True but the origin of the word still remains regardless of how many people use it incorrectly. That's why etymology is such a good study.

You use words incorrectly all the time in that case.

Gay = joyous

Nice = ignorant

Husband = house owner

Bully = sweetheart

etc.

Okay - as hilarious and enlightening as it is to pin down exactly what "school" of thought the OP is coming from, linking to their social media pages is not cool.

It just seems to be a collection of youtube comments, nothing really social about it, other then Google forcing people to have this page.

Isn't etymology the study of a word's meaning and change? So shouldn't the word's meaning be included?
Relevancy matters a hell of a lot. This is 2014. Etymology is important where it concerns historical study. I'll be frank with you, the modern day world, these words you keep bringing up, and language in general, simply does not work the way you think it does or would like it to. Are you a time traveler from the 16th century? A lot of world seems new to you. But the fact is, when the United States was founded in 1776, it literally changed the world. It also had a huge impact on language, especially the evolution of English. As such, the United States is a country recognized by the entire world, and if you're a US citizen, you're an American and that is the proper modern day demonym our language ascribes meaning to for a person of or from the United States of America; again to reiterate, a country founded in 1776 that now has over 300 million citizens, or colloquially, over 300 million Americans.

And one last thing, research the origin of nigger and why Europeans started using it. "Negus" denotes a king. Naga, which nigger comes from, means snake. In the ancient world the snake was seen as a wise symbol, it was a symbol of knowledge and life so when you say nigga, actually naga you're empowering yourself so who the fuck cares if Europeans say nigga or nigger? Do the fucking research and fucking learn something.

When you look at the history of slavery by the account of Europeans, it does bot make fucking sense. How in the hell do you transport 100k plus people over the huge Atlantic ocean without the majority of them dying? What about the bodily waste of these 100k plus people on the boats? The Transatlantic slave trade is fucking myth made for you so called blacks to believe. The truth is your ancestors are the indigenous people of the Americas. When you know your Moorish history you understand that Obama actually isn't the the first so called black president, you understand the so call American flag isn't a flag but a banner. You understand that men that look like you ran this country and they went to war with Europe and your ancestors who were slaves were actually POWs. America is the Moroccan Empire and your masters know it, you just don't.
Good god, the crazy doesn't stop (until you reach the bottom).

Seriously. And English didn't arrive from the gods. It itself is derived from an older language which is derived from an even older language and so on until the first language(s). If he really wants to take his dumbass argument to its logical conclusion, every language except the very first language is wrong.

We should all just be grunting at each other, I suppose.

In fairness, the first 10 links I got when googling his user name were his various website profiles.

2 things.

A- who determines the original meaning? why does the original meaning matter anymore?

B- Can I get at least one paragraph summarizing your views on... well, whatever we're discussing?

Thanks dog

Learning etymology is more than just learning the origin of words, you can basically increase your vocabulary by learning etymology. Sta, Sti and Sist all mean stand and they generate many words like station, staff, and staple. Constitution, institution, substitution. Consist, insist, resist.

So if what we call African Americans are actually the indigenous population of the Americas, what are the now falsely named Native Americans?

What do you think of Elijah Muhammed?

Wait, OP is a trans-atlantic slave trade denier?
You mean those harrowing accounts of people being forced to endure a month or more of cramped, subhuman conditions on boat trips to America--with great numbers dying as they succumbed to starvation, disease, or dehydration in the dark--were not just elaborate works of fan fiction? Welp.

That's not...

So if what we call African Americans are actually the indigenous population of the Americas, what are the now falsely named Native Americans?

Indians. Christopher Columbus was right all along. TEACH THE CONTROVERSY.

In all seriousness, is this some derivation of the Mormon belief of Native Americans being ancestors of the Lamanites, just dialed up to eleven?

This literally wasn't an answer to anything he fucking asked.

A- who determines the original meaning?

Aliens.

The reason why slavery actually functioned in America was because the African slaves were shipped over here, turn apart from their family and society and made slaves. They were isolated and had no where to go. White people actually tried to enslave Native Americans, but it didn't work because Native Americans could simply escape back to Native American territory.

The sheer historical ignorance/distortion on display here is truly impressive

You are correct and etymology is a rewarding and enlightening field of study, but it has nothing to do with the topic at hand, which, I may remind you, you requested we stick to,

can someone sum up what OP was going on about this whole thread? i just came in, tried following the first few pages but only became more confused.
