Umihara Kawase Portable [PSP] Thread of Bugs and Tears

So Umihara Kawase Portable came out, and it seems that it's a buggy pile of shit. (For the unfamiliar, it's a port of an import-only PS1 game that was a cult hit and a sequel to a Super Famicom game.) Collision problems and physics problems abound. Fans are hopping mad. The game sold 1800 copies on the first day... out of 20,000 copies shipped. This thread is for laughing (and crying) at the sad product that Rocket Studio (http://www.rocketstd.co.jp/) pinched off.

Rope collision problems (watch as it fails to react to the platform completely):

More of the rope/platform collision bug:

Rope fails to attach to block:

Kawase gains and loses momentum mysteriously while hanging motionless:

Infinite rope!

Rope should break contact when being stretched by the rising platforms, but doesn't:

Rope gets stuck to vertical surfaces, making it difficult to swing up to a ledge:

Here's a page in Japanese illustrating the major known bugs:

Well shit, my copy is on its way and I hope it really isnt that bad. The PS1 game is amazing and I dont know anything about the SNES game, but yeah...PS1 game is really awesome. I already have a reason to be pissed off about this game and its because it held up my shipment of Bangaio Spirits (which I still havent got yet).

That's pathetic. Why didn't they just throw it on the PSN store?
and that would have solved it how? edit: sorry, didn't realize you meant the PS1 version

at this point the only way for this to get better is if someone picks it up for US release and rocket does some more work on it. buuut I won't hold my breath

Well that sucks. I was definately going to buy this. Also, the 9% sell through rate isn't likely going to motivate anyone to fix the problems.

It apparently works fine with popstation. Those bugs couldn't have been caused by emulation, so they must have ported it for whatever reason and did a really sloppy job.

Ya, PS1 version worked perfectly on my psp as far as I could tell.

I dunno, I played it for 20 minutes there and it seemed okay.
I do recall that a lot of the early bug-reports were based on a pre-release version.
Maybe they got fixed?
Doubtful, but possible.

What is this games series and why should we care if the latest version is a buggy mess?

Some of the videos look interesting, I'd be interested in looking at some of the earlier titles.

This game series is like the evolution of the grappling from Bionic Commando, but more of a platformer.

so far one plus I would give the PSP version is that the UMD art is cool.

I hate the new perspective of the levels
