As good as it looks. I'll wait a couple of weeks/months to see how greedyvision will rape this game with mtx's.
Considering everything is purchased through in-game currency you earn through completing challenges and levels, I don't see them doing anything really. It's actually incredibly modest as well. I mean, never say never I guess, but I don't see how they could MTX the hell out of this, I mean, at the moment there's no reason to whatsoever.

Forreal, I been killing it since it dropped last night(Already got all the parks on THPS1 completely cleared lol) and I been buying stuff with the ingame currency I simply earned. I hate microtransactions with a passion..and I admit it feels good as hell to be dope at a game and actually EARN stuff again lol

Right?! You know it's sad when you expect them to be there in some shape or form, it's so gross.

Picked up my copy at EB just now, came with an EB exclusive THPS fingerboard which is kind of cool. I have a high quality one that I spent a shameful amount of money on and I barely use that, but any freebies are nice.

It's the weirdest thing. Just noticed that with shadows on highest I get 40fps, with them on high I get 120. That's a drop of 80fps just by putting shadows up one notch!

Crazy.
Yeah, I cranked up the settings when I first started and it was a slide show even in the menu. I quickly realized it was the shadows setting - dropped it down to high and I'm at a smooth 4K/60fps. The game's Maximum preset even sets shadows to high and not highest, so it's like the devs are trying to keep us away from that setting. Something must be up with it...

Either way, I'm absolutely abysmal at this game, LOL . I only dabbled in THPS back in the day, and I was pretty crap back then too, so no surprises there. I forgot that it was THPS3 that I had played, so I was saddened to not see Ace of Spades as one of the songs, though the tracklist is pretty good otherwise.

Question for the vets - how do you chain vert tricks together in a half-pipe? I know to revert when landing then into a manual, but I lose steam and can only go into a grind or lip trick on the other end. Is it possible to chain a bunch of vert tricks into a combo?

Cool, glad I'm not the only one with the weird shadow problem.

PSA everyone - reduce the shadow setting to send your FPS through the roof.

You can chain a bunch of revert tricks but it's harder without max stats. Otherwise just go into a grind and then another manual and try and find another vert. Also, try and have an easy special of each type that you know off by heart - I use left right or up down for all specials. Also make sure you have a manual special move, it's easy points. Can't stress that enough. I have down up Y for my manual special.

Anyway...

I woke up this morning not knowing that I wanted this game and I'm going to bed knowing that I need it in my life for many hours to come. It's just awesome. That being said, I'm surprised by the lack of nostalgia I've had - especially for the music, most tracks seem new to me- and I don't remember the levels that well but man, the gameplay, my brain remembers that for sure. It's just so fluid, immediate, intrinsic and enjoyable and I can't stop playing. One more run, and again, and again .. "I'll hit a 500k combo next run for sure."

I'm rusty as hell but it's slowly coming back to me. After 2 hours I'm sensing that around the corner is the zen like high again of being in a 100k+ combo where the game is almost playing itself, with my fingers moving independently of my body as I kick flip into and out of every grind, special after special, revert, manual, special grind. And the constant drip feed of dopamine as I collect unlock after unlock is the icing on the cake. That and after playing MSFS (which I love) at 20FPS the 120 I'm getting is like a salve to the eyeballs.

Highest score so far is only 245k with 88k being my highest combo. Not great .. yet.

Feels pretty awesome. Man I haven't played this game in like over 10 years and immediately without even being prompted or seeing this anywhere, I was double tapping up when hitting a vert for the extra height from a Boneless.....just some damn old muscle memory lol. These mechanics are perfect and it's a shame it took this long for us to see them again. Hopefully we can get a brand new game built for current gen from the ground up if this does well enough.

I preordered on Amazon and when it hit me with a “delayed shipping” message, immediately canceled. I ordered digitally for the first time. I figured I was only going to sell this game when I sell my PS4.

Smashed out the first game 100% in my first sitting. It's really good, really good. Will do the 2nd game tomorrow and then just casually replay them on new characters until I'm bored. Once you have the positions on the collectables locked down you can really push those times down.

This is a very noob question, because I haven't played THPS in 10+ years - why can't I activate some specials (the ones from the moves list)? I have the special bar filled up, I press the button combination when I'm in the air and nothing happens.

I didn't have that problem in the tutorial... is it because my character needs to earn more skill points?

I would guess either the move is supposed to be a grind or a manual, or you don't have it assigned to one of your five (eventually ten) trick slots.

Do you have to rotate the sticks to do your special move quicker? I’m failing my special (900) loads and I’m not sure if I should be doing something else after pressing down right b

Most grab tricks in the game animate for only as long as you hold the grab button. Just let go of the button before you land. The 900 animates the whole trick every time, and it requires a lot of air to complete. If you're not able to perform the 900, either boneless before the 900 (tap "up" twice, just before you leave the quarter pipe) or wait until your stats are higher.

Can anybody tell me what online multiplayer modes are supported? Do you have to unlock them? Can't play tonight (Mulan) but want to jam to some horse tomorrow with buddies if possible.

you just have to have enough air.
special moves execute themselves, you have to do nothing aside from not fucking up your rotation.

so simply jumping up a ramp and inputting the command should absolutely be enough, just get enough hight

Is it the exact same goals from the original games? I want to pick this up sometime soon no matter what, but I was hoping for revamped goal lists or at least added goals on top of the old ones to pad it out a bit.

It might end up being a really short game for experienced players otherwise.

Funny, THPS2 originally came with one when you pre-ordered from EB in the UK 😃
This was before GAME took over

I'm pretty sure they're unlocked from the start.

Goals are the same, other than the THPS1 levels, which now have 10 goals instead of the 5 they originally had. Point goals are increased as well, due to the moves that have been added to the game. Experienced players will still have a lot to work towards with the challenge system, which has tasks a lot harder than what the main goals ask of you. It'll also likely take you a while to hit every gap in the game.

Crash Team Racing anyone?

Edit
And if you can't see how they could add new cloth's, skateboards, chars, etc. I feel pity for your naivety.

So can the PC version do 144fps? It’s not locked at 60 is it? Wondering if I should get this on PS4 Pro or PC.

Yeah this was partially the problem which I discovered later on, but I'm also struggling with the perfect inputs using the analogue stick, works easier if I use the d-pad, but I'm not sure if I want to play the whole game that way.

This is so much fun. It can’t be said enough, for the amount of time this series has lost its way.

I really didn’t know what to expect. I haven’t even really thought about Tony Hawk since the 2000s were in the early single digits. There was a cynical part of me that wondered if this was just going to be Boomer Memberberries, put aside after a few plays.

But this is complete, near-instant joy. It’s not nostalgia. I can see why it was such a smash hit back then, and I can see why it’ll be now.

The moment I started on the warehouse yesterday I was pretty much in love with the game.

All the familiarity, all the things I remember in glorious new graphics. It really is one of the best remakes/remasters I’ve ever had the joy of picking up.

I smashed out THPS1 yesterday and told myself that I would leave THPS2 for today, but I couldn’t help but carry on after a bit of Warzone and I’ve nearly done THPS2. I only stopped because it was late and I had to get up early today.

Can’t wait to go online with the game against others.

Just to expand on what I said here, don't expect a new series of goals. Do expect the game to give have an extensive list of challenges that work somewhat like the challenges in a Call of Duty game. There's over 700 of them. Some accumulate over time, and some combine previous challenges. For example, you unlock the last trick slot through a challenge. After earning other slots by performing individual special moves, the last unlock requires you to do four separate special moves in one combo. Another might ask you to do a specific special move in a 60,000 point combo. They get a lot harder than that, though, and there's a bunch that are skater specific. If you enjoy that sort of thing, there's a lot to like.

Maybe I should toggle assistance on.

You might not want to do that. In the demo, there was nothing to separate scores achieved with mods and scores that were not. There's something in the stats menu in the full game that lists both best run with mods and without, but that's only for that area, and it isn't per level. I would guess that the main scores stats on each level won't know the difference. You should consider just getting better over the days and weeks like you did 20 years ago. Longevity and replay value aren't a bad thing. But being stuck with an insane "high score" because you turned on cheats sounds like a bad idea.

I would absolutely suggest playing the game with the d-pad. The analog stick takes too long to move in comparison. When you have less than a second to hit down, up / up, up / left, right so you can manual, boneless, and special right before and after hitting a quarter pipe, digital instant inputs are important.

Slowly getting there. Up to 175k combo and a 400k highest run. Still miles away from the combos I could land but I don't have max stats and I'm still shaking tons of rust off. Also I'm probably spending more time hunting for the collectables than score chasing, unfortunately.

Online mode looks great, can see myself spending a lot of time there when the rust is gone. Played a few rounds and got owned. Also the leaderboard scores are gonna hook me I can tell.

Oh and I'm playing with the stick, unfortunately. Been that way since to thps3 as a launch game on the GameCube and I can't go back to d pad manuals. Feels weird

Can I create a female custom skater with a female body?
So far it seems I can chose a woman's head but she has a male body
