The worst Mint Julep

Status
Not open for further replies.
So I watched this video where a woman named JaNee Nisonger teaches the audience how to make a Mint Julep. And my fucking god it is the worst Mint Julep I've ever seen. I felt the need to share this with others.

Spectacular things:

1. The amount of mint. Hooooooolllly fuck.

2. 2 ounces. 2 ounces. 2 ounces. 2 ounces.

3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWeVRxR1qek (Old fashioned vid. 3oz = 12 oz. Dem pours. Dat mixing) -thanks berzeli

4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUEXmDRqgg8 (whipping cream is milk, vanilla = lemon) -thanks berzeli

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
9 likes and 167 dislikes. Bad cocktail making or Ghostbusters levels of mint-sogyny? You be the judge.

This is what I would expect if I ordered one at a college bar. A confused look. A quick Google search. And then a glass full of mint with a splash of bourbon.

I'm going to throw in the old-fashioned one I found for the sake of completion:

She pours cocktails for taking the pain away. Also, Jon Taffer would flip his shit with those over pours.

WTF?

Jesus on those pours. Why not just add ice and a mint leaf to the bottle at that point. You know what... I want her to be my bartender.

I feel like its probably a mix. No pun intended.

As a former bartender, those ratios are fucking offensive haha. How do you get through life as a bartender thinking that is ok? How do you get to a point that not only do you think that is ok but worthy of sharing with the world??

That Mint Julep would taste like shit and that Old Fashioned isnt too far off. And 3oz she claimed in that old fashioned? I would hate to be the owner of the bar she worked at, she would make that Bar Rescue guy have an aneurysm.

I think she was employed by whatever video site that is. They probably just didn't care.

But yeah those ratios are crazy. A salad's worth of mint leaf. "2 ounce" pour.

lol.

Berzeli also has some nice gifs.

Currently watching the Old-Fashioned vid. Girls measuring skills is on point.

This is my jam.

lol when she is pouring in the bitters nothing comes out of the bottle.

This is the best.

"This is a pretty strong drink". I'll say.

Nifty AND saffron-colored!
This is some kind of torture porn isn't it. When she said "be careful not to get too rough" I though "oh good, at least she's gonna tell us not to crush the mint". Nope. Don't break the glass was the lesson there.

When she tries to mix it by pouring it from glass to glass. LOL.

That Old Fashioned vid.

I dont know much about drinks. Does crushing the mint make it bitter as fuck or something?

No muddler, she also uses a glass to scoop the ice, and she's going to bankrupt the bar she works for by giving away all that liquor... but hey, she'll still rake in a ton of tips

She has replaced auntie Sandy for me.
Well not really;

(still love you auntie)

btw this is probably the best video, mistaking whipping cream for milk, saying vanilla vodka whilst pointing to what clearly is lemon vodka and like no stirring or anything. I'm so disappointed she never tries the drinks though (her liver is probably glad though).

Yeah man. It's not 100% incorrect to crush it if you like it that way (that's the good thing about cocktails, do what you like) but generally speaking it's not what you want at all, as it just makes it bitter without any extra flavor. It might make it taste kinda grassy even.

lol "milk"

It clearly say heavy whipping cream. She has to be doing this on purpose.

Hahaha this is really something. Thx for sharing, OP. I woke up my wife with my laughter.

At the beginning of my liquor career, we went to a bar where a grumpy drug addict did the cocktails in a similar way. They tasted shitty because of the overdose of spirits, but man, we got a lot of bang for our bucks.

Knew exactly who it was going to be upon entering the thread.

The best part of the Old Fashion video is when she starts "mixing" it at the end and she spills almost a quarter of the drink.

What's wrong with a glass to scoop ice btw? Too much ice?

From a regulation standpoint it's typically a major health code violation.

I won't lie, in my younger days at a high volume bar where we had some serious tough glassware I am guilty of doing it a few times to cut down steps, but it risks glass chipping into the ice.

Frankly ice is typically the last ingredient I add in with typical one or two mixer drinks. It's just easier to measure and saves a step of mixing.

I think... I think she was doing that as a favor to your liver.
