Twitch vs Speedrun Community Drama (update: Twitch officially responds)

I've been wondering what the hell was happening, saw it all over twitter.

Twitch Support's page has been ridiculous during these. Straight up insulting service. Horror should absolutely be absolved of his power for this shit.

I have no idea what the whole point of banning everyone is but to be fair the first guy did insult the nightmare dude.

the average stream monster comment on twitch is more offensive than what was said. they should just ban the whole community!

Don't call them stream monsters. The SpeedRun community has its shitty side, but it's nowhere near as bad as the ones inside of competitive games. It's mostly just played out memes and Kappa.

Holy crap that emote. Man that's pretty messed up. By the way that isn't the one in question, click the imgur link and go down about half way. Btw what the hell is a furry and fursona? I just found out what a brony was so don't judge me.

This is confusing. Is it the one with the Nazi flag? Cause damn that is fucked up if that is the one in question.

Hahaha, what the fuck... Never change, internet drama.

Just curious, this Horror guy seems like a pretty bad mod, why would Twitch even want to keep him on 'staff', outrage or not?

People really got upset by that emote? The emote itself isn't inappropriate at all, though... to most it'd just be some furry shit, no?

I mean, I get it's based on this dude's underage (by how much?) boyfriend or whatever, but the emote itself is harmless-looking.

you're going to have to explain to me why it matters if an emote is underage, and why that little fox face is inappropriate.

I'm pretty sure it being "inappropriate" wasn't the issue.

A few of the more prominent streamers have supposedly had a hell of a time getting their personal (and therefore locked to one channel) emotes approved, but it seemed as if Night Light (the fox or whatever it is) was fast-tracked and made global (meaning it can be used all across Twitch no matter the channel) just because he and Horror were dating.

When Duke made a joke about it, he was banned. And from what I'm gathering, this isn't the first time Horror has abused his mod powers.

EDIT: To the best of my knowledge, this post is a better representation of the events that have transpired.

Twitch's zero tolerance policies really need a refresher. I mean IP bans with zero warnings or even a suspension is just so hardcore.

What the hell is up with the chat thing at Twitch. Is there a joke I'm not getting, or what? Because the times I've been there it's like nigh unreadable spam moving at lightning speeds. Maybe I need to see it in a non-competitive gaming light, because that was completely alien to me. Like if every Youtube user decided to comment on something all at once.

Making an emote from something linked directly to porn isn't exactly a good idea, furry or otherwise.

How can a friend find me when I am direct streaming from a PS4? He doesn't have a PS4. Does he go to Twitch and search my channel name? or the game im playing?

I have streamed before, but I want him to be able to find me.

I don't even think there's a policy for "twitch admins can perma IP ban you for any reason at any time".

I can't talk about this too much (we have a policy to not discuss moderation decisions publicly for privacy reasons), but do know that the entire situation is very seriously being looked into and is not being taken lightly. I'm hopeful for a positive outcome for all involved parties.

This sort of drama is pretty common on Twitch. But then again I'm pretty sure most viewers/players are in the 12-24 male demographic of whiny manchildren. Condolences to those who got banned.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I would hope so...

I think people have more of a problem with the fact that its completely unrelated to twitch or any of the steamers there.

What the OP doesn't say is that this all started when Horror took a speedrunner's sub-only emotes away without giving good reasons.

Meijiko's post from the community thread:

Some SRL drama going on right now. Werster, Peaches, Duke Bilgewater, and probably some others' accounts got banned.

I'll try to sum it up as best I can, for people interested.

cyghfer gets his twitch emotes removed. It was kind of expected, not a huge deal, but still lame anyway. He had a metal slime, afro ken, and some sleeping creature I'm unfamiliar with (maybe from Gimmick?). People reasonably upset. For those who don't know, cyghfer is very well-respected within the community. He responded in a respectful manner. Not a huge deal, but people started making some comments towards Horror, especially in regards to his lack of research before removing emotes.

Then Horror (admin for Twitch) adds a global emote of his boyfriend's fursona. People are pretty upset by this, as it's pure cronyism, and has very little to do with gaming.

This image gives a nice amount of screenshots and information regarding this..

People take the emotes really seriously(I don't really get it either). A lot of them are given when you subscribe to a certain channel so people make them around strict guidelines. The issue is they have a HELL of a time actually getting them unless they're a huge channel.

What Horror did was make a site wide emote anyone could use specifically for his boyfriend, who has a small channel. It's abuse of his power to do this, but to snowball the effect Cyghfer had ALL of his emotes removed because they were using inappropriate stuff. People sourced back this new emote Horror had and it led to inappropriate furry porn.

That's relieving to hear. Thanks for posting Jared.

Removing horror and telling the other admins to not deal out ip bans to any and every person/streamer who dares to question what's going on, is probably a good start

That's good to hear man. Hopefully everything turns out okay.

I wonder what Horror has to be doing for the site to not get kicked out for this kind of behavior. He's always been like this, but they never reprimand him in any way. Twitch is completely in the wrong here, people just making streams pointing out Horror's actions are told to change their title, remove pictures and text, and even change games for inciting hate speech. Are you for real, Twitch?

Sorry, but I'm going to be very skeptical due to the actions of Jasonzm. As bad as Horror's stuff is, and it is, the jasonmz posts are just so much worse. That his boss is willingly ok with these actions. Because it comes off as 'fuck you, staff's always right.' Cheers all.

As weird as it is to say, and it's part of why I like twitch, it's got the small message board type vibe. It comes off as incredibly unprofessional which might have been excusable(disagree) in the past, but it's a global thing now. It can't have stuff like this happening.

It isn't that one. I don't wanna post it cause it's pretty messed up. Ill just describe where it's located.

it's right below the clothoTheMage's last twitter post. The one with Lurks twitter post. Yeah, I am serious btw. It's pretty messed up.

Yep, He should just be able to go to your channel name on Twitch.

Seems like some professionalism is needed all around. Get that abusive mod out of there and make sure these streamers respect twitch staff.

The source of the picture is from a furry porn and the person that it represents is underage.

Clarification request: So the actual boyfriend that the character represents is, in reality, not an adult? It's not just that their fantasy character was depicted as underage?
