Twitch going out of its way to promote "boob streamers" ??

This.

I don't see anything under following. Is it because I'm not actually "following" anyone that it can't generate any sort of results for me?

I'm practically never on Twitch but I follow 9 channels. Weird. I'd like to know if they recommend me boobies or not, because if they do, then I'd be pretty sure there's a boobie-bias goin' on.

A year or so ago they pretty much banned excessive skin on stream, seems they've laxed on that rule. I reckon in the next few months they'll start enforcing it again though.

I don't understand this. Why use sex to sell something totally unrelated? What does gaming on Twitch have to do with any of this? Same with Youtube personalities who do this, like that girl who "taught people Japanese" while she gave strategic shots of her cleavage wearing cat ears. WTF? There's porn sites for that. Get that shit outta here. It's a thinly veiled attempt at getting more views in the most base and primal manner possible and shouldn't even be allowed.

They're not using sex to sell, they're using erotic clothing. That's a big difference. And well, mostly they do it because it works. Maybe they don't have a good job and need the extra money, or, i don't know, maybe they like it or think that people wouldn't watch their channels if they didn't wear deep cut shirts or whatever. They're just getting on and doing their best like most of us, playing some Dota and talking with peeps.

Honestly Twitch should provide them a platform on their website, if they consider this kind of content so distinct from other kinds. Just egging on these women or uncomfortably waving their hands dismissively telling them to go away helps no one other than those who think Twitch should offer one kind of content and nothing else. I mean they probably make more money there than they would on other cam services like myfreecams or, uh, the rest.

Yeah the feature is screwed up. I can see why Bungie stuff is there since i've watched it but mainly I only watch mewnfarez (hots) and iRacing streams so..

lol.

It's a crime for women to wear tank tops? Especially in their own home?

I think it's pretty blatant where you're going for if you have a nearly top-down view from your webcam to your cleavage, some pretty obvious make up marks there to make the cleavage seem bigger and then end up having like 50% game 50% webcam.

There is nothing wrong with tank tops but I think the issue is the part of streamers who take it to extremes. I also think it's stupid to ban shirtless streaming for men but the control for women's streaming is still a bit off sometimes.

Considering women are historically and currently judged on their appearance and their self worth is forcibly tied to their appearance by culture you're basically victim blaming them if you judge them for doing this.

I'm mad that I can't let my nuts hang out on my Dark Souls stream. You have no idea how many subscribers I would have if I could just let my nuts do the talking.

Maybe I'm being stupid but where exactly is this "Based on your viewing history" section? I can't seem to find it on my Twitch.

*Edit: Adblock was blocking them. Now I see a lot of boobies.

Personally, I'd like cameras in general to be banned from Twitch. I'm watching you play games, so the game shouldn't take up less of the screen than you. Either that or say that your camera can only take up a small corner of the screen.

I would expect that the initial seeding of the historical video weights would be based off site wide popularity, and well, there you go.

Staggering to me how many people think that I or this thread had any intention of shaming girls for streaming in revealing clothing, or this being somehow a war on boobs. It's not. All I'm trying to do is point out how blatantly Twitch is promoting them to people who obviously don't want it

People choose to read and get offended by whatever they want, these days.

You bet your ass Twitch wants these streamers. IT's never going away as long as young girls know they can play games and be cute and get paid. The business model is really lame, but i don't have to participate anyway. Bothers me not.

No ones really judging them, we are talking about what Twitch is doing.

What is Twitch doing? The premise of this thread is that Twitch, though I cannot think of good reason, might be promoting "boob streamers". Isn't it much more reasonable to assume that Twitch just uses a (presumably) shitty and/or volatile recommendation algorithm? I've only gotten horrid recommendations from Spotify that most of the time have virtually nothing to do with what I listen to. They're not deliberately going out of their way to recommend me shitty music.

Exactly, live and let live, just don't show them to me on a page that should be dedicated solely to showing me only content that I've designated for myself to follow.

Well, based on what you said, Twitch is using a bad system. They are doing something wrong. Same effin thing.

Reminds me a lot of my TV watching days: when I don't like what I'm seeing, I switch the channel.

This seems hard for some people to do somehow. >.>

You can't "switch the channel" the promoted streamers show up smack dab in the middle of your "following" page, which is a list of all channels you follow, hosted channels and games that you follow. It's a big fat pandering promotion right in the middle of a list of things that are otherwise wholly curated by you.

Even some people that don't want to do it, and find the process to get ready to stream this way feel pressured to do it. In the last thread on this subject someone posted a video of a person that explained the process, and it seems like it sucks. Though I'm a guy that don't feel the need to wear make up, just throw on a shirt, and I'm ready to go anywhere. Oh that person talked about how uncomfortable those bras are, and some put them on very tight for more effect then stream for hours.

What can you do though, just stick up for yourself and don't follow the crowd. Be you, and if you are a twitch viewer, just don't click on them.

And yeah, if twitch is doing something fishy for more twitch.com hits, not cool.

The "Based on viewing history" section is nothing but irrelevant trash, this past week I've been getting nothing but WoW/Dota and boob cams. What streamers have I been watching to trigger this? Seagull (Overwatch), BabaYetu (Civ V), Kotti (Hitman) and a couple of small speedrunners that do RPGs/VNs. The sad thing is the recommended channels section in the left bar is usually great, listing Overwatch or niche game streamers that I have watched before.

Since I don't follow any twitch streamers I'm never on that page, still you're not on "those channels" anyway, for the free twitch service you get those "lame " thumbnails are a small price to pay.

Maybe a system that lets you agree or disagree with their recommendations should be in order.

It is one thing to say that their system sucks and another to imply that they are deliberately pushing "boob streamers", as OP implied. The entire premise is that this is a marketing ploy to push "teenage boys towards these boob streamers"? That seems very flimsy.

Recommendation systems are always problematic. They're not going to properly tweak things over night (and depending on the system it is simply not that easy), assuming that the system is actually (overall) bad. Even moreso if there is only very limited information for many users and a small set of widely popular channels. It's been years and all I get from Youtube or Spotify are shitty recommendations.

I can't comment on what Twitch recommends me, because I can't find any recommendations. I assume I need to follow someone to do that?
