Given it only affects UK-based websites, I can't see this doing much. People will just go elsewhere. The only thing this will hurt is the UK porn industry (do we have one of those?).

We do but AFAIK it's on its knees thanks to the overwhelming amount of red tape it's been tied in. To be fair, the industry partially has itself to blame. It should have been fighting excessive regulation years ago, especially with regards to TV, but didn't as less regulation would have meant foreign companies being more interested in entering the UK market.

This would help absolutely god damn nobody... except, like, those groups of people who walk around with signs saying "ban porn it's really bad" or whatever. I mean, it won't help their cause, but it'll help them sleep at night, I guess.

This country is so fucking dumb sometimes. All it takes is for some people to say "no, you're being fucking idiots and this won't do shit", but where are they? They're in the private sector.

This seems like the kind of shit that happens when you run out of stuff you agree with your coalition partners about, but you sort of have to fill another year of parliament because you changed the time between elections to being fixed.

I doubt anything will actually come of it.

Killergram. It may not be great but dammit, it's British.

Oh, and Cathy Barry is from my neck of the woods. Lives on Cock Road if memory serves.

This does nothing to counter the fact that porn is everywhere on the mainstream internet. Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr are absolutely full of porn. Plus the fact that UK sites would just move hosting elsewhere. Oh no my precious .co.uk domain! Pls biritish government why does our TLD suck absolute balls. .uk or .gb would have been much better.

This isn't radical enough, the UK needs Porn ID cards to ensure not a single 17 year old can see a pair of titties without the governments permission

I dunno man

I saw plenty of real life titties by the age of 17, as did pretty much every other guy I knew (lost my virginity at 16)

they would have to basically ban girls from going to school or interacting with boys at all

I can understand where this is coming from. But this won't solve the problem.

We have a serious issue with youngsters sexting and getting pushed into more extreme sexual relationships at younger and younger ages. Young girls are getting bullied, blackmailed and guilted into sending explicit images of themselves to class mates etc. Kids are expecting girls to do engage in even more extreme sexual practices at even younger ages. All fuelled by what kids are seeing on porn sites.

It's a big issue that has been brewing slowly under the surface for some time now. Kids from ever younger ages are getting access to extremely explicit pornography and it is warping their perception of sex and the opposite gender.

The full repercussions of this behaviour is yet unknown. But what ever you think, the fact is young girls are been forced into sexting, explicit sexual acts and other far too adult behaviours is happening and it has been linked to high exposure to pornography.

This isn't just about the UK government perving on people who view porn. They are genuinely trying to tackle a serious issue which has never existed before.

no one is "forced" into anything like that. Certainly not from my experience in school (finished a levels in 2007).

what the government need to do is more sexual education and dropin clinics throughout the country, regardless of income, area or religion. stopping porn punishes adults. I mean fuck, I knew how to download porn through bittorrent when I was 15. NOTHING will EVER stop kids from getting hold of porn. Nothing.

The UK could always try something called parenting.

I feel there are much more pressing matters to be focusing on than teenagers watching porn.

I wonder if all those legislators still have the nude magazines they got a hold of when they were in middle-high school

They're so.....obsessed.

This government cares way too much about this topic matter.

Did they receive complaints from the electorate about this?
Like, do the people want these restrictions in place?

Are you fucking kidding me? Not only is your defence anecdotal. But you finished fucking school when I did ... 7 years ago.

Back in 2007 the iPhone hadn't even been released. Smartphones were pieces of shit which barely had a useable camera. Everything was mobile networked, pictures cost money to send, internet usability was shit and message sharing options like whatsapp, snapchat hadn't even been conceived.

The average broadband speed back then is slower than your mobile 3g. You can't possibly comprehend the difference.

Now you can send hundreds of photos for free, everyday, taken with high quality cameras, to people anywhere in the world. You have social networks, messaging apps, etc etc. Sending a picture is one of the easiest things to do now.

As for kids been pressured into pictures. I'm going to jump the gun, it's statically in my favour that you are a man. You're post history indicates this as well. No offence mate, but you ain't going to get nudie requests ...

As for the millions of young girls at school out there at the moment. The research clearly spells out a real issue.

Last May, a study by the NSPCC found that teenage girls are facing increasing pressure from friends and peers to provide sexually explicit pictures of themselves. It is known that over a third (38%) of young people have received an 'offensive or distressing sexual image via text or email' and a quarter (25%) have received an 'offensive sexual image . In October, the Internet Watch Foundation found that 88% of self-generated, sexually explicit online images and videos of young people identified by their Internet Content Analysts had been taken from their original location and uploaded onto other websites .

Six out of 10 teenagers say they have been asked for sexual images or videos, an NSPCC/ChildLine survey seen by the BBC's Newsnight programme suggests.

what the government need to do is more sexual education and dropin clinics throughout the country, regardless of income, area or religion. stopping porn punishes adults.

I agree, but it's 'technically' the parents responsibility to limit pornography access for their kids. We all know that most certainly isn't happening.

The government is seeing an issue and reacting to it. They are going about it wrong, but at least they are trying to do something.

I doubt it's just about porn, they want to fence and track the whole internet, this is a foot in the door.
