Titanfall: 15 maps at launch (?), perk lists, game modes, Map Photos, ahoy!

It very well could. I think the campaign multiplayer might have more elements in each map that can affect the players during battle. It may even have more types of goals (escort this person, defend that position, etc.).
The campaign multiplayer is honestly the mode I'm most interested in this game to see what it's like.

Yeah... not really. This is actually a pretty thin amount of weapons, especially for a game like this, with limited customizations. It is really, really hard to justify $60 for this game for how little content is of known quantity thus far. They have the game slotted at the perfect time of the year where nothing else is available shooter wise, and they know it'll sell, so why put that effort in? Or why not put that effort in for the inevitable DLC cash grabs of packing in 1-new pilot weapon plus 2 new titan weapons!

I actually thought the beta weapons were it.

There doesn't have to be a ton of weapons, just enough to feel distinct... that said, with the way guns fire and how fast you die, I don't know how big of a difference guns will make, but the basic scaling between ARs, SMGs/Shotguns, and Snipers should be enough.

I used to love playing Chess until someone told me it only had 1 map. I said, "No, way! I figured this was the beta and more maps would come later...", but no. The guy said, "Nope, Chess was invented over 1,500 years ago and still there is only 1 map.".

Saw my friend playing and I said, "Don't you know Chess only has 1 map???". He said, "Well, I don't care if Chess does only have one map. I really like it.".

I told him he was an idiot. It can't be fun with only 1 map. Noob.

a. I don't have to buy another $60 game that is more fun than TF, I already have 3 or 4 installed. I don't have to buy $60 games at all.
b. People have already bought it for $40, if you're trying to say it'll never be cheaper you might want to think again.

It is very simple. More content means more blocks to play with. The more blocks you have to play with the longer you can play before getting bored. I'm not saying this is true for everybody and every game but it is certainly true in some cases. It is the main reason almost every new MMO is a flop. None of those companies are willing to put in the money to create enough content for them up front so you burn through most of the content in the first month, grow bored, go back to WoW or other games.

I am going to have to disagree with you. Borderlands has near infinite guns, so does loadout. They are fun, but the quantity of guns isn't what makes them so.

Reading this about campaign multiplayer got me really interested in it, linky as well:

"Respawn’s senior map designer Mohammad Alavi talked to X-ONE about the vision behind making Titanfall a Campaign Multiplayer based game. If you aren’t into that, you can play classic MP modes right from Day 1.

How are you approaching incorporating narrative into multiplayer? Is that how you’re viewing it as a team, or has it been more of a non-traditional approach?

We’re telling a story through a first person perspective in ways that are both traditional to single player campaigns and very new for multiplayer… at least for first-person shooters. Without going into too much boring detail about client/server logistics, asynchronous scripting, and other buzzwords, I can tell you that from the end user experience it feels both familiar and groundbreaking at the same time.

Each multiplayer level has an objective that is presented in a cinematic way with twists and turns that occur as you play. From picture-in-picture updates from NPCs, events that unfold in-game, to the AI soldiers reacting on the ground, the narrative unfolds naturally and ties in seamlessly with the gameplay. Along with the main story arc, major and minor characters react and acknowledge your direct actions, creating a personal experience crafted just for you set in a larger framework. In multiplayer lobbies we continue the narrative to help bridge the gaps between levels. You’ll be changing your loadouts and viewing unlocks while listening to mission briefings that drive the plot along.

In terms of XP gaining, no matter which mode you decide to play, you’ll earn XP and rank up in the game.

How have you added a sense of story-led progression? Will multiplayer progression – in terms of levels/XP – be tied to narrative advancement?

So we’ve only really spoken about one way to play Titanfall. That’s Campaign Multiplayer. You can join a lobby by yourself or with a party, but here’s where it gets different. You and your party or enlisted into a faction, either IMC or Militia. You’ll play the campaign and progress through the narrative hitting the missions in order until you’ve beaten the game on that faction. You’ll then have the option to play through again from the beginning on the other faction. Once you’ve beaten the game from both sides, you’ll be able to play any mission on either faction you like. There are traditional modes as well that you’d expect from a multiplayer FPS game and you can start playing those from the first time you run the game. No matter what you play, you earn XP and progress.

And finally, he also confirmed that Titanfall has a definite ending to it.

Titanfall will most definitely have an ending. It’s not a story if it doesn’t have an ending, but there are multiple sides to that story. It’s told from both the Militia and IMC perspectives, and to fully grasp Titanfall’s campaign, you’ll need to play it from both sides. And as with any good story, we’ve hopefully peppered it with enough detail and nuance that you’ll notice something new every time you replay it."

It would actually be nice to be prompted to grab on to a ledge of a window then try to trick your way in while wall running the adjacent building.

You're not disagreeing with me, you're picking one game that doesn't follow the pattern after I specifically said it doesn't apply to all games or all people.

You're reinforcing my statement.

Thanks, I guess? :p

I might add you're also picking a game that doesn't have competitive multiplayer. Makes it apples and oranges but to be fair I didn't specifically say I was talking about competitive multiplayer games like Titanfall. I could just as easily bring up modded Minecraft which I find almost endlessly entertaining due to a very, very large amount of content to play with, an amount that is steadily increasing. I play modded minecraft nowadays, haven't played vanilla in years.

So good... shit i was fine with attrition and hardpoint being the main modes.

Do you guys think the 360 version will even be worth it? Would love to play this game somehow. PC is too weak, and Xbone isn't coming for at least a year plus.

But that's the problem. None of it has been shown to anybody, anywhere, at any time, as far as we know.

I'd think so. The core gameplay should still work just fine and that is what makes it fun. It just won't look as pretty.

Yes, the game isn't all that good graphically on Xbox One atleast. I'd imagine the 360 version will just be a uglier version. The gameplay is what makes this game.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll end up grabbing it in that case to get my fix. Didn't even know Bluepoint was making it, they're great.

I'll get hyped now.

I've managed to get some perks displaying in the menu now. It's pretty messed up at the moment and names/icons not all properly linked so I'm not taking pictures yet. I can't tell you what tier the perks are in at the moment.
Most of the perks from the dev_tags are fairly obvious what they do but here are 2 perks I thought be interesting to share. The wording is straight from the game:

Dead Man's Trigger
The Dead Man's Trigger auto-detonates all of your planted explosives when you are killed.

Icepick
The 'Icepick' is a modified Data Knife that increases the speed with which you can hack Spectres and turret control panels.

edit - I have posted all perks a few posts down.

pretty much everything im interested in with some bonuses, such as uplink, exfil and elim(which is deathmatch im guessing).
no clue what those other 2 are.. especially atdm.

also, those perks look awful outside of the ordinance.

ATDM souinds like "attrition deathmatch," but I'm really not sure how that's different from attrition.

Exfiltration sounds like a cool way to break up the pace between two hardpoint games. I imagine we'll have to escort a certain number of bots to a shuttle that can be taken down.
I'm really glad Respawn was able to focus on making a MP game with about as many maps and modes as a CoD game, instead of having to half ass a campaign and cut down the number of maps.

Agreed. Nice to see some variation in there and I do hope that the Campaign MP stuff has some of these modes linking together.

Had a weird/awesome idea.

How about a Titanfall based Quake style Rocket Arena. Small arena made for just Pilots, other spectate and wait their turn to duel.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
As so long there are no obvious scoreboards or magical points to hold for some reason, it'll be good, otherwise it's just glorified MP.

Obviously the objectives in the campaign multiplayer should have a narrative focus, even in the gameplay. For people who don't want that, they will still have regular multiplayer.

I was equally excited for TF and Destiny. But after playing a lot of TF, it's just a "good/OK" game to me right now, and that's based on concept and pilot control. It's certainly not worthy of the insane amount of hype it's getting IMHO.

See, not liking a game is different than saying it's not valuable enough for a full priced game. Obviously you are in the minority by saying this game isn't valuable - this game is gonna sell a ton and I know you're gonna use the excuse that there aren't any other shooters coming out but I guarantee you that TitanFall would have sold just as well regardless of that. It's obvious that the game is worthy of its price tag - ESPECIALLY when you look at other games which have the full $60 price tag. Remember, it won all those E3 awards even when other shooters were present. After playing the game, I definitely see merit to it getting those awards too.

I can't comment on the other maps. They maybe awesome. Or, they maybe as generic/poorly laid out as the one's in the beta. The choke points are horrible with the Titans in the maps, and just big traffic jams with your team mates. I stopped playing that last titan standing mode because it was an exercise in frustration.

That's funny because Last Titan Standing is one of my favorite game types. I am pretty good at it because I don't stick with my team - I work on flanking the other titans. The only map where it seemed a bit crowded was Angel City, but Fracture was plenty open for titans and it certainly didn't result in huge traffic jams on that map. Regardless, I think the two maps in the beta are awesome and if the remaining maps retain that quality than we're in for a treat.

I don't base worth on content alone. If it's something that I can play for months, then it's worthy. But there's also a threshold to spending $60 on something that you may get bored in weeks to a month. And this game has that feeling written all over it to me. They're just launching this game in a period where there's nothing else to play shooter wise, which will serve them well.

Again, you're saying that this game is not valuable because you don't like the gameplay. You can't really judge the game on the content in this beta either. Also, if you played the game consistently for a month then how is that not worth the $60 price tag? The Last of Us wouldn't be considered a game worth its price tag based on that criteria but I think that game is definitely worthy of its price tag.

Also, before you bring up The Last of Us having a multiplayer component - I haven't touched the multiplayer. The game could very well have launched without multiplayer and it would have sold just as well and I would still think it was just as valuable.

I just expect more, but the devs/pubs have been training us now for years to expect less for your money. From SP campaign times plummeting to 4 or so hours, to limited MP content.

I expect fun gameplay with quality content. If a game can keep my interest then it has succeeded regardless of the amount of content it has.

There should just be something more to this game. They should have at least had some form of persistent world tied in (even something as simple as Chromehounds). Or massive pilot depth to tune your pilot/titan the way you like it. Hell, is there proper clan support to be in the game outside of maybe a clan tag? But thus far from what was said and what we can experience, it feels the $:content ratio is meh.

If you expected persistent worlds with this game then that is on you for giving this game an expectation that has never been implied by the devs.

Could there be more? Hopefully. I'm down for that, though we don't know. But that's not our problem/fault, that's Respawn not getting enough details with the game being under a month away from launch. If you're having fun with it, awesome. Enjoy. Myself, and many others have differing opinions, and just calling it as it is. The game from what I've experienced thus far, and read content wise here, is a $29.99-39.99 game imho.

I don't really think there's all that many people who will think this game is not worth the price. I agree that Respawn should have been more open with the game but, as you can see with the latest update in this topic, even more game modes were found. A good amount, too!

In this day and age, is it too much to expect fun, value, and depth?

No. Not at all! Good thing this game seems to have all three in spades! =P

The campaign multiplayer is honestly the mode I'm most interested in this game to see what it's like.

Me too. I think it's going to be awesome. What info we do have on it sounds amazing too.

~15 seems like a solid number, but I also think raw map count is a poor measure of value. A single amazing map does far more for longevity than a handful of merely mediocre or above average ones, and "more, more, more!" is typically a very poor approach when it comes to map design. There's a sweet spot to be hit where it feels like there's variety in environments, a diversity of play styles being accommodated to, etc., but at the same time the maps don't blur together and there's room to develop familiarity with them. There comes a point when adding more maps hits diminishing returns, and this is true whether or not a multiplayer mode is coupled with a single player mode.

Frankly, I think there's a design justification for DLC in games like this one. That additional map seems far more exciting ~6 months in than it would have at launch, and also more impactfully boosts longevity ~6 months in than it would have at launch. Of course, I can also see a strong argument for that additional map being free.

Awesome!! Sounds like a great list of modes. TDM, Attrition, and ATDM all sound like the same thing.

I wonder if Uplink is like Headquarters, or Search and Destroy/Demolition.

Exfiltration sounds like a fun use of bots, and I have to assume Capture The Titan is an oddball mode. I still feel CTF has the best potential for competitive play.

If you don't find the gameplay exciting then that's fine - however, if this game did have an arbitrary number that you would find satisfactory, would you see yourself playing the game longer considering you're so quick to judge the beta? Doubtful if you are already bored with it in less than 4 days. It's okay to say you just don't like the game, but don't act like it's because of lack of content. The fact that you're supposedly already bored with the beta means that no amount of content TitanFall would have would satisfy you.

People who are saying it's not worth it due to supposed lack of content are acting like that's a fact in general when that's not the reality in the least. There's a difference between saying that you don't like it because you find the gameplay unexciting rather than saying somehow a number is going to change that.
