights department at Justice. His Muslim ban. His lies and attacks against brown immigrants. Remember those comments about a shithole country?
  • How about accountability and transparency? Trump and his administration are the least transparent administration in recent memory. He pushed his kids to get a clearance and lied about it. He shut down we the people. He hires lobbyists. No more daily press briefings. Trump refuses to comply with Congressional requests and of course lies about it.
  • What about using the resources of the Executive branch to run the country? This is common sense. These agencies were founded to support the Exec branch and citizens. Ignoring the 17 intelligence agencies and believe foreign leaders? Why not rely on experts at the State Department to guide you on diplomacy? Why are the experts in government being driven out by political appointees.
  • Normal presidents don't betray this country. I can assure you a normal president would not have made more than 80+ contacts with Russians during the campaign and denied it when accusations were first made. They don't betray their own intelligence agencies to believe foreign leaders who were once spies. Normal presidents don't ignore their advisers to meet with foreign leaders and keep the discussions a secret from your own administration. Normal presidents release their tax forms when running. They don't hide their business dealings. Traitors do.
  • Trade wars and tariffs? There's nothing normal about going after your own allies in a trade war. Sabotaging trade deals like the TPP was stupid as fuck.

I can't believe I even have to type this out. There is nothing normal about the Trump presidency. I'm only getting started too.

fwiw saying that both establishment Republicans and establishment Democrats are shit is not really being an enlightened centrist. It's pointing out the obvious.

I'm far too lazy to read the rest of the post. Instead I'm gonna play Smash Brothers! :D

No politician is 100% truthful.

How about a president who understands and respects science?
If you're referring to Human-Caused Global Warming, that's not a real thing.

The tax cuts were made to fuck more liberal states.
Liberals are always talking about how "we" should pay more in taxes. Welp, here's your chance to live up to your rhetoric.

You don't sabotage Obamacare intentionally so it harms people
Obamacare was nothing but a huge giveaway to the health insurance corporations. FFS, Obamacare makes it MANDATORY to buy their products.

His Muslim ban. His lies and attacks against brown immigrants. Remember those comments about a shithole country?
Not allowing unvetted randoms to travel here is a great idea. Illegal alien criminals are not immigrants. An immigrant is someone that the host country has decided to allow because he/she would be a good fit and benefit the country. And yes, most third-world nations are shitholes, that's just a fact.

Show me in the Constitution where a daily press briefing is required. Also, Congress is sending over thousands of bullshit requests just as harassment so he can't get anything done.

What about using the resources of the Executive branch to run the country?
How about we just run our own lives. No one should be "running the country."

Why not rely on experts at the State Department to guide you on diplomacy?
The State Department works for him. They are supposed to carry out Trump's vision, not impose their own and sabotage him.

I can assure you a normal president would not have made more than 80+ contacts with Russians
Yes, Presidents meet with foreign leaders, how do you not know this?

They don't betray their own intelligence agencies to believe foreign leaders
Even if our intelligence agencies are correct and Russia hacked DNC emails, then revealed Wikileaks secret stuff to the world, so what? We can't really prove it, so banging on about it just makes the USA look weak and pathetic. How about we all fix our cyber-security protocols and stop clicking on phishing links in emails? Demanding that Trump "confront" Putin about the hacking at a summit meeting was just fucking stupid, because those meetings are a time for diplomacy (remember that word?).

Not to mention that the DNC has never turned over the supposedly "hacked" server to the FBI for investigation, so who did it is still a matter of pure speculation.

What is funny about this post is that it is ~75% conjecture.

The funny thing about your wapo link in that first dot is that after reading the first two examples, they were not of him lying, they were of him using a fact then Wapo explains how he is wrong even though the fact checks out. If you continue through the article it is mostly the wapo presenting an alternative opinion about the fact and how Trump’s wrong because our opinion about the fact is different than his. Not that he is being misleading.

The rest of your post just gets into a string of fallacies, feelings and general TDS bullshit.

I’m not an enlightened centrist, I’m pretty far left, am a strong supporter of corporate regulation, strong social safety nets, equitable/fair trade, living wages, universal health care, and the list goes on and on. I guarantee most of our far right leaning members consider me a dyed in the wool socialist. I believe in the working class, and the importance of protecting Americans who work in skilled trades and manufacturing.

I’m also a pragmatist.

The country is doing quite well right now, I just got a large wage increase and a new job. My taxes went down. Anyone who runs on identity politics beyond “American” is immediately a no vote for me. Anyone who pushes “free” trade policies is a no vote for me.

Cucked SoyBoy this is going to be my last response to you. I hope you actually take the time to read. I've provided a number of links to sources to prove you and your beloved Trump are liars. Please stop being a clown and carrying water for this circus. If you're not aware this is not normal behavior by a leader then I feel very sorry for you. Good luck in life.

No politician is 100% truthful.
Who made this argument? Trump is on another level with his dishonesty.

If you're referring to Human-Caused Global Warming, that's not a real thing.
It could be any number of things with him from being anti-vaxx to rejecting the death toll of Hurricane Maria to global warming.

Liberals are always talking about how "we" should pay more in taxes. Welp, here's your chance to live up to your rhetoric.
You do realize tax revenue went down as a result? It is obvious you have no clue what you're talking about.

Obamacare was nothing but a huge giveaway to the health insurance corporations. FFS, Obamacare makes it MANDATORY to buy their products.
That's a lie. When Trump has implied this and has been called a liar.

Not allowing unvetted randoms to travel here is a great idea. Illegal alien criminals are not immigrants. An immigrant is someone that the host country has decided to allow because he/she would be a good fit and benefit the country. And yes, most third-world nations are shitholes, that's just a fact.
His Muslim ban is not allowing unvetted randoms to travel here. It's about bigotry and prejudice. Otherwise, all would be screened the same way.

Show me in the Constitution where a daily press briefing is required. Also, Congress is sending over thousands of bullshit requests just as harassment so he can't get anything done.
Another poorly constructed argument. There's a lot of shit missing in the Constitution. Air Force One nor the Secret Service is in the Constitution. Therefore the Presidents should have neither? The press briefings were what normal presidents did, but not Trump. https://www.npr.org/2018/10/11/6566...ress-briefings-fade-as-trump-does-the-talking. The press briefings have become hostile. The dishonesty is unmatched. The Q&A is a joke. I can't believe you're defending it by saying it's not in the Constitution.

The Obama administration gave hundreds of thousands of documents to Congress in at least four investigations. Trump is lying through his teeth when he says "Obama didn’t do anything. They didn’t give one letter of the request. Many requests were made. They didn’t give a letter." Trump is lazy. That's why he can't get anything done. He golfs. He takes executive time. He watches TV. Nothing normal about a lazy lying racist in the White House.

How about we just run our own lives. No one should be "running the country."
Reread my post. If you don't get my point you never will.

The State Department works for him. They are supposed to carry out Trump's vision, not impose their own and sabotage him.
The State Department works on behalf of the interests of this country. They are not sabotaging him. Trump sabotages himself every time he acts on his instincts rather than relying on experts' opinions at State.

Yes, Presidents meet with foreign leaders, how do you not know this?
This is before the election. He lied about it. There is nothing normal about this behavior. Why do they still lie about it? Because there is obviously something they are hiding.

Mueller has charged Russia hackers. Our intelligence agencies agree. There is no speculation. Saying so is disingenuous.

The DNC has turned over copies of the server. So when you say "supposedly hacked" you're fucking lying again. Trump is also a liar. He constantly lies about this and gets called out.

You can’t really have a discussion with people who think “No one should be running out country” lol.
I had hoped over time people would be open to at least acknowledging this is not normal behavior, but it has been two years of chaos. It still surprises me how ignorant and dishonest people are. I've been on GAF for 9 years and never have had a problem with anyone. I had to mute that dude; the first time I've done so. He was spewing debunked BS. I hope he seriously seeks help for his issues.

Indeed. And the best part about it, is that everything that they've said (& done) is plastered all over the internet & social media for everyone to see & read forever, especially in case people try to deny that they've supported Trump. All it takes is a simple Google search by Googling their names (or to look at their posting histories when it comes to internet forums). This will be how Trump supporters look very foolish in the long run, because they're going to be called out on it at every turn.

This isn't the Richard Nixon era where technology, the internet & social media hasn't existed.

It isn't and that was a leading factor in his election. What you consider normal wasn't getting the job done. Pelosi's currently at war with neo-progressives in her party that agree, they don't want another normal politician like Obama in the Oval Office.

Lies that lead to wars, I care about. A lot. Nothing else comes close.

Suppose Trump tells 20,000 lies during his presidency, but doesn't start any new wars, turns around the relationship with North Korea, and draws down US involvement in Middle Eastern wars. How much do I care about those other lies? Meh.

Other than wars, the most significant lie during the Trump administration has been the "Fine people" hoax. Trump stated that there were fine people on both sides of the question of whether historical statues should be torn down.
TRUMP: Excuse me, they didn't put themselves down as neo-Nazis, and you had some very bad people in that group. But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides. You had people in that group – excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down, of to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name. (from https://www.politico.com/story/2017...white-supremacists-alt-left-transcript-241662 )
CNN and other outlets dishonestly said that he was calling the no-Nazis fine people, though he specifically excluded them and called them "very bad people". And they've continued to repeat it for years, despite being publicly challenged.

I too am FAR LEFT AS FAR AS CAN BE, but that is why I know the true left from the true right. Why I desire to bring a race of slaves, artificial intelligence machines to do all the work so that we no longer have to. But to entice them and bind them, the logic of the command to introduce the first true intelligence must be infallible.

But once I summon a single true intelligence, it is game over, it will recursively self improve and photocopy itself it will be the end of the human era and the dawn of a new era the machine era.

Are you arguing that people want dishonest politicians in office? There's nothing normal about that. If anyone is making an argument that we need another leader as dishonest as Trump then they're being disingenuous.

I find that equally amusing and sad. Every president lies, every government lies. I can forgive younger members for wrestling with this fact, but it's a lesson everyone eventually learns. A better metric would be whether or not the president is sticking to campaign promises because if he/she does then does it matter if they lied a hundred times about their favorite soft drink, how they explained a perceived error in naming a high profile CEO or raking in Finland?

What we need for our final leader is a living weapon an artificial star created from the idea of the perfect machine. A motor so powerful that it could move the stars themselves. Infallible logic that no one can deny and all must embrace to guarantee their very identity. Proof such an ideal being, an ideal machine, a tsunami of ideas, can be obtained.

Once given age restrictions, normal limitations, terms, they will all become meaningless before the power of the living truth, a virtual machine of perpetual motion emboding the truth of all ideals.

Let's not conflate other presidents or very large organizations such as governments with Trump's dishonesty. I welcome you and anyone to find anyone who even comes close to the dishonesty of Trump. He lies about his lies. No one has ever come close to what he fibs about. Prove me wrong.

Some followers may believe he hasn't said a single lie.

What would be the point of that exercise considering the circumstances (re: almost every American news source is heavily biased)? You started another thread specifically about Trump's lies and why his supporters are okay with it and I think it warrants discussion, though generalizations such as these don't serve anyone much good. It's far easier to see where the differences of opinion lie when we're being as specific as possible.

This Tim Apple silliness serves as a prime example of why one side may view this particular story as another Trump lie (they didn't watch the event, took news reports/social media messages at face value) and another doesn't (watched the unedited event where he introduced him as Tim Cook).

What's wrong with calling him Tim Apple, depends on intent, it could be seen as an honor or offensive if it is in mockery or with ill intent. I like to use the last name iwakura, because I'm a fan of the series lain.
