Trump hires new deputy chief of staff whose wife's twitter feeds contains gems like "White people can't say N-word but Black people can"

I don't see anything wrong with the hiring. He hired the husband and not her. Not his problem.

Hiring the co president of a cable news network, who has been named alongside said network in numerous sexual assault suits, as deputy chief of staff for the administration should give everyone pause.

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion

No but see Trump did it so its okay. Its only bad if one of the Democrats do it. Thats when we are supposed to get mad and demand that people start resigning.

Seriously though I don't get how people are shrugging this off. I am used to people hand waving away all the bad shit that Trump does on a regular basis, but handwaving racist comments by the wife of the new Chief of Staff to the POTUS is just a new level of ridiculous. Because if she is like that in public then I can only imagine what she says in private and since he is married to her he at the very least tolerates it which means he tolerates racism in his own home and at worst he agrees with it and he is a full blown racist himself. Thats not someone I want working in the White House.

Then again we have numerous racists in the White House now so I guess one more isn't that big of a shock to most people.

To the replies saying "His wife wasn't hired", I asked in the original post what if the wife had praised Black Panthers? ISIS? Would you still say "His wife wasn't hired"?

Well, it's a good thing she isn't praising anyone. Stop dealing in ridiculous hypotheticals.

Before this spirals into yet another thread of abstracts and otherings, may I suggest that we humanize ourselves a bit? It is easy to turn a person into an abstract, a thing. It's easier to hate things. That is why there was so much racist propaganda in our world wars. A person becomes an abstracted monstrosity in order to make it easier to attack.

Let's not do that again, by example we can find a new way. I'll start. This is not easy for me to admit, but I will for the health of our community. I own over one hundred board games and never play them. Not because I don't want to, mind you. I don't have any real friends to play with. My daughter doesn't like them and my wife is the same. I hold onto them because I am hopeful that someday someone will want to play with me. I am a grown man and feel pathetic because of this.

Who do you think is being abstracted? The co president of fox news, who was in charge of creating disingenuous programing? Or his wife who literally has posted dumb shit on twitter?

The woman is more than the sum of her tweets. She has a whole life full of things you don't know about. Now in the instance of her tweets, she is the one abstracting. The only thing I suggested was that we not let her make us sink to doing it ourselves. It is in our nature to group up. So let's us, all of us here on this forum, group up. But we'll be a different kind of group. One that lets people feel welcomed, like that bar on that TV show "Cheers" that I can't remember the name of. Sure we can disagree, but we will disagree as individuals, as people. I want you to know that I am a frail and fragile person just like you. But I can also aspire, just like you.

What white people and black people? There was black people who had & sold slaves, not only black slaves, but white slaves too. Could those people say the N word?

And also, the inmense majority of white people never had slaves. Can their descendents said the N word then? what about the descendent of someone who had his mother raped and murdered by black people? Can that person say the N word because it's historically justified then?

This is such a dishonest post. The N word was used to dehumanize black people to justify their slavery, their oppression, their subjugation, their rape, their lynching, etc etc. So I ask again, does it have the same history as applied to white people?

"what about the descendent of someone who had his mother raped and murdered by black people? Can that person say the N word because it's historically justified then?" Are you asking me, if in this specific context, can racism be justified? Well let me help you answer your own question, are the descendants of slaves today allowed to hate white people because it is historically justified?

Trump supporters love this. But if she was a Black panther sympathiser, or a jihadist sympathiser, I bet this conversation would be different....
What kind of comparison is this? Black Panther was in my knowledge a very violent organisation aka terroist and jihad? Really?

Also I agree that people should be allowed to say it since I am against any form of discrimination. And lets be honest here. If I would say nigga and you would beat me for it. I would win at a court because it is not illegal to say it. Either we ban the word completly or everyone has the right to say it.

Thanks for demonstrating my point.

I didn't though did I? Since I haven't shown support to anyside, all I did was ask if it is ok to hire someone with a racist spouse. The answers I have got here is that it is ok to hire a spouse of a racist, but not a spouse of an jihadist.

Instead of racism, her tweets contained symapthies for jihadis or Black panther, would you still support hiring the spouse of that person?

No one deliberately falls into a honeypot, dear. Your question holds no nuance, it is not subtle enough. Magic 8 ball says, "Try again later".

Since I am for free political opinions I will say yes as long they do not promote and encourage violence . For example if you talk abou jihad as struggle than it is fine. If you talk about the holy war then not.

So a tweet like "ISIS is just defending themselves" would be ok? That tweet didn't encourage violence, but it is obviously contains sympathies for ISIS. But in your mind, there is no issue with hiring the spouse of that person?

Right, can't admit to the double standard so it's a "honey pot". Ok.

You can be his second. I expect the Marquis of Roxberry rules in our duel. No peeking!!

Are you two so blinded by your hatred of "Trumpsters" or "Morons" as you like to think, that you will slap away an attempted olive branch of peace between our tribes? Yes she said horrible things. The divisions run deep. But are we not Gaffers? If you prick us, do we not pixelate? Is say to you one and all. Let us have a truce in our adverseness. We can bring about hope and change!!

NO since you are encouraging a terror organisation who tries to change the political field due to fear and violence. Why is this so hard to understand. Racist are not a formed group everyone can and often is some level of racist. A formed group who's goal is a political change through violence.

What is it that some of you want? To admit she said stupid things? Yes, she did. What the heck are we supposed to do about it? What happens if she comes forward and admits she was awful and will try to do better in the future? Can she be forgiven? Will some of you never be satisfied until we all live in your idea of a glorious socialist state? Who's back will be against the wall first? The enemies of the state, or the useful idiots? I read on the other place that some people really believe that 1/3 of Americans are racist and irredeemable. Who here believes that? I have a hard time thinking that people really believe that!!

I don't want to live in your "New Socialist Republic", so you will have to eliminate or re-educate me. That is what I think you are after, tell me I'm wrong please.

Wouldn't defending the confederate/confederacy fall into that too? Since you are defending a state that encouraged violence against the USA to keep the black people enslaved? And yes she has tweets with the confederate flag and defending it. Surely that falls into your "its all good unless you encourage violence" stance on hiring people with problematic spouses?

I'll change my hypothetical from "ISIS is cool y'all" to something a little less blunt. How about "In my opinion, shariah law is the best system of governance". No violence encouraged there, just a religious, albeit misguided, belief. So hiring the spouse of someone who tweets that is ok?

I know it seems like I keep moving the goal posts to try to catch you out, but that isn't my intention. My aim is to try to make you see this issue from the other side, have a sense of common understanding with the "other" group so that we can have a proper, honest dialogue.

Having issue with Trump's tolerance of intolerance is not the same as wanting to start a marxist revolution mate. I just want you to see things from the perspectives of the "other" side. See why they might find the his hiring problematic. Hiring a guy who defended sexual assault during his tenure in Fox and someone who married a racist.

And no I don't think anyone is irredeemable, nor do I believe that 1/3 of Americans give a shit about how much melanin someone has, but a sizeable minority do, and they became emboldened after Trump's victory.....

And no I don't want to "re-educate" you, all I want is an honest discussion. Just some honesty for once. Can we all admit that if tweets were pro BLM/pro palestine/pro black panther/pro sharia instead of racist ones, then the same people who are defending the hiring now would have a problem with it....

Can they hopefully now come to some understanding with those who find the racist tweets unnerving? Find the hiring of someone with a racist spouse unnerving? Hiring of a defender of sexual assault unnerving?

Your question is by it's nature rhetorical, it cannot be answered in a way that will satisfy. I just saw your reply to me, but you are just saying the same thing again, so I can retort here just fine. It would be improper of me to imply a positive where only a negative was attributed, so let me ask plainly. Do you wish for a day when the revolution will take hold among the proles to spark a new beginning for mankind? A beginning where equality of outcome for all will be finally achieved?

People like to beat around the bush when asked directly these questions. I hope you will be direct in your reply.

This is the beginning of the dialog you so wish for. It starts with an axiom.

Don't try to psychoanalysis me. You know very little about me and my temperament. I was fair to you in not assuming, please show me the same courtesy. I am not trolling you. I am deadly serious. I think people use words like "progressive" or even the ideas behind "racist America" to couch what it is they are really after. I did not directly ask if you were a communist, because I know you would deny it if you were. I asked you a simple yes or no question. You indirectly answered it. I can assume you mean no, but you didn't really say no, did you? How can we have a dialog if you won't answer a simple yes or no question. I even asked for you to be direct in your response. follow up question
Will this new beginning mean that equality of outcome is finally achieved?

There will be no WW3 caused by this administration, but you can bet humanity will be sent back in time by 40-50 years in it’s attitude and values.

I do not believe that people think that to be honest. You can interpret it like that just like people do this with the stupid Trump hat. Also If you look at Linda Sarasour who is a huge fan of the Sharia and even the Muslim Brotherhood which is forbidden here in Germany she has no consequences even was seen as the rolemodel for the women's march. In these days it always depends on which side you are on. Also Sharia law states to kill homosexual people.... so it is a form of violence. Everyone who supports the Sharia is not a moderate but an extremist. And the difference to the flag or hat that it actually states to kill people.

They in context means President Trump supporters, I assume. Forgive me for that, but I think I am correct in my assumption. I am a President Trump supporter. Ergo, I am scared that the world looks different. "Good old days" in context means a time before the civil rights movement when taken with the previous sentence.....40-50 years back in time. Can we just assume that we both know what it is you were inferring so I don't have to spell it out? You want to call me a racist, but for some reason you need to put it in code. Am I correct? There were calls for dialogue, let's have it. I am game. I can articulate fairly well. I only use simple language and I don't throw a bunch of charts up to confuse.

Don't tell me what I value. Ask me if you're uncertain. I like you, and I hardly know you. Let's discuss!

I have a relative who just started playing strategy games at her local library, and she loves it. They can't plan events there often enough for the group, so they also meet up in public to play at other times as well. Maybe check to see if your local library offers anything similar.

LOL thank you. I have felt like I farted in church when I wrote that. What I wrote was true, but believe me I have tried meetups and other avenues. Most of the groups in my area are suspicious of outsiders. I couldn't find an "in" with them. It's was a blow to my esteem. I recover easily, though.

Ok im down I’m not talking about trump supporters I’m talking about the administration.
We have the same shit here in the U.K. this wonderfully wonderful amazing Brexit thing. Great success (I’m a remainer)

I know and believe that not all leavers are racist. I know of leavers who are very multi cultural they had reasons for the vote that were not steeped in swivel eyed knee jerk xeno phobia.

But the way some of the government is handling this issue is scary
Farage
Rees-Mog
They had the idea to leave but once they got it they have no clue over than leave the EU

Now I am sure not all trump supporters are rascist, or right wing nutters.
People voted for a change for a future for jobs so they did what they had the right to do. To vote

People in the U.K. did that to. The status quo wasn’t aiding them they wanted a new start. So they voted out.

So when I say about the hard reset I’m talking about the people in power. not the voters. So I am not taking a dig or a stab or an attack at trump voters.
Rather those in power.

No offence or slight was intended on you or anyone who voted for trump.

It just seems a lot of older men in power want things to be a certain way.

Sorry, but you already admitted all that needs to be said

"To be fair, the White House isn't hiring Darla Shine. They are hiring her husband. And most Americans are not denied jobs because of the behavior of their spouses."

This is a perfect example of one of the Left's favorite terms: whataboutism.

Er no, that's now how whatboutism works...

But you voted for Hillary who called African-American children in gangs "superpredators", who was the wife of Bill Clinton who used super-racist campaign slogan "Make America Great Again" nearly 30 years ago.

I like you more now and wish we were neighbors! You are not sure of some things. Like if all President Trump supporters are racist or "right wing nutters". I wish I had an answer for you to calm your fears. I'll let you in on a secret about Americans. We value our liberty more than we fear death. Some of us see the violence and hate and are so upset about it, but what can we do? What can I do? I'm just one guy in a small town. I don't believe in the call for a "New World Order". To be really honest, I just want to be left alone so I can take care of me and mine. Mine means more than you think it does. I help in my community where I'm able. I buy locally when I can, to help my neighbors and friends. I make sure to smile at everyone who I make eye contact with. That is a hard thing to do, but I do it just the same.

I don't believe that more government intervention in my life will make it any better. In fact, I think it will make it worse. I believe that all government should be from the "bottom up" as it were. Let's co-ordinate on a local level, do what's best for us who live right here. I hate the ideas of crony and cartel capitalism. I see the merger of Disney and Fox as a bad thing, but again, what can I do about it? I want a diversity of options like I remember from when I was younger. Now, it's just a choice of two. And one is a shell company for the other.

I keep hearing how our political structure is more like a horseshoe where both ends are basically the same. But what about anarchy? Isn't that a political philosophy? Even if it's a dead end, where does it lay upon spectrum? Are my only choices really fascism and communism? I don't want either. The "liberals", as I see them anyway, are really just mini-Marxists. They say equality, but they mean equality of outcome. That is a fools errand and should never be striven for. I voted for President Trump and hope that he will think of America first, which is what I believed he promised. I can only wait and hope I was right. If I'm wrong, and a New Nazi party really starts. I'll be the first in line to defend that which I hold dear.

I hope you understand better, or at least can see me a human being. Just like you, just like all of us.

Old racist people having less options to spew their bile through is always a good thing. Sorry sweetie, Thug will have to do for now. I dont know if her husband also believes the same way but odds are, he does.

Calm down. I am not a Trump supporter, I don't even live in there. And what do you mean with "tweeted things you are against" and then saying "instead of racism"? Looks like you are saying that I am not against racism. Of course i am against, racism is bad!
But it's not Trump's fault that this guy has some bad people in his family. He was hired based on his skills.
If you have a family member who supports ISIS, does that mean you should not be hired for a job which you have the skills for? Is it your fault? No more jobs for you until your family member changes his opinion?

That is like make the children responsible for what the parents did. AKA history and slavery so no thank you. A person is stlll an individual and should be treated as such. I or you have nothing to do with what your parents or ancestors did. I am responsible for me and in some circumstances my children when they are young. But thats it. You can criticize her without going against him as well. What should he do? Punish her for bad tweets?

I think luigimario luigimario might just be very young and have not yet developed a more nuanced mind yet.
The complete "I am morally right" and the whole binary "if you are not with me you are the enemy" is not uncommon in younger teens.

As Gandalf said, only children and fools deal in absolutes.
