9 minutes makes me wonder if price will even be announced tbh. Maybe they are specifically doing this to freak DF and others out and just generate noise instead of answering a lot of burning questions.

I mean - other than FSR (which is the most widely supported upscaler on the market, despite it's perceived challenges), who exactly is struggling?
In picture quality in movement....everyone except Nvidia.
Hell MS's spatial upscaler is - better - than DLSS1.x or FSR1.x ever were, and runs on substantially lower-end hw than what the others usually target.
And Intel got their ML path run on everything - the only one of its kind to date.
DLSS 1.x had garbage IQ, 5 years later that`s a very very low hurdle and nothing to brag about.

And again - Sony (and not just Sony - there are other image companies that did this) has been doing temporal image reconstruction a decade before DLSS was even a marketing name. Contrary to popular belief - these approaches didn't originate in games, and a lot of the progress we've seen in the last 15 years sits on decades of prior research in the space
Thanks for the history lesson, but we´ve all (I´m assuming it`s not just teens on this board) lived through that and all these solutions downright sucked in comparison to native resolution until ML joined the ring. ML is the difference and THE core factor in further advancements and NVIDIA can`t be beat in that regard currently be it in hogging the leading specialists or simple brute R&D budget....
it's not because AI was used to crack something that never worked before - it's a literal 'faster horses' example.
We disagree here.

Yeah I don’t get it either. All this hype and excitement, ready to splurge money just for…. Not having a gimped FSR and shit RDNA RT. Basically what the consoles should have been day 1. Minimum requirements at launch should be to not become a pixel soup with cross gen titles, it failed.

But when making a price list for a PC in the $800 range, don’t forget the extra cost of a windows key

Then add the monthly fees on consoles for online and these machines make even less sense than they ever did.

But Astrobot will be on PC 💯

I don’t think any exclusives will make a PC gamer budge now if all times since Sony opened the door. Time exclusive? Sure, but its easy to wait.
Easy to wait might work for some games, but there’s absolutely no way in hell I could wait 4 plus years for Last of us part 2 which still doesn’t have a release date.

Releasing the digital version 3 weeks before the disc version would be both a clever and dastardly move.

I want the disc version but FOMO and having to watch from the sidelines for those 3 weeks will be unbearable! I think many will succumb to buying the digital version (which will be better for Sony) who might otherwise have been buyers for the disc.

Supposedly a blog post will follow the presentation. But I expect a 30 second reveal with date and price.

Also, based on how previous posts were made, my guess is that it will be a tweet re-iterating date and price, along with the link to blog for more info on the specs, features, etc.

Yeah, kind of sucks. I would just get the disc drive and get the digital version.

Uh, I guess its a matter of tastes, but out of all the Sony games that came on PC, I was disappointed in almost all of them. Except Returnal, that game rules. But I'm not sure I would even jump on TLoU2 or Spider-man 2.

I'm way more interested in their less cinematic games. I would prefer for them to release Astrobot / Ico / Shadow of the Colossus / The Last Guardian / Gravity Rush 2 / and of fucking course Bloodborne.

The GTA 6 argument is legit though, that will sting. But I ain't buying a console for that. GTA 5 patience was worth it. It took PS3 → PS4 → PS5 to catch up to PC quality 🤷‍♂️

Swift factual tech announcement, then a State of Play weeks later, I guess.

Exactly. This is a condensed Road to PS5 Pro. No price announcements and no new games being shown. However I still think we will get side by side comparisons of first party games to illustrate thr tech as Cerny is talking.

Got any data to back this up? Because again - tech pundits collectively disagree - and there's no scientific studies I've seen conducted that could be empirically referenced for this.

DLSS 1.x had garbage IQ, 5 years later that`s a very very low hurdle and nothing to brag about.
It's more a point that spatial upscaling and AA has long been a dead-end (since MLAA days pretty much), and we now have something that performs it to a point where it's at least not an IQ detractor. I am personally not a fan of what it does to the image overall (though I concede it's an improvement over standard box filters) - but then again same could be said for 1001 other post-process filters that art-people swear by for the past 3 decades.

ML is the difference and THE core factor
We disagree here too.

Holy shit...I guess I was sleeping on the pre-order price for the 2TB XSX. Just looked it up and YUP the Galaxy Black version is $600...wtf.

I can't imagine how this talk went over at castle green at some point last year

Hey Phil it is true Playstation is moving forward with their Pro system likely priced around $600

Phil leans back in his chair at the round table "Any ideas?"

Some rando "Oh how about we put a skin on our current system thats not selling, increase the storage and launch about the same time with the same price and hope we trick people into thinking its a big upgrade as well?"

Probably the only Xbox that actually breaks even

For those that can't afford it outright, this may be an option for you - Klarna.

They give you either monthly payment installments as an option for direct debit every 2 weeks (4 payments total).

X1wZBS3.jpeg

Four payments for $205 for the disc version (that's after tax). That's four Switch Lites.

Then we`re obviously watching different sources. Literally the first search on YT brings up a DF IQ comparison video with the usual FSR<XESS<DLSS result. On top of it Xess just now got rid of the AA flickering with 1.3... and is still not as performant as DLSS despite not being an equal in IQ either....And we don´t even have to talk about FSR....

We disagree here too.
Happens. Nvidia`s R&D budget as well as the on-screen results disagree with you, though.

Or just spend $249 on the seagate expansion “card” and have ~3tb of total storage.

I guess they just don’t give a shit at this point and they are just forced to “look” competitive, even if it is just a price point comparison.

I understand their thinking (might be giving them too much credit) but the optics of a $449 next gen console vs a $649 next gen console does not look great.

imo this meeting is a flop if they don't show some unannounced game looking mindblowing (and will also look mindblowing on ps5 base/obsolete model)

Really hoping for some surprise(s), and at least confirmation of A.I. enhanced upscaling. Sony ought to be first to the console market to do that (unless Switch 2 gets out the gate first somehow), and it's really a big effing deal for a lot of reasons.
