Theory on why Nintendo never released Metroid Prime Trilogy on Switch

There's no way in a million years they'd release individual Metroid Prime games at full price. Nobody would buy them.

People are willing to buy old Zelda games at full price because that series is much, much more popular.

This headline seems to be jinxing things and tempting fate so that the trilogy does actually fail to materialise.

My take is that they want to release it not too long before Metroid Prime 4 and use the Trilogy to advertise the new game..

Since MP4 is delayed then so is the Trilogy....

I could be wrong though...

Yes. It's just the Wii version running through backwards compatibility.

That's probably why it was cheap.
But increasing the resolution to 1080p...now that's a complex engineering challenge that's equally or more demanding than making a new game. So the $60 price tag each is totally justified.
I’ve got the games just not the time to play them. Was considering how it might go if I broke down and bout eshop games.

Doesn't the game hold your hand and tell you were to go next? It's says there is activity in "area". Just explore area. idk. Also auto aim... Maybe I can disable it...
Metroid is not about shooting stuff. It is an exploration game, shooting is secondary. Enemies are most of the time obstacles. It is meant to be played with the lock-on feature.

You don't get this game at all. You will get lost. You can disable the hints if you find them too helpful.

Here’s my thoughts, they don’t care for the game. It’s not marketable like Zelda or Mario or anything else come out with currently.

My theory of why this never happened is simple.

They would want to release them separately for the Switch for 60 bucks each and slap a HD label on each but know that it would cause fan backlash of the highest order if they did.

However

If they combined them together into a 60 dollar HD trilogy package then it would dilute the Wii and WiiU HD remasters they keep selling separately for 60 dollars.

For instance how can you justify a potential Metroid Prime Trilogy which consists of 2 GameCube games and 1 Wii game upgraded to HD with updated controls when they plan on releasing Skyward Sword in HD... 1 Wii game on its own.

The Metroid Prime Trilogy was the last great deal Nintendo gave us and I'd say they're kicking themselves to this day that they did it.

I think a Prime Trilogy will never come out for the Switch , at least not in the form that we think it will.
Ur looking into this way too much. Its very simple....
They are waiting until they announce a release date for metroid prime 4 and id say in the run up to release, maybe about a year before, they will release the metroid prime trilogy at a whopping 720p.

I never said Metroid (as a series) is about shooting stuff. This is about Prime 1. In fact I already mentioned that you explore first before mentioning the auto aim. Don't take my words and flip them. The game holds your hand for you by default and there is nothing to explore for other than minor upgrades ex health/missile, etc capacity and scanning objects. That's fine and dandy but there is still no real challenge in this game. I'm near the end of the game. btw.

Nintendo is coasting right now. They know they can really put out nothing and they'll still sell tons of systems for quite awhile. It's what I hate about them when they start doing well. Also since when would Nintendo care about backlash? Even if they put each one out for $60 their fans would buy them anyway because they're suckers like that. Nintendo's been putting out overpriced, lazy ports for a long time now. It wouldn't be any different if they did it for Metroid too

Really? Pikmin 3 just sold like 2 million copies on Switch at $60. Trust me people will buy them and Nintendo knows it

A Wii U game which, like most Wii U games, never got its dues. For a lot of folks, that's a brand new game (and it still looks good).

They won't be able to sell a Metroid game from the Gamecube era at full price unless it has a significant visual upgrade, or significant additional content.

My point was that it's Pikmin which is a series that has never sold that well. Metroid is a lot more popular. If they wanted to put them out standalone people will eat it up because that's the hardcore Nintendo player base for you.

It would be a valid point if they re-released Pikmin 1 to strong sales. But there are at least reasons why Pikmin 3 is seeing a full price release, which I outlined above.

If they wanted to put them out standalone people will eat it up because that's the hardcore Nintendo player base for you.
They would sell, but not enough to be worth it. The 'hardcore Nintendo fans buy anything' mantra has truth to it, but as we saw with Wii U, it only goes so far, and it wouldn't go far at all with an old ass Metroid game.

I mean they released it as a trilogy once, they'll almost certainly do it again. To my knowledge they've never released Zelda games packaged together outside of that one freebie disc of the N64 games and the first two NES games with Wind Waker. Skyward Sword being re-released at full price isn't grounds for pre-emptive cynicism regarding Metroid's future. Skyward Sword is simply going to be a much, much more attractive proposition for most people than Metroid Prime 1, 2 or 3 is, so they can easily get away with the price.

Na, to screw our mind up, watch them release a HD version of Just Metroid Prime 3 Corruption with added regular control like they just did with SS. Im even in to take bets it will happen. 😁

Nintendo doesn't handle their own franchises with Premium gloves. They are more like Disney, taking something out of the vault and letting you try it. It's why I'm buying fewer of their first part stuff, and why I'm typically waiting a few months/years before finally buying their games. The good ones prove their quality over time, but I mean... who is glad they bought 1-2-Switch?

I like when games get the M2 treatment or the Bluepoint treatment. Those companies know how to handle old games with respect.
My friend bought 1-2 switch. I bet he wishes he could do a 1-2 switch and shove it to someone else and get a mario game.

What are you ? 6 years old ?

Next time, rather than complaining about an optional feature you don't like, disable it. This will probably help us to take you seriously.
Why would I disable something part the game that's on by DEFAULT? Why would I handicap myself? The game lacks any real challenge other than you suggesting to disable features to create some false challenge. It may have good entertainment value but I'm not feeling the gameplay in this game.
Just stop, you talk shit.
Damn. Are your tendies too hot or something?

Playing Metroid Prime right now and it's awful... I hope 2 and 3 are not like this.

I wasn’t a big fan of it but it was a good game, there was some big issues for me. Barely any story and not being able to strafe and lockdown etc or something like that turned me off About the controls.

Atmosphere was great, but alot was missing compared to the Snes Metroid Prime

They will probably do when they actually know when MP4 is coming. Nintendo fed us lies to get us excited, same with SMT5

I would imagine the collection will release once we are closer to a Metroid Prime 4 release. Why release the collection so early, when you could release it closer to your brand new game to help generate buzz and preorders?

The level design is nice as well. I do think it has a great overworld. I was expecting more SNES like Metroid game but I know something like that is difficult to translate to a 3D environment.

Samus is the only one whom can save Nintendo from consuming itself like a Black Hole, into oblivion.

People are willing to buy the games. The hype for any news, a trailer, anything, for Metroid, BotW 2 would he insane. Zelda Anniversary, Metroid Anniversary, show something.
That's not even going into their really ignored lPs like Golden Sun Advance Wars/Battalion Wars/F-Zero/Mother.

So many amazing IPs sitting in a vault, rotting away.

Yet Nintendo can only say-
look bay GIF
Oh they did my baby bad

Eh, they're just waiting for Prime 4 to be closer to release, then they'll drop Prime Trilogy HD as a hype builder.

(please be true)

Why would I play in Hard if I find a game too easy, as hard is not the default option ? I have to go in a menu and change a setting ! That's not how it is meant to be played ! Options are useless and developers should remove them all !

Sorry but your argument is ridiculous.

Its obvious to me Nintendo is spreading out and milking their portfolio .. for example:

This year its still the Mario anniversary,

Starting june/juli.. the year of Zelda will start. Next to skyward sworld, we will probably see a Zelda collection fast release, like we dit with mario last year, maybe a BOTW sequal before March/April 2022.

So what year will be 2022 be? Its the year of Metroid.. so after the BOTW sequal we will see some metroid games...

You theory can easily be debunked

Here is what is actually happening ....

Dev A - Lets get approval from Nintendo and port Metroid 1 2 and 3 to full HD 1080p Switch ... wow wow wow

Dev B - Go play 1 and 2 on your GayCube

repeat
Oh to be 12 again...

Here let me hold your hand like the game does. Where is hard mode? You cannot do hard mode until you beat the game on normal. You want me to play with one hand as well to make it hard? You want me to play as my health slowLY depletes? That's your logic. Artificial difficulty. YES the devs should have added more challenge in the first run of the game. That's how you make a decent game, nerdboi, by balancing the game around the challenge which the game doesn't have in its FIRST RUN. Take your Nostolgia glasses off.

One thing that people aren’t considering is... the ports may have just struggled to run on a switch? And not necessarily frame rate. Maybe they just played like shit?

The last Metroid (insert *is in captivity* joke) game was unveiled at E3 in June 2017 for to be released 3 months later.
It's hard to guess if/when a collection of past games will be released when it depends on when the newer games come out.

Oh they most certainly did. I'm not sure GS4 can ever happen with how GSDD went.
I have already given up hope for a GS4.
I just want a GS1+2 remake.
Maybe with Octopath Traveller like Overworld sprites and battle graphics like Fire Emblem Three Houses, but true to the original art direction.

I'm fairly certain they are just waiting until closer to the release of Metroid Prime 4. Their plans for the trilogy changed after the development of 4 got rebooted.

Metroid Prime 1 and 2 are easy enough

Sadly 3 needs the Skyward Sword treatment to implement button controls

I think it’ll happen but projects like that are probably only just now profitable due to the Switch’s massive install base and Metroid isn’t a franchise with appeal beyond the core gamer.

Are you suggesting the Switch isn't powerful enough to run GameCube and Wii games?
Nope. Just saying something unforeseen might be causing problems.

I worked on a multi platform game a couple of years ago. PS4 and XB1 were fine. Switch had this crazy crash bug that we just couldn’t find. Even Nintendo test dept couldn’t help us find it.
We think the game just crashed on certain switches.

if they found a similar issue. Might be the reason.
Complete conjecture on my part of course. But I can’t figure any other reason why any company would have a fully working trilogy of a classic series and not release it.

greed doesn’t make sense. Because the game would be a #1 hit upon release!
