Interesting that PS4's software sales are only ~30% higher than Xbone's (YTD). I wonder if that's the UK gap?

It's great to see YoY growth, there was a time when it wasn't looking too good with the market seemingly shrinking, but this puts that to rest...at least for now.

Nintendo is dead in the UK. Nothing short of a Wii-like lightning in a bottle or Pokemon level super hit is going to bring them back here.

So they won't be making a comeback. I think people underestimate just how negatively the Wii affected Nintendo. Sure it sold millions, but the software just wasn't there to capitalise on that base and I don't have any doubts that those who bought the Wii thought that was pretty much the standard for all Nintendo consoles going forward.

The U hasn't done much to show that's not entirely accurate...

Oh boy, that SFV vs Knack thing, so sad :(

Bundled software vs non bundled software. Not really a fair comparison, but there's no denying that SF5 bombed hard in the UK and pretty much everywhere else it seems.

Maybe they'll do better when it's content complete and they release a SE or something...

So the Xbone market share YTD is 77% of the PS4's market share, or about 3 games sold to every 4 PS4 games sold. If we assume the hardware ratio is not too dissimilar then we're looking about 1.3 : 1 in favour of the PS4 in MS's second-biggest market.

UK gap was always close [same as in US].

I found the figures. PS4 passed 3M mark in UK in january, while GfK reported that in january the total nextgen install base was 5.5M. So, Xbone was ~2.5M.

That's closer than I would have thought - surprised MS hasn't published a press release saying they're happy to have sold 2.5 mil in one of the biggest single markets in the west.

Why celebrate second place?

They've cleared a few milestones here and there, just like the U has, but it's pointless to make a big deal out of them when you're so far behind your competition WW...
