'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy' Trailer (Oldman, Firth, Hardy, Strong)

I saw this last night, and enjoyed it - I didn't think they fleshed a lot of the characters out amazingly well though, obviously due to the running time - perhaps annoyingly with the length of time spent on some scenes/transitions just designed to look pretty (which they were).

I would be very keen to revisit it on blu-ray and will be ordering the book/looking into the original bbc programmes and sequel.

Oldman and Cumberbatch (can't wait for Sherlock series 2) were brilliant, but Colin Firth seemed a bit under-used. Mark Strong - also brilliant, continues to grow massively in my opinion every time I see him.
 
Saw the film last Wednesday. Haven't read the book or watched the original BBC series but I felt I understood most of what went on. Feel it would still be worth a rewatch which for me is a rare thing.
 
Yes for fleshing out of characters, be sure to watch the BBC series. I personally think it edges out the book in terms of quality and impact. Now that you've got the story and setting established I think the series will be even more enjoyable.
 
Really enjoyed it. Got slightly confused with the plot just before the end, but clarified it fairly rapidly after the film. Shouldn't have gone to a late showing when so tired.

Also, absolutely fantastic final sequence.
 
Watched it last night. It was a very good movie with a bloody good casting to be had, but it kind of suffered for being a bit inconsistent. There at times when the pacing felt awful and there were places where the dialogue felt a bit off. But overall it was an amazing experience. I cannot stress the fact that the acting was damn good. Everyone in that movie should be nominated for Oscar for their performance, that is how I felt. The visuals were also terrific with some great lightining to be had and what not. I can see this movie being in my top 5 movie of the year list
 
God I fucking love the style they had back then. Why can't people dress like that nowadays instead of this skinny tie/jeans shit.

Oh yeah can't wait for the movie also, the cast had me sold. I didn't even read the plot until afterwards

Just saw an early press screening. Really solid movie, great portrait of paranoia. The scattered elements in the beginning come together in the end, so I'm interested in seeing it again to see if I'll like it more. Gorgeously shot, perfectly acted, but wish it felt a little more cohesive...especially when it comes to fleshing out the characters. The style is wonderful though and really looking forward to another watch.

I absolutely loved it, but I will agree that at times things do feel a little too disconnected. Thought Tom Hardy was superb in it, as were most of the actors.

ha, Christopher Nolan was at the LA premiere tonight. Must have been checking out his TDKR actors! We interviewed Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tomas Alfredson...will be posting those this week...and in theaters Friday!
 
It pains me that Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy isn't coming to my town anytime soon. The flick has been out in the UK since September, so why can't it get a wide release instead of a limited roll-out? I shall turn towards Moscow and shake my fist angrily at Karla!

After Christmas I'll be visiting friends who are a modest road trip away from one of the theaters rolling out TTSS, so hopefully I'll be able to catch it on the big screen before the end of the year. For anyone not in Los Angeles or NYC wondering when TTSS will be coming to their town, Focus Features has a website showing their glacial release schedule.

SIFF Cinema in Seattle is screening Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy on Sunday. Gary Oldman will be in attendance for an interview/Q&A after the film. Got tickets for my wife and I the other day.
 
So I totally thought this movie was opening in my city this weekend and it turned out it isn't. My question is, is there a good website that has release dates in advance for movies paying in certain cities?
 
Guess I'll catch this next weekend, as that's when it opens up in San Francisco. Otherwise I can wait until the 23rd and catch it in Berkeley.

My friend in Europe said it was fantastic, but pretty much thought that Hardy's hair was laughable. And from what I saw in the trailer, that was definitely something that caught my eye - and not in a good way.

Regardless, this movie I've been looking forward to for a while now.

Not a single website, but the distributors sites usually have all that info (ex. Focus Features, Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, etc.)
 
Kind of not surprised? It's got like every dope British actor in existence in it, I think that might have some what of a draw that the studio is underestimating greatly.
 
Saw it a second time. I still find the characters to be flat, but the specific performances are great if that makes any sense. With that said, almost everything falls perfectly into the place that I didn't get the first time. One of the best of the year.

My most anticipated movie this season, mainly due to dat cast. Can't wait for CT to get it.
 
Saw it yesterday. It was a sneak preview so I had no idea what movie it was going to be beforehand. Didn't read the novels or anything, so the story definately went over my head. I got the jist of it, but damn. Around ~12 people walked out during the first 30 minutes.

I think it's better to enjoy this movie if you know of the basic storyline from the beginning, and know which character is which and what's what. Would also help if you know spy terminology. If you go in completely cold you'll be disappointed.

Agree fully. I really liked it but I knew I would've loved it if:

1. The people behind me weren't laughing at serious moments and stopped talking like jackasses. Fucking assholes.

2. If I didn't go in blindly and had actually read a bit about the movie.

I am definitely going to watch it again to grasp the moments I missed due to the unfamiliarity with remembering the names in a movie with such a big cast.

Yeah, saw this last night. MI4 was good, dumb fun, but this was a REAL spy movie. I thought it was great, but you could definitely feel that it was a series/book that had to be compressed into a movie. Even still, they did a remarkable job with most of the characters and their motivations, though a few didn't really have much to do (poor Ciaran Hinds).

One criticism I've heard about this is that, while expertly crafted, it keeps you at a distance and makes it hard to care about the events you're watching. I'd strongly disagree with this, though I'd agree the final "reveal" isn't as much of a OMGWTF moment as it could (should?) be.

Oldman is a fucking national treasure at this point.
