Thoughts on Link in Breath of the Wild being right-handed?

This is something I've wanted to see discussed since E3. It probably was in the main thread but that was just so huge to go through.

We've known since E3 2014 that he was right-handed:

Link in Twilight Princess Wii and Skyward Sword was right-handed because of motion controls as most people areally right-handed. Now it just seems adult Link is right-handed.

Person I like that Skyward Sword Link is no longer the only right-handed Link. I remember a lot of people felt Link should always be left-handed.

I have no feeling one way or the other.

Not a big deal for me. I know he's been left-handed for most of the series until Skyward Sword, but hey, maybe there's a story reason.

I've made my peace with it. That ship sailed a long time ago.

I can understand people not wanting Link to be a girl.

But this is ridiculous and irrelevant for the character really...

Doesn't concern me much. It's never been a big thing for me anyway; if no one had pointed it out to me I probably wouldn't have even noticed the difference. I do imagine that they'll most likely keep it going forward in case motion controls are ever again an option.

I don't mind at all.
They could make him left handed in hero mode or master quest, that'd be fun but would ask for more animation work too.

1) We don't know what the NX is so maybe there's a reason for it.

2) It really doesn't matter to the character, story, or series in general.

Every Link is a different version to begin with, it seems silly that every version needs to be left-handed.

It really makes no difference to me. It was cool that there was an iconic video game character that was intentionally made left-handed, but it's also not the same Link in every Zelda anyway so there's no big deal in changing it. I there's no one out there that's botheres by this as it's very trivial.

The fact that it doesn't make sense of him to be right-handed and that he's waking up from a weird hibernating state instead of being a 'regular Link' makes me believe he's the one from Skyward Sword coming back after centuries of sleep. That'd be cool.

Mildly bums me out since I've always liked that I shared that trait with the protagonist from my favorite childhood series.

Honestly? I couldn't care less.

It has no impact on the story, gameplay or anything. It doesn't change or negate anything about the past games, either.

Link could have mechanical arms that transform into the Master Sword for all I care.

Who cares? It's sad that people really worry about this and go as far as saying the gamecube version of Twilight Princess is the canon version because he is left-handed lol.

Thoughts on a protagonists dominant hand...I have none. Because I don't care and it doesn't matter.

As a Lefty, I feel offended and take it VERY personally. The representation of left-handed characters in videogames is already very rare, and now we lost another one...

Do right-handed persons really feel that insecure when controlling a character that swings his sword with the other hand ?

I don't care.

i'm right-handed myself so i don't really care, but there are definitely some people who might feel like their left-handedness is an important part of their identity.

they'll always have nero and sephiroth even if nintendo has betrayed them for the sake of motion controls

I don't care which hand is holding a sword. The game looks great and is a day 1 purchase either way.

honestly, I'm figuring it's a flipped thing, where NX Link is Right and Wii U version is Left. Did they do that in Twilight Princess?

Its probably because they didn't want to flip the world for one version, and hadn't decided yet if they were going to include motion controls for the Wii U version so they made the safe decision.

It would matter if Link's handedness had ever played a part in the actual narrative of the game. As it stands, it seems like it was completely arbitrary that he was left-handed, although consistent. When changed in TP, it was done for obvious reasons, but again those weren't narrative reasons.

So yeah, even if you're a Zelda canonical purist, I still think this has to fall outside of the purview of what is "essential" to Zelda.

A very good point! The next Zelda following BotW could have a left-handed Link again anyway and we're back to the norm. This isn't something to get bent out of shape by.
