My niece was named Emma when she was born last summer.

My name will never show up on that list.

I'm too tired to look at the boys list now.

Interesting.
I wonder when my name fell off the top 10? Charles that is.
Seems like my sister's name is still up there though, and that's been going strong since at least 1991.

Interesting change in trends, that's for sure.

I see Ireland and India in there. Whats with calling your child after countries. Is that allowed? Seems weird to me.
There's also America.

And Londyn.

lol

my personal favorite is Princess though

My sons name is Jaydon. I wanted Hal or Grayson. I lost. At least he will fit in.

My name is Jim so having a generic name(which jaydon will be) is fine with me.

Wait until the average age of GAF rises a bit more, and you'll start to see names like "Samus", "Altair", "Snake", "Master Chief", and "Waluigi" appearing on those lists.

And watch the generation after that come up with alternate spellings:

Sammas, Altayr, Sneyk, Mister Chef, Walouisjee.

Really? Karter?

Even though it would be a long, long way off and I'm not even sure I want kids, I think Isaac would be a good name for a son if I had one. Not too popular but still solid and recognizable.

I've seen both of those as far back as junior high almost 20 years ago, so they had to have been chosen 30+ years ago. Though I think the girl had it spelled Amerika.

Darn Twilight...

Michael man, that name will never die.

I too am surprised not to see John in the top 10.

Um, the girls list is always all over the place and there is a ton of shuffling.

Anyway, what happened to naming kids after grandparents or important people? Does reality suck that much? For me, bringing part of your escapist fiction into the real world kind of ruins things.

Wow, I'm surprised that my name is actually on the top 1000 list, since it's an obscure family name I inherited from my great-grandfather, who probably inherited it from someone further down the line. And apparently it's growing in popularity!

How often do you have to spell yours out for people?
I just say a common name that's the same but for one letter and add "only with a [insert the first letter of my name] instead of a [insert first letter of name that is familiar to person I am talking to]". I'm not on the list either, but I'm sure it's common somewhere. I get a lot of Indian people telling me what I was named for (which they are completely wrong about) and what my name means (as though I'm not aware of this).

Damn. Our daughter was born last year and it took us ages to find a name we liked that wasn't insanely popular - Aubrey.

Seems it's skyrocketed in position in the past year or two. I hope there aren't a shit-ton of them running around in the next ten years like there are bloody Bellas at the moment.

Also, the hell kind of name is Addison for a girl? It's an adrenal condition and/or a last name, and yet it's in 11th place. Also, Avery, as high as it is, will always be a boy's name (I realize my daughter's name used to be male only too).

And similar to looking at names last year, it's amazing how many people will bizarrely misspell a common name just to have something less common. So not only is their kid saddled with a silly name, but they'll always have to correct people on the spelling and be even more embarassed about it.

I feel ya, I got my name before it was cool, my name is just too hip for the main stream.

I'm actually surprised to see my name crack the top 700. It has even declined since 09 (as it should).

My name is terrible. But looking at some of the names on that list.. it could have been much, much worse..... much worse.
