Ubisoft is turning Watch Dogs into a “cybermystery” cartoon for tweens

Beyond the Colors of Time
Ubisoft has announced plans for an array of animated adaptations of some of its biggest franchises. It seems that the idea is to bring those games to new audiences, because some of the shows seem to be massive departures from those established IPs – we’ve got everything from a Far Cry: Blood Dragon adaptation from the producer of Netflix’s Castlevania to a cartoon that’ll turn Watch Dogs family-friendly.

Watch Dogs will be toned down from its M-rated origins to a “cybermystery” cartoon aimed at tween viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is currently untitled, but the concept art you can see above certainly suggests a massive departure from the source material.

Producer Adi Shankar is heading up Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Vibe, based on the 80s-style neon-soaked Far Cry 3 expansion. (This one is apparently aimed at “young adults.”) The Blood Dragon show is set to be part of a “multiverse” that brings in other Ubisoft IP. We’re also apparently getting an animated sketch comedy more broadly about gaming.

When it comes to shows that make sense and have not left me blinking blankly at my screen, there’ll also be cartoons based on Rayman and Ubisoft’s mobile title, Hungry Shark, as well as a Rabbids Invasion special that follows up on the TV series by bringing the rascally lagomorphs to Mars.

I think it makes a ton of sense. Kids spend their parents money, and parents are always willing to spend money to shut up their kids. Ubisoft loves money. Now, kids love "Dogs". Kids also love to "Watch" screens. I mean their spines are curving so unnaturally that eventually our species will return to quadrupedal movement. They would love to "Watch Dogs" on these screens, but the internet already provides a vast assortment of canine pictures and movies basically free, market cornered, no money for Ubi. This is really the next best thing. I mean it's a hell of a lot easier than making a decent game.

I remember a time when Ubisoft were a pretty decent developer. They're just full of shit these days.

Why would somebody go through so much effort to commit career suicide? They could just quit...

Eh corprate will continue to be run by people who can't read the market, buuuuuut what would i know maybe they did their market research and this may turn out to be a hit? I mean i have no idea who still buys Just Dance on Wii/WiiU in 2000+19 and it must be quite a lot of people for Ubisoft to feature it every single year at E3.

How can Ubisoft at the same time produce some of the best music, characters, themes and visual design in the likes of Blood Dragon or Far Cry 5, and then shill and release shit like this, New Dawn or Breakpoint is beyond me. It's like they are struggling with themselves.

I wondered for a second if this was some kind of joke or parody.

Big studio gaming franchises have become a shitshow in general. Everywhere I turn I wonder if I'm in the twilight zone. If it was like this when I was a teenager, I'd probably be depressed. Now I just gawk wide-eyed in bewilderment.

No wonder my current GOTY is a Game Boy title from 1993.

Every time Ubisoft expands the Watch_Dogs franchise, Aiden Pearce, Jordi Chen and the rest of Watch_Dogs 1 look better and better in hindsight.

Fuck that Watch_Dogs crap.
BLOOD DRAGON, SON!

That game was too good to be true.

OT: I kinda want this show be a huge hit just to see this thread and laugh just as much as I'm laughing right now. Not gonna keep my hopes up, but it would taste really good.

Please keep in mind the artwork and animation in the final show will look noticeably downgraded.

Nothing sure says gateway with kids into your drug, like having a tween show for a mature rated game.

Activision acting like a virtual drug dealer.
