My $1 bid for Relic didn't last very long. :(

SEGA actually would be a good publisher to land Relic since they take strategy games seriously with the Total War series in a time when all strategy games' budgets are getting slashed. Rome II is supposed to be the most expensive CA game and the studio seems to be expanding, so Relic would fit right in since SEGA is willing to spend money on strategy games.

That's good news to me as a big RTS fan. Hell, I thought about making a Rome II info thread since there's a lot of info coming out on the forum and they just unveiled Macedon as the third faction, but I don't think the game or the genre has enough interest on here to warrant it. It's a shame since they're so damn good.

Rome II and COH 2 will consume me.

So they are selling the studios and IP separate? Like Koch Media can buy Volition and say Activision can buy the Saints Row IP.

Isn't Koch media a branch of the group that's desperately fighting against gay marriage. And also funding the Tea Party? Or is this different? I'd hate to support them in any way.
No. Koch Media's Koch (Franz Koch) is not one of the Koch brothers that you're thinking of. Completely different people who just so happen to have the same surname.

They can, but I imagine most people would want the package deal and be bidding on both.

It's not impossible we could end up in a split scenario though if someone has a spare team.

Oh ok so it's logically possible but you're right it makes more sense to take both.

In case anyone is interested:

The current high bid for Relic is...Sega.

The current high bid for Volition is...Koch Media.

More to come as I receive reports.

Super surprising given Sega financials but hell yeah! I hope they win, it was my favourite option.

Maybe their releases would be better if they had more talent to work on them. EA is pretty hands off now when it comes to acquired studios.

I'd rather not take my chances when SEGA's handling of their strategy business has been so much better. But I'm sure EA will find a way to ruin my day.

Homeworld sold to EA, Bioware reboots as TPS.

Sega has like four to five (or more) times as much cash on hand as Ubisoft.

They're really not in a bad place!
Really? I thought they were in a pretty bad spot about a decade ago.

I thought Sega was getting out of the AAA retail games business. Suddenly making Warhammer 40k games seems like a weird move.

Unless they're gonna put Relic to work on F2P and downloadable stuff, that is.
Erm what? The Total War series has done really well for them.

My mind is trying to comprehend how this is possible O__o

They're owned by Sammy who seem to be loaded, and although AAA has been a sector SEGA has faltered in their bet on CA and the Total War series has very much paid off for them. I'm very surprised to hear this but it does fit.

Deep Silver is a trash publisher. I can only imagine that if they scoop a quality studio like Volition and their IPs like Saints Row, Red Faction, and Summoner that bad things will happen to them.

Does anyone have that table showing the cash reserves of the various publishers? I'm pretty sure I saw Nirolak post it a little while back.

Why does Activision have no debt? With rates they way they are that seems silly. But they're the multi billion dollar corporation, and I'm not so who am I to tell them what to do.
