Even if they'll pull 60 for UC4 I'm willing to bet that UC5 on the same PS4 will be 30 again. So why bother? Leave the 60 for the PS5 remaster.

I've been playing The Last of Us Remastered recently and I'd be totally fine with UC4 having visuals on par with it or only slightly better if it means keeping 60 FPS. Temporal resolution is important.

If you shout out statements like these...

None of those people are Rubin, Druckmann etc.
"We hope so," Gregory said. "It used to just be that first-person shooters were 60 by default, but a lot of other games didn't feel the need for it. I think we're showing that it does make a difference even in a non-FPS type game."

"There was an internal debate just over the artistic-ness of going 30 or 60, and whether or not it would feel weird. Pretty much every person who had said, 'I'm a 30 Hz person, I don't know if I could play it at 60.' When they finally saw it, they said, 'Nevermind, I'm convinced.' "
I'm curious what this alternate reality they're in where just 60FPS games were shooters when you consider the 3 or 4 big FPS games of last gen, only one of them was 60FPS. They're also here comparing the 30Hz and 60Hz of the same game that naturally will not be pushing boundaries in the way UC4 is expected too - this has already been backed up with the comments in OPM.
and you don't make it your new design philosophy afterwards, you are a hypocrit. They were lieing back then or lieing now, decide for yourself.

I mean are you fucking kidding me? They sure as fuck know exactly what 60FPS brings to the table and all what happened is that in some management meeting guys in suits decided that being "graphical leader" is way more important than gameplay. "It's our USP and we are afraid to loose it."

That is all that is happening. It's ok to choose graphics over gameplay. Just don't pretend that you don't. Just stop spewing bullshit like "not hurting gameplay by trying to reach 60FPS". Just stop.
Which is the point I'm getting at.

It doesn't make them hypocrites as the people being interviewed are not the ones who'll have a majority say in where the game goes.

Nice corporate defending. Maybe ND should just look out a wee better who says what. Anyway, even without any context given, the statement to maybe not go 60FPS because of "gameplay reasons" is hypocritical. They could always hit 60FPS by reducing graphical detail. More complex gameplay was done on less capable systems. If Uncharted runs at 30FPS in the end, there is only one reason for that: Valuing graphics more than gameplay. Just come out and say that and everything is in line. Hell, it's even what reviewers and 90% of gamers expect from ND. So why are they fucking around with it so much.

Not surprising as they haven't stated otherwise. NeoGAF just jumps to conclusions all the time.

uc4 sounds great. They seem to be keeping the linear narrative which makes their stories so good while also introducing more freedon like tlou. Yes they might not achieve order level of graphics but thats k given the more expansive gameplay elemnts they are going for.

Everything about this game so far sounds great. Plus its ND. Even their "dissapointing/bad" games are very good. And their "good" ones are GOTG contenders :)

Care to give a like for like example of that?

Are you kidding me? What is so overly complex of the gameplay shown up until now that you believe it's the most demanding game regarding AI, phsyics and whatnot which could make the framerate tank. It doesn't even seem to be more complex than Uncharted 1-3, just that the areas are a bit more open. Then again, we saw wide arenas in JAK. The joke is, that they probably don't even want to make the gameplay complex. Easy and hand holding it has to be so that it doesn't loose it's mass appeal.

It's a shooter. More responsive controls matter.

So does larger draw distance, better visbility, and the option of having more characters on screen. It works both ways. Responsiveness isn't the end all - be all, especially in SP affairs.

Stop deflecting and answer the question. You made the claim that "More complex gameplay was done on less capable systems" (at 60fps) and I don't think you can back that up.

Very please they are emphasising openness with the level design. 30 fps is what I expteced, more is a bonus but I won't be bothered really if they don't hit 69. Would be nice for multiplayer though.

What's this about different textures used in cutscenes? If they're realtime, why can't they use the same textures for gameplay?

Cutscenes and gameplay have different hardware demands. Only needing to show canned animations with a pre-determined camera path frees up resources.

Do I have to freaking quit the Internet to avoid The Order spoilers?! Goddamit.

It's Naughty Dog. The same studio that made two of the best games of all time. Yet expectations are all over the place and I don't get it.

Well, this article doesn't exactly confirm the frame rate but if ND is still aiming for 60FPS, that's good. But if Uncharted 4 ends up being 30FPS, I'm fine with that too. Whether 30 or 60, we can all be sure that ND will still create one of the best looking games in the market, albeit a better looking one at 30FPS. Why can't people on the Internet just calm down and wait for the game to release? Don't quote me on this, but I'm confident that lots of crow will be served at E3 when a new trailer is released. Seriously though, how can people be disappointed when the character model looks like this:

This is the best looking character model in video games IMO.
Someone please inform me if the link for this image is against the ToS
Did you read the OP? this is not the in-game model which is not on the same level of quality as the cut scene model according to ND.

I doubt they reach solid 60 fps. They are wizards but I dont think PS4 gives room for the ammout of wizardry needed for both graphical master piece and 60 fps.

Anyways, I'm fine with 30 and amazing graphics too.

they are taking uncharted off rails? Thank god.

Now if naughty dog would quit assuming it's players are retarded and remove the annoying "go here" colors, I might actually begin to like this studio.

While I think it perfectly fine if it stays at 30, if they can get it to 60 then great. However, if they do get it to 60 I can see the GAF posts now:

"Look guys, guys, GUYS...at 1:43 of this video it dropped a frame to 59... I can't deal with games that drop frames. SEE, we told you, Naughty Dog should have locked it at 30!!!!@!@."

He means good framerate improves gameplay. The way it's worded it sounds as if they say good framerate could get in the way of achieveing smooth gameplay.
I know what he meant. What ND person being interviewed meant is that if for example they have to nerf AI or enemy mobility or amounts, to achieve 60FPS, they won't do it. He's talking about gameplay aspects more meaningful than just visual smoothness/responsiveness.

They removed them in TLOU.

You claim that I'm deflecting, yet it is you not answering my question as well. But to give you your answer: My statement was rather pointed towards UC4 doing nothing out of the ordinary so far and certainly nothing we haven't seen before. So while I can't show you that one game, that does everything better at 60FPS, because that would be a claim out of the ass since I don't know the source codes of these games, I can tell you that I have seen plenty of games working more or less the same way as does UC4, running in a range from 30 to 60FPS.

And that statement is made without PC gaming in mind...

60 looks great, but if you don't have a direct comparison, it's easy enough to let it go.

I had played a ton of Dark Souls on the PC, and being able to switch back and forth with durante's patch makes 30fps look like shit.

That said, I've been playing Demon's Souls on PS3 recently, which is 30fps, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

Funny how that works.

In a very cinematic game like Uncharted, I don't think 30fps will feel bad.

I mean, I fully accept that 60fps is better, but 30fps can look and feel gorgeous anyway.

This Jak 3 openess sounds good. If they can stay uncharted, well that's swell.

The 60fps, EH I don't care. My eyes can tell both but I prefer dynamic AI enemies, fancy set pieces, little things like reactive grass, etc.

Probably, and that sucks. PC gaming has spoiled me.

I'm glad it hasn't spoiled me. I would be missing out on the industry's best games if I needed all the games I play to be at 60 fps.

I doubt they'll be able to achieve 60 fps without compromising elsewhere important, but as long as its 30 or above, I'm okay with it.

Hilarious. They're "aiming" for it?

Here's a solution: prioritize gameplay over graphics. Turn down some settings and hit that locked 60.

I know they wont, but they should come out and say that 60fps isn't their focus and instead of bullshitting.

How do you know they are bullshting. There were a ton of people convinced TLOUR was not going to be 60 fps because no footage was shown. Look how that turned out.

No. They are aiming for it. And this is correct. It isn't just some on and off switch. It's a balance, a give and take, trial and error.

They need to make the game they want to make, at the fidelity level they want to reach to get across the art and immersion, whilst maintaining as high a Framerate as possible, and see where the game falls.

Titanfall made 60 FPS it's absolute priority over everything else, and ended up with absolute shit graphics and still didn't hit anywhere close to a stable 60.

I doubt they can hit 60fps....ND said it would be damn hard to hit that target!
I would be fine with the solution like in TLoU.....60fps with worse graphics (shadows) or 30 and better graphics.

I would choose 30fps in a heartbeat!

What if they can't just 'turn down settings' but instead have to turn down things like game world interactivity, enemy AI or amounts, or other such computationally related things that are directly related to gameplay aspects?

That is completely false.

The color yellow shows you the way throughout. I'm playing through the game now.
Ha, I never even noticed. There must be some places where it's not used, I'm almost convinced of it. Or at least it's integrated far more subtly than it was in Uncharted games.

Finally is reconfirmed texture quality that would have a resolution four-times better than the previous chapter, and there will be differences between the texture of the characters shown in the cut-scenes (that even in this chapter will be shot with the game graphics) and and the textures in-gaming.

This almost reads like a misquote. I can't imagine ND admitting this on OPM much before release, even if it were real. If anything, they have been saying the exact opposite in all their presentations. May be this website typed "will be differences" instead of "will be no differences"

God, the more I read about UC4, the less excited I am... :-(

Sandbox elements? Openness? That's not an Uncharted I want ;_;

It will still be a linear game with amazing setpieces, it just will have more opened areas for diverse combat scenarios.

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I'm okay with 30 fps and top notch graphics (all the bells and whistles).

I'm talking about these bells and whistles:
What if they can't just 'turn down settings' but instead have to turn down things like game world interactivity, enemy AI or amounts, or other such computationally related things that are directly related to gameplay aspects?

Well that would mean they aren't trying hard enough, some devs care, others don't.

this is a referential post, not serious

Jak 3 openess?.....woooooooooooh
Ok, Im not a fan of Uncharted (I like the puzzles though and some of the shooting scenes)...and linearity has ben my biggest complaint. Open world platforming sounds great, just tell me they are adding a hold button to grab and Im gunna be on board the hype train.

Make it 30 please!! You can't get 60 on console without major visual, AI sacrifices and who knows what else.

I know you are reading this Naughty Dog. The biggest complainers are not your core fans.
