Saur just uploaded part 2 of the system breakdown: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSAbLRnGiWg

The Wonderful 101 is awesome and all, but Platinum games does a shit job at explaining their own combat mechanics.

I'm approximately at 75% (Normal difficulty, mostly silver/bronze/consolidation) and I had no idea many of those features even existed. They're not in the menu, unlike the Unite-Morphs, which all came with a tutorial.

I'm at work right now, but when I get back home I'm going to practice some of that stuff. I don't want to go into the endgame unprepared :)

Yes, these 2 Saur videos are better than any manual or ingame tutorial. The 2nd one was a revelation for me, I missed 3 major things. And to think these only cover the basics!

Platinum should update the game with such videos included, or pay a tribute/link to these:

Saur System breakdown 001
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdHbPXNJvVE

Saur System breakdown 002
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSAbLRnGiWg

Can't wait for the next ones - the 003 will cover Ukemi.

Can't decide if I want to do Hard mode for a 2nd playthrough, or perhaps another Normal runthrough to improve my poor ranks/look for hidden shit

I'm going for completions of all difficulties above normal before I start refining ranks. Same as Bayo

That way you have all the stages unlocked and can play them in any order at your leisure, and I think you only need a completion of 101% for Bayo, and can get the all Platinum rank requirement on a lower difficulty. I want to unlock all the characters before going for 101% Pure Platinum as well

Also if it's like Bayo, certain collectibles will only be available in certain difficulty levels like the crows(probably the Platinum coins) so I'd do my scavenger hunt all at once instead of after every new difficulty level completion.

Go hard. Remixed encounters will help keep the game fresh, and carrying across all your heroes/upgrades ensures it's not an absurd difficulty spike.

Yeah. A lot of stuff is never explained at all to the point that it feels lazy. I understand that they want people to figure the mecanics, but to go all the way it's too much.

Anyway, i started the game on hard and the unite bomb is still pretty much broken, but the game is much less lenient if you want high scores. The time required sometimes is crazy and i can't even imagine how to make some sections in less time.

OMG! Just saw that little opening cutscene in the middle part of Operation 6. If that's a foreshadowing of things to come, then Oh, shiiiii....!!!

BTW I'm really low on cash. At this point I still can't buy any larger upgrade (500000). Am I doing anything wrong?

Use the credit card, the last item in mixing menu.

Collect more O-parts. Or mix yourself a creditcard.

I think I need some tips because the amount of damage I take feels wrong. There are some attacks I can't parry/dodge one example is (chapter 4)

Vorrken. What am I supposed to do if he uses the whip or the claws? Praying to be far away? Does ukemi count as a saving for the score?

I use Unite spring. Not sure about Ukemi, but apparently if you get hit and recover it wont count as a hit on your final score.

Me too, but it doesn't work. Maybe I press Zr too many times and transform into Unite ball?

I just keep using it, but yes. Maybe you are using Unite ball in the process. The only bad thing about keep using Unite spring in this stances is that it depletes your gauge quite quickly, and it makes it harder to attack with powerful attacks or multi unite morphs.

Isn't this how most action games are?

If you start a normal NG+, will all characters transfer?

Holy balls. The second Saur system breakdown video is yet another revelation for me.

as opposed to?

you take everything with you into NG+. is that what you're asking? or is that "all" part important?

Yeah, so you start with all characters/morphs?

SO, I am not an idiot for thinking that since enemies switch colors that if I attack them with the corresponding color it does more damage, right?

Cause I am pretty sure that if a giant robot is red and I use unite hand it does more damage and when he switches to blue then unite sword does more.

Doesn't Red just mean they're enraged?

So their attacks become unblockable and they can't be launched or stunned

That's not what I mean. Enemies have colors on them. Like the big robots have red/green/blue/pink lines running through them or the artillery buggies have a different color "weakspot" underneath them when you knock them over. These colors also change during fights.

As far as I can tell, that is their current weakness and if you use the proper attack against them,it does bonus damage.

It's just their health. As you do damage, the colors change to show you're getting their health down. Just think about how the little weak enemies go from blue to green to red as you attack them.

Unless you're talking about some special enemy from a later Operation I don't know about.

I am talking about all enemies, even bosses. Are you SURE it is their health?
Then why do some robots start green and others red and others blue?
Why does blue sometimes come before red and sometimes green before blue?

edit: i'll check this out for real in the game after work, it could totally be their health

Can you watch youtube while at work? Wonderful Mission Easy-B: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwkqFBy2Xzs

Watching that, I see what you mean electric lines covering the tanks and bipedals, but I'm also sure it's health. Unless it's an actual animal, like the scorpions. Heck, even with enemies carrying giant swords, the sword will change from blue, to green, to red to show it's strength before breaking.

I see Saur manages to run with the sword to collect coins, but how does he do that? Pressing Y cancels my morph.

I guess it is health then. I just thought it was weird that it corresponds to the colors of your attacks!

He explains it in the video. Press Y first to activate the dash animation (the rainbow wave) and then extend the Wonder Liner.

Watching another video, I noticed now that even that disc enemy you fight at the beginning of Operation 2-C follows the same pattern. I never noticed the tank lines until you mentioned it, so I'm starting to wonder how other enemies show it now.

Thanks I watched the video muted at work, I'll try that :)

It's a pure Nintendo way of thinking that doesn't work in this game :p

It just hit me!

Wonder Yellow is russian/soviet.
His attack is a hammer.
You need to draw a sickle - style pattern to produce it.

....:-o!!!!!

Not sure that was intentional, but it could be.

The real shape is.a line and then a circle, which looks like a hammer.

It just registers a half circle like every other circle motion in the game

Also when I understood I should have recruited enemies at operation 7 start, I just stopped, the cringeworthy-ness potential was too high.

From what little I've seen, it's Blue > Red > Green > other guys > boring honorable Japanese stereotype man >>> Pink

Pink is loud, obnoxious, shrill, and shallow. Just all the worst Japanese heroine traits rolled into one little insufferable ball of terrible.

"VORKEN! OH VORRRRRKIIIIIIE"
"I AM WONDER-PINK, BUT YOU CAN CALL ME PIIIIIIIIINK!"

Shut.

the fuck.

up.

She comes from that Kamiya school of writing for Sexy Silvia in Viewtiful Joe 2, who seem to mostly exist to make Joe look dumb, or get angry at Joe for being dumb, and just generally being an annoying addition to the game.

Except sub in Joe for Green
