Time to be an arrogant hipster, what things did you discover before it was cool?

Napster

watching downloaded TV

using internet on TV

Hyundai Veloster -- had it day one only to write it off a year later after a bad accident

Tribes 1

Magic The Gathering -- got in at the tail end of Legends

PVR -- day 1 when it released in Canada

Minidisc Player (okok this one never took wings but damn if it wasn't a hipster item to have)
I want to add "Tribes" in general. Seeing Ascend come a long made me want to vomit.

And to try not to repeat any other things...

EDM

Dubsteb before it was wubstep.

Wear "vintage" clothing.

I can't think of anything else right now... too early.

Death Grips
Me and Zach Hill go way back, playing a Boadrum together. He probably barely remembers me but I did get the inside scoop when death classic started circulating #swag

//more I was just following his stuff early on than any cool demos passing my way or anything hah

Converse Chuck Taylors

Back when I was a kid, it was about the only shoe I would wear. At that time, they were considered a "cheap" shoe, they usually ran about $20 over at Payless. Now I see them as high as $80!!!

REM. A friend in high school played me a home-made tape of their songs before Murmur was out. I guess he deserves the credit for discovery. I later saw them open for the Police and I seemed like the only person who knew who they were.

I was on YouTube before it got big.

I actually thought it was significantly inferior to other video sites I used because you couldn't download the video.

I was into edm/raves before it got popular at my high school, although the rave scene has now basically died in Texas.

Alot of bands... I remember when "Sex On Fire" by Kings Of Leon came out and everybody was singing along to the chorus and i was in full effect hipster-mode - i've listened to KOL since, what, 2004?

Downloading mp3's before Napster, when you had to use FTP.
Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen back when they were on the 11 o'clock show.

I remember listening to Fireflies by Owl City before it exploded. I thought the song was bad then and I still think it sucks today.

Hyundai Veloster -- had it day one only to write it off a year later after a bad accident

I have wanted one of these since it came out. Couldn't afford a new car payment, sadly. It is still one of my top picks for myself, since you get so much for your money technology wise. The Veloster has options that are standard or comes with one of the very modestly priced packages that other car manufacturers will charge 3-4000 for. Now I see them somewhat regularly out on the road.

Old school FTP sites where you had to upload in order to download.

Deadpool. I read all of his comics senior year of college, so 2004-2005 for me. He was included in Xmen Legends 2 later that year. When exactly did he get popular?

I'm gonna call bullshit. I've been hearing Chuck Norris jokes in real life looooooong before I ever saw one on the internet.

We made a fake hardcore band called "The Chuck Norris Experience." We had such hits as "Chuck is amazing," and "Total Gym. Total Annihilation."

In the middle of our set we had a Chuck Norris "poetry slam" that is basically exactly what the Chuck Norris meme was. This was circa Summer 2003. I swear.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia - Was there from the very first episode. I remember they used to have another show about people with eating disorders during the same block. Sunny survived and that shit didn't.
Wasn't it Starved or something? That show was ass.
Chiptunes, I heard a track on the Kaiju Big Battel DVD and found the artist through MySpace. Few years later I see Anamanaguchi on MTV.
The chiptune explosion has been weird. I never expected it.

Aha Shake Heartbreak was an amazing album. Well-deserved success.

Saltybet casino

it's still new'ish right?
I remember when Saltybet was actually an FGC thing (well, stream monsters mostly). Fucking sellout.
It was entertaining for a couple hours

I'm pretty sure Breaking Bad has been mega-popular since the first episode. Yeah I know it's at a whole other level now.

I'm mostly LTTP on things. I could claim all the stuff regarding PC games/music etc but it's not like I was first or anything. It just makes me feel old lol.

Monster Hunter
Nujabes
Odd Future, even if I'm not the biggest OF fan I found them early.
J cole
Danny Brown
Kendrick Lamar (K dot)
Trap EDM when nobody cared and was like "Is this dubstep*
Not gunna lie when people say they are big fans and say "my favorite song is Can't get enough (J cole) or Swimming Pools (Kendrick) I cringe.

Most of the things I like are rather unknown, maybe I'm a huge hipster D:

I can only think of Majoras Mask, I'm the biggest fan boy of the game, yet I remember actually having to defend it in forums, now is all the rage among them kids, because it's so "dark" and "edgy".

Rap music

I listened to rap in late 80s - early 90s when it was rarely heard on radio, much less music videos being played on MTV or the like.

I remember a UK show in the mid 90s on MTV called "The Lick" where some british guy had 1 hour a week to play some rnb and rap music, that blew peoples minds.

It blows my mind that Game of Thrones was around in, what, 1995?

Something like that. I started reading them in 2001 and begged all my friends to read them because the books were so awesome. Fast forward to when the show came out and I had a ton of friends talking about how awesome this new show was. It was so god damn tempting to tell them about the Red Wedding. Listening to their reactions was so incredibly satisfying.

Macklemore.

Started listening to the dude back in 2005 before he got big recently. Even saw him perform at a local rec center a couple years ago when he first started touring with Ryan Lewis.

Supreme.

Been wearing the brand back in 2007
still somewhat late imo
and people would constantly bug me about the style. Now it's everywhere and people think I'm copying Tyler the creator.

Miranda Kerr. I specifically remember pointing out that she was hot in one of her first ads in Australia, and a mate was like 'nah, man she's average at best.' A year later he was drooling over her.

Also, Gotye. He has more than one song too, btw.

MP3 Player. I owned the RIO PMP300 (and PMP500 after) that held like 10 songs at a time.

It was when I first started working and I remember almost all of my first check going to that device.

I also owned an iPod before anyone knew what it was really up here in Canada. When it was still firewire and had a scroll around buttons. I didn't own a Mac though, so it must have been just after iTunes came out with Windows.

The internet, from a SLIP account, using Mosaic to view four or five web pages. Who needs all this visual hoo-ha, I thought, when we have Archie, Veronica, Gopher, and Jughead!

I've read mirai nikki back in 2007 or 2008 and then when it finally got a anime and got super popular I felt super hipster about it.
