wh.gov/techbias greets the visitor with the following paragraph:

SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear “violations” of user policies.
No matter your views, if you suspect political bias caused such an action to be taken against you, share your story with President Trump.

What do you think?

Facebook calls itself a platform and publisher whenever they see fit. They are getting platform protection rights, yet openly went on record in court, under oath, saying they were a publisher.

Thus the platform protection rights should be removed. They are having their cake and eating it too.

Vox updates the article almost 2 weeks later and removes the "Facebook is trying to have its cake and eat it too" part showing Facebook's double speak
(7:20 of the video shows pre-removal, lol). Our media man, FFS.

You fuckers are now getting the archive treatment and no clicks due to your bullshit editing of the story.

The funniest part about the war between tech companies and right wingers is that it gets right wingers to argue that companies can be big enough to have a social responsibility and need their rights infringed to protect the people. Wouldn't see them doing that for companies that screw little people financially or destroy the environment, of course.

Why is this "funny"? Plenty of so-called right wingers hate large institutions.

It's definitely been quite a revelation to see them claim that maybe (certain tech-related) monopolies are bad after all.

Or they are gathering anecdotal data to make an argument in court
This sort of data is not admissable in court (or it shouldn't be), because the nature of the questioning is partisan, and it's not an agnostic polling data set.

Well principles are fine and dandy. The real world is another thing entirely. You can have a principle of nonviolence, but if a guy is coming after you with a machete, you can either choose to fight back, or choose to not exist.

Yes, the standard conservative principle is to say the government should interfere with the activities of the average person as little as possible. That includes the everyday person who's running a business. However, if the business has become explicitly political (for one party), then at what point does the activity become an in-kind contribution for the Democrats?

It's kind of the reverse of the liberal argument about churches: If they want to talk about politics from the pulpit, then let's tax the shit out of them.

If conservative political candidates cannot:
  • Communicate with potential voters via Facebook
  • Communicate with potential voters via Twitter
  • Raise money on Patreon
  • Explain their positions on Youtube
  • Have blogs

Then, pretty soon there won't be any conservatives in office (which I suppose is the whole point). So conservatives have to make a choice: They can uphold their principles and choose to not exist, or they can fight back.

Anecdotal testimony being partisan has nothing to do with it being admissable in court.

It will be challenged and probably thrown out. Or at least disallowed for being used as a basis for a ruling or judgment.

I wasn't aware that conservatives were banned for being conservatives. I'll be careful to not post that I believe in de-regulation and lower taxes for the rich on Twitter.

They are starting with people that are more extreme such as Alex Jones but then it will expand over time. Might as well start fighting back now.

Or maybe it won't. Or maybe he plans on writing an executive order and wants testimony to back his case.

There is no downside to doing this if you're Trump.

You are so full of shit, you know damn well that if you identify as being a conservative/Republican/anything that isn't an SJW like yourself you are being censored across Twiiter, Youtube, Facebook, Patreon, etc... Stop acting passive aggressive and at least admit that this is happening instead of you and your band of comnunists actively denying our free speech and way of life is being threated by tyrants like you.

I know you think you’re being clever but you’re essentially painting all conservatives as libertarians in order to make your point. I’m sure you would be opposed to a conservative painting all liberals as socialists to make a point.

Don't bother.

They have to live in denial because they can't defend what these companies openly do without contradicting themselves.

I've seen people who are proud conservatives saying the N-word and calling minorities (I hate that term) all sorts of slurs on Facebook and they are still on there. I've also seen liberals spout racist nonsense and still on there.

But say something anti-Semitic and you're either banned for a while or outright deleted.

I have no patience for anti-Semitism and racism. But it seems some of the mods on FB (corporate) seem to pick and choose which racists and anti-Semites get to stay or not.
