Update from IGN:

The Trophy support comes in the form of a new Trophy Challenge Mode which has you clear stages under certain limitations and conditions.

Update from PS Blog:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/...ates-incoming/
Hi PixelJunkies! I’m Matt Morton, Associate Producer at SCEA Santa Monica Studio and I’ve had the great fortune of working on the PixelJunk series since the very first title, PixelJunk Racers. We’ve been working hard to keep spreading the PixelJunk Love (as Deb Mars calls it) and wanted to give you a heads up on the upcoming patch for PixelJunk Monsters and PixelJunk Monsters: Encore.

The patch will be releasing VERY soon, with Japan getting the first patch release on October 23. If all goes well with final testing, you will see the patch in SCEA and SCEE territories on October 30. If there are any delays to the above mentioned dates, we will be sure to update the blog to let you know about it, so stay tuned!

The Q-Games team has been hard at work on the PixelJunk Monsters patch and has packed a TON of great features into this great game. I’ll give you a quick breakdown of some of the new features you will expect to see:

Game Difficulty settings
You can now choose between three different difficulties of gameplay! There is a Casual mode, the Regular/Ranked mode, and Hard-core mode. The great news here is that you can use any combination of difficulties to complete your progress through the islands! Is there one particular map that’s too hard? Try it in Casual mode. If you Rainbow the level, that rainbow counts and will remain on the map no matter what difficulty the other rainbows were achieved at! Only the Regular difficulty will register on the ranking boards, though.

Tower Menu selection
You can now set the default menu to appear when selecting a tower! How many times have you sold off a tower and run over to another tower to quickly upgrade it and accidentally sell it by mistake? I know I’ve done that many, many times. Now you can choose which option appears as the default, instead of the last action you selected.

Tower Balancing
Those of you who have purchased Encore know about the reduced cost on the Ice Tower, and balanced functionality of the Tesla tower. This patch applies those changes to BOTH islands, not just the Encore island.

Video Recording / YouTube Support
Ever since Q-Games included this feature into PixelJunk Eden, we knew it needed to be in Monsters as well. You will be able to record up to 10 minutes of gameplay and upload it directly to your YouTube account, or send it to your video folder on your PS3’s XMB.

XMB Custom Soundtrack Support
You can now make your own custom soundtrack to listen to as you play PixelJunk Monsters and Encore! I’ve personally been enjoying listening to the PixelJunk Eden soundtrack while I play Monsters, as well as listening to the PixelJunk Monsters soundtrack within Eden! It’s great how well those fantastic soundtracks work in other games.

With these features being added, and several other small bugs being fixed in the game, we think you’ll have a great time playing PixelJunk Monsters and Encore all over again.

I think that’s about it … But it feels like I’m missing something … Hmm … I can’t quite put my finger on what I might be forgetting. Wait a minute … I remember now …

TROPHIES
Trophies are now added for both PixelJunk Monsters and Encore. We weren’t able to retroactively apply Trophies to the previously played data, but Q-Games didn’t want to force people to play everything all over again. They came up with a great idea by creating Trophy Challenges. These challenges have specific maps with set rules or objectives that will reward you with Trophies if you complete them properly.

Hell yeah such an awesome game cant wait!
Lets just hope they are not as hard to get as the Eden trophies, some easy ones like kill 1000 enemies would be good.

Ugh, tell me about it. Eden's trophies almost turned me off from the game altogether.

For those curious the screenshot shows a trophy which, if my Japanese is correct, is asking for the player to complete that level (or any level, that's the part I'm unsure about) without upgrading any towers (hence the trophy name Green Flag).

you know you're going to do it again, if they ain't retro. Stop fronting :D

shit I ain't.

I don't really get what the hub-bub is about Trophies/achievements/dingle-dogs

If I get it normally while playing sure but I won't go an extra miles to enlarge my e-penis.

Regardless I will attempt to get Rainbow on all levels if there is a trophy since I was planning on it, now I have something of an incentive to do it.

I might want to go back to this. How can I get the bonus campaign? I remember it being mentioned a while back that buying pixel junk eden over some time period would unlock one.

I can't read Japanese. Does the article say when the patch is coming?

Well, it says trophy challenge at the top. I want to know when this is coming because it has been talked about for a while.

Edit: Oh so I had to click the article. Woo late October!:D

Just seems to say late October, so that's hopefully this week or next...

Had this game since it first came out but I never got around to playing it, when I was gonna play it they announced trophy support so I've been waiting for this ever since, can't come soon enough...

10月下旬 = Last half of October I believe.

Is that second screenshot in the article the map of Encore or a new map? I didn't read the article (not that fluent :lol) but it seems like they are adding a Trophy Challenge mode. Maybe it's not related to the original stuff at all, and instead is a third map with a trophy for each stage (notice the one stage has a rainbow, but others have a rainbow with gold trees).

Might be time to buy the expansion pack now.

I wish they could patch in the ability to see what KIND of "Flashing" enemy it is on the bottom of the screen. It can make or break everything you worked on for the last 18 minutes.

I could be mistaken, but when this was first revealed didn't they also say they were going to make it easier to open new levels?

Also, is there any chance of another expansion pack?

the article mentions adding difficulty levels too.

I don't care about trophies, but even the slightest reason to play through my GOTY will be grasped with both hands.

According to the linked article, "System Background Music" and a Youtube upload function are also in the patch. It also says that new difficulties are selectable, and that the new difficulties affect the "tower parameters."

The rest of the article is just about a "buy Eden, get Racers free" promotion in Japan. No information about the supposedly forthcoming Eden difficulty patch.

Have a fun! Enjoy!

Really what is the fun in that?

Where does it say you need to rainbow levels? It sounds like trophies are awarded for doing some special stuff in levels.

If it's only for doing something special...then, that's fine with me.

However, if there's a trophy for rainbowing everything...EPIC FAIL. NO WAI am I doing that all over again. I've rainbowed the entire game and expansion pack.

Cool my PJM save got nuked last month, so it looks like i'll be getting back into it in the same manner I got back into Burnout Paradise, having your PS3 die on you is the worse thing ever!

Not just Trophy support, but system music support and YouTube upload support too.

EXCELLENT.

Retroactive?
I hope not! I need a reason to replay it. :D

They might go easy on us like the Burnout team did if they know it is not retroactive. In Burnout the trophies were fairly easy and there wasn't a trophy for getting 100% completion, or even 100% bill boards smashes or even getting an elite license. All the challenges were fairly reasonable. It wasn't like you had to go blow another 60 hours on the game.

These new challenges actually sound fun. Stuff like beat the level with only green flags is practically adding an interesting new gameplay mode the game.

sykoex

Lost all credibility.
My mother will like this. She got all the rainbows playing 2-players, controlling both characters and now just plays tum tum island over and over.

Corran Horn

May the Schwartz be with you
Oh crap I dont remember how to rainbow/beat any of the levels anymore...time to practice before it comes! :lol

Every time I read something about "Game XY gets Trophies" I'm like "OMG, I'll get every single one"... I end up getting about half of them - then I stop caring about.

Always wanted to buy Pixel Junk Monsters, now I have one more reason to get it.

Uncompleted trophies to me are a reason to revisit the game a few years later. Especially on downloadable games. It's not like you are going to lose them or trade them away. You will have them for many many years. If not forever.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Seriously, this is great news!

Eden took me about a week to get 100% in and I'm pretty sure this'll be just as tough (and fun).

Rainbowing everything took me quite a while but yeah I'm willing to do it again, definitely.

Replay value.

I'd love to play through MGS4 again(only beat it once) but I'd like that extra push to play it again, trophies would help a lot. You get extra accomplishments along with trying new things in the game.

Samething with tons of other games, like PJM(never beat it), cod4 would be easy for me, etc.

I've played the PJM patch. Don't worry about it being "retroactive" or not -- the trophies are in a self-contained mode. Don't know if I'm allowed to say more than that yet.
