Because they didn't improve shit.

They ported the PS360 version to PC, and now they're porting that PC version back to PS4/One. Next-gen wizardry.

Want to know how you are aware of anything like this! Wanting to know, too, if you realize that not every single improvement has to necessarily be one you see. Like I said, they could've done graphical improvements, quickened the load times, etc.

And you do realize that people on this very thread have said that the PC version, assuming that what you said was true, was the superior looking version because they weren't using hardware that would be 8 years outdated in a modern gaming rig, right? That would mean that they wouldn't be as held back with the new console hardware. Not to mention that some people would rather play on a console than on a PC (and vice versa, but why should we judge which platform people prefer to play certain games on?).

TressFX means any other improvements to the game's visuals will be minimal, unfortunately. The PS4 and Xbox One are not super computers.

The sad thing is after beating the game I can say without a doubt that TressFX simply is not worth it. They should have focused on getting the game to run at 60fps more than anything, but I suppose people who would buy a game like this for $60 aren't exactly gameplay-oriented gamers...

Or they haven't played the original and/or want a version optimized for next-gen consoles, using the hardware that is now available to them and having all the DLC out of the box because they haven't experienced the game before and/or want to relive the experience. Why would it disqualify anyone from being about to call themselves a "gameplay-oriented gamer" to want to buy the new version? I'm probably going to get it, but for the reasons I've already specified earlier in the thread.

And, like I said before, while you say that the two next-gen consoles aren't super computers (no one's saying they are), they have far better hardware than their predecessors that were released in the mid 2000's. No doubting that the differences between the PS4 and the PS3 in terms of HDD speed, graphics card capabilities, sound, controls, and load times are like comparing apples to oranges. It's also no doubt that a port from a last gen system to a next-gen one that is taken care of to take advantage of the new hardware will be rewarded if they don't phone it in!

Isn't there a new version of TressFX that isn't as demanding or has that not been released yet? I could have sworn I'd heard about it but I may be mistaken.

I think Ysiadmihi means that with TressFX, and how much of a hit even high end pc's took running it, that unless it's been very radically streamlined and optimised there won't be much juice to run too much extra graphical bling.

In my mind I'm thinking it will be the pc port at high settings at 1080 with a new face model and some other minor tweaks. As this would be the easiest thing to do, I can't imagine SE pumping cash into remodelling huge amounts of the game they all ready felt under performed when they all ready have hires PC assets.

Will be interesting to see a digital foundry comparison. I got this cheap on PC and enjoyed what I've played of it so far.

They still haven't released anymore media for this? No screens, no videos, no trailers?

new polygon preview is like reading porn.

Lara now has this real-life wow factor. We've remapped her whole face, her textures have changed and they now react to what happens to her — when she gets wet, when she gets muddied, when she's covered in blood..."

I've been kinda wondering the same thing. I really hope it's true, because it would be awesome if the PS4 version was 60fps.

Not gonna happen. The frame rate was all over the place on my 7950 with transfx. Shanty town was especially bad

I am guessing 1080p 30 fps with cinematic 24 fps moments

I would pay 60 for a gta5 definitive edition. This, not so much. But I still want it since I never played the last gen version

Screens have been released today along with the previews. They're on most gaming sites. They look quite good. Obviously better than the PS3/360 version and I'd say the lighting and shaders are also visibly better than in the PC version. They don't look THAT impressive, though. Will wait for some videos to see the physics in action for a final judgement but judging by the screens...I don't see the year of work they say they've put in it. Still, it looks good and it's obviously more than a straight PC port. I was just expecting a bit more going by their list of upgrades.

EDIT: I think CVG has all the screens released today in their gallery: http://www.computerandvideogames.co...144,313143,313139,313140,313141,313142,313148

Saw the CVG screens.

New face does nothing for me. Looks like jailbait.

Fire looks nice.

Art style is offputting. I don't want to see an icon like Lara Croft bloodied, muddied, and full of gore. I don't want to play The Descent. But this problem is at the core of the game; the first 20 minutes or so play out (and sound) like a snuff film.

Gross.

Looks incredibly similar to what I played. I cannot believe they want $60 for this...but if people are willing to pay it, well good for them then.

She may as well be a child in that screen with the crashed helicopter.

Here's something I learned about the PS3 version: all SKUs are retailer-specific. I tried to return my still-sealed copy to Walmart, Best Buy, and Target, and none of them would take it. Thanks, Publisher.

why don't you return it to where you got it? I have never heard of stores taking returns from other stores sales??

The framerate dodge is probably because the One and PS4 will be different in that regard.

I hope so. PS Blog describing the framerate as 'buttery smooth' has been mentally ear marked by me to rage about later on if it does turn out to be 30 fps... but right now I'm taking it as a possible hint at something better.

cautiously optimistic and all that because I'm picking this up.

I'm almost done the PC version(4.99 BTW) and I must say the new face looks like shit. Doesn't really match up. I don't recall a part in the game where I wish they re-did her face model.

Combat and exploration still feel great, and DualShock 4′s features have been put to good use. The touchpad can be used to light a torch or adjust the in-game map, for starters. When Lara picks up radio chatter, the voices play out of the controller speaker. The lightbar flashes a staccato rhythm when Lara opens fire, and it lazily glows red and orange to match the light of her torch.

Is it just me or does this sound awful? Will this further kill battery life? Being that I play with a gaming headset I'm already over the "let's play audio on the ds4" after KZ and resogun. It does not immerse me in the game when I have to hold the controller up to my head just to head what is said in the audio logs...

The playstation blog preview reads almost exactly like the IGN preview. I'm assuming they're all just cribbing from the very same press release. It's kinda funny how Ryan skates around the question of framerate by simply referring to it as "buttery". Does "buttery" have a numerical value?

The IGN preview makes a point of saying they were shown the Playstation 4 version. Seems like another instance of a developer showing off the PS4 version, and not the XB1 version.

I read that and immediately thought DO NOT WANT. Please allow us to turn that shit off. :/

In case you hadn't realized the sole purpose of the blog is to pimp PS products and games. That's how corporate blogs work.

I can imagine that it does not have any impact when playing wih a headset. Personally I really enjoyed the audiologs in KZ:SF. The speaker quality gave it just the right feeling.
The battery life of the DS4 has not been a problem for me yet.

Really? Mine is rather loud. You do know, that you can adjust the volume of the DS4, right? Hold the PS button -> adjust devices -> volume.

Ds4 sounds pretty loud and clear to me. But i wouldn't miss these kind of features.
If it's radio, i can live with it. But it's not extra immersive in any way

Console unique features:

SCOTT AMOS: Both consoles have unique features, which is great. On the Xbox One, since it has the Kinect with it, we wanted to put voice commands in from the beginning. Okay, now we have voice commands, now we can do things like have Lara change weapons or change ammo types. We even use it for shortcuts inside some of the menus where she can quickly—If you want to go through your skill upgrades or look at your map, those things you can call out and talk to your Xbox. Those are great shortcuts, a nice enhancement for the player being in the game. We took those voice commands and applied them to the PS4 as well. If you have a microphone plugged into your controller, or if you have the Sony camera, both of those will let you do voice commands on PS4. We have voice commands on both consoles. And then we also have a lean feature. Basically, in certain cinematic sequences where Lara is kind of--Climbing up the radio tower, for example. We added the ability for the Kinect to see you lean left or right. As you do, the camera will go off axis. What used to be a static in-game sequence, where you climbed straight up the ladder, now you can get a different look around where she’s at or what she sees on the other side. Again, it’s a really nice, immersive addition that people can see more than they could see before. It gives a nice touch of, I have a different way of interacting with my world.

On the Dual Shock controller itself, two things we enjoy about it, there’s a speaker built in to the Dual Shock controller. When you’re using and shooting your weapons, it reacts as though you have the weapon in your hand. You’ll hear guns cocking. You’ll hear ammo changing. We use it for the radio communications, so when somebody on a radio calls and talks to Lara through the radio, you’ll hear it come out of the speaker on the controller. Again, it feels like you’re pulled more into the world. On the front of the controller, there’s that light bar as well. For us, the light bar became an opportunity to add one more enhancement. A lot of our players like to sit in the dark, play in a dark room. But if you pull out your torch, that light bar on the front will start flickering red, yellow, and orange, so it feels like the torch is in your hand on the controller, just like it’s in Lara’s hand in the game. On top of that, when Lara has a gun out and she’s shooting, the controller will flash with each of the muzzle flashes. It’s just those little details, again. All of this is about bringing a richer, enhanced experience. It feels like I’m pulled into this game even deeper than I was the last time I played it.

tl;dr:

Both consoles: voice command menu navigation
XB1: Physically lean during certain cinematic sequences
PS4: DS4 speaker for gun and radio comm audio, lightbar mood for torches, muzzle flashes etc...

You seem to be mixing up some generalizations about people in your contempt for the MSRP.

Riveting.

I can't wait until this cross-gen stuff is out of the industry's system.

Urgh, I wish I had even known this was being released so soon. I just recently bought the game for the PC. Doesn't feel like it was a waste though. While I thought the console version already looked and played pretty great, after I started playing it on the PC, I couldn't believe the stark difference. Not just the higher resolution/textures and TressFX, but the framerate just makes it feel like an entirely different game.

Anyway, maybe in the future when it's on sale on Steam I'll pick up the Definitive version, but not anytime soon for essentially the same game with better graphics. What I'm currently playing is no slouch in that department.

There are shades of white. They made her whiter. Her original eyes and other facial features suggest a more diverse background, like a 3rd ancestor being non-white.

aren't her parents landed gentry though? those guys are usually pretty picky about the heritage of their spouses (in the sense of only marrying other landed gentry).
