Then, like... this is basically nothing? I mean you hear peeps from China complain about VPNs being slow and a hassle. I guess high definition dicks will be out of the question for some.

I mean for a lot of things people will go "i can't be arsed getting on a vpn just for that, i'll just skip it". Mission accomplished.

Porn might be one of those things that make a lot of people starting to browse through a vpn though. And that also gives them access to all the other things the government didn't want them to have (like the pirate bay and stuff like that). Mission unaccomplished again.

Like you couldn't be bothered to get a ps4 until Uncharted came out, but now that you have it, there are plenty of stuff that previously came out that you might want to get your hands on.

I for one welcome our new British refugees. Here's Germany 101:

- you need a football team, go with the HSV for the most action
- learn a bit of German, even if most people should understand you just fine, we like it if you put in some effort
- no matter what they tell you, just say "Moin" when you want to greet someone
- if a Bavarian gentleman looks at you angrily after you said "Moin", follow up with "Ich mag Brötchen" and witness his Bavarian soul dying deep inside
- be nice to people
Bwhahahaha amazing :D

Teachers and parents. The parents have the most important role in this. I feel this is forgotten mostly and people just want to push this responsibility off to a school because it might be awkward to talk about. They should educate their child about these things. They should also monitor what their child is up to online to a certain point, so if they are looking at extreme things, you can have a talk about that.

That's true.

However, we are now living a transition phase where lots of kids have more knowledge of the internet and computers than what their parents can deal with.

When I was young, parents were basically totally oblivious about what we were doing with our computers. So basically in my days we were able to hide things way better than people today. But there weren't that many teens interested in computers back in the day. Even in the end of the 90s there were still huge amount of people who weren't interested in computers and internet at all. Today pretty much every kid has access to the internet. Granted, they don't necessarily have PCs to play with, as they have phones and tablets. The reality still is that the moms and dads are the majority of people from my youth who weren't dealing as much with computers and internet.

There seems to be lots of people who actually think kids don't have the knowledge to access porn on the internet when in reality it's easier than ever. Or they think they don't have the interest to look for it. Which is also wrong.

It's hard for the parents to control something they don't have even the basic knowledge of. And even with basic knowledge they are way behind their kids. And even if they are educated about the ways to control it, it could be they just aren't anymore able to learn it effectively enough.

EDIT:
I guess the only solution would be to make all porn accessible only by paying for it. But that will never ever ever never ever happen as the "free porn" sites rely on advertisement money, and ad money is easiest to get with porn.

Anything that restricts kids' access to porn is a good thing, imo.

Love seeing people rage at Cameron, though.

There was a time when porn could only be obtained by paying for it and guess what: kids still got their fix somehow. I sure did. There's always a friend/cousin that could get magazines and VHS tapes somehow and then it would made the rounds.

Locking down the internet would accomplish little: kids would just switch to sharing the stuff they got by using a VPN, pirate sites or from a older sibling through one of the many encrypted messaging apps available. Can't find porn? They can produce their own (which is becoming more and more common).

The only kids that wouldn't get it are the complete social shut ins, but those are likely to learn how to use a VPN on their own.

Look UK, it's just porn. There are bigger issues than teens masturbating to porn. Which isn't even an issue. I turned out alright.

Maybe the plan is to get kids super internet skills. If there is one motivation to learn something is the promise of boobs.

Blinded by the luminous glory that is David Bowie's physical manifestation.
That's not a disaster waiting to happen.

This. Unless the UK is gonna hire InfoSec pros to the what... 50+ Porn Sites all over the world: Fuck off, UK. It's not a solution without thousands of potential privacy issues.

I'm glad to see that conservatives are doing everything in their power to send the UK back to the Victorian era. What's next ? Chemical castration for homosexuals ?

So they admit their initial ISP blocking system doesn't work? You know the one where the bill payer adult has to allow access?

Now they're adding another method?

How can you keep adding things? Imagine they keep adding and adding then eventually they go for the kill and ban/criminalize VPNS.

At first they came after my ISP, but I had VPN
Then they came after porn sites but I had VPN. . .

The thing about this.. is that you usually have headlines like this come out when the Government is trying to bury something more controversial. Hold on tight boys.

Only applies to UK porn sites I assume. And who the fuck uses those?

And what, they will try and force ISPs to block every porn site IN THE WORLD if international sites refuse? LOL

I feel bad for the Brits here.

I've wondered when some hacker is hired to or by their own volition gather information on a famous person's porn habits. This law will just make our easier for everyone in a country to be exposed to this scenario.

Oh sure. I remember the time when paper recycling boxes (or whatever they are called in English language) had at least one porn magazine out of ten boxes. One scouting mission would most certainly guarantee at least one magazine.

And very often an underwear catalog would do the trick. Just find the page where you can see nipples through the bra, or pubic hair showing through the panties.

There is still a difference in having a lifetime worth of porn - from the whole spectrum of fetishes, from everything between gentle and rough as fuck porn - behind a couple of clicks, than to scout a magazine here and there or to have a cousin loan you a VHS tape from his "huge" 30 tape collection. Or to secretly record an xxx movie from a pay channel your dad had paid.

It's like comparing mixtape trading to full blown p2p 24/7 music piracy. Sure at core both are the same, but surely they are way different at least in scale.

Locking down the internet would accomplish little: kids would just switch to sharing the stuff they got by using a VPN, pirate sites or from a older sibling through one of the many encrypted messaging apps available. Well, at least the kids would have to be able to do that instead of having all readily available.

Anyways, this isn't about locking down the internet. It's just about having to prove your age. Then things would be available for those willing to see porn.

I don't quite get what people are afraid of. That it would somehow leak to others that you have proved your age to be able to watch porn? Or maybe it's a security issue because of having to give your credit card information? If so, how can they buy anything from the internet?

Which reminds me of an idea I've had:

Make an app where you'd see a new pair of boobs whenever you lose a bit of your weight. That would make the world healthy in no time!

That is a dumb opinion. Porn cannot be contained, it is on many popular sites. Reddit, Twitter, Instagram.

To restrict kids access to this porn Britain would remove itself from the Internet in a North Korean-esque firewall. Would that be a good thing?

Really expensive? I don't know your circumstances, but a provisional driving licence is £34.

From what I read (I could be wrong) all you need is a valid passport (and it doesn't have to be British) as a form of ID to apply for a drivers license. Your own embassy should be able to give you one and it shouldn't cost too much.

Imagine if an opposing parties' selling point is to undo these idiotic actions against porn. A porn-liberty day. That would mark a day in political history.
