Here we go again...?

This seems almost oxymoronic.

It's not. A game is not all about gameplay, gameplay is not all about fps. Uncharted is a very solid TPS but it's also crazy playable set pieces and stunning visuals and if they can't achieve what they want at 60, they'll do it at 30.
Man I swear, if I notice that ND makes sacrifices to the "Uncharted formula" just to make happy these "60fps or nothing" individuals, I'll be very disappointed. Enough of devs tha listen to the wrong people, please.

Finally is reconfirmed texture quality that would have a resolution four-times better than the previous chapter, and there will be differences between the texture of the characters shown in the cut-scenes (that even in this chapter will be shot with the game graphics) and and the textures in-gaming
Confusing

ND has said multiple times that cutscenes are realtime to the point that if you get mud on Drake in gameplay you'll see it in the cutscenes.

Jak 3 openess?.....woooooooooooh
Ok, Im not a fan of Uncharted (I like the puzzles though and some of the shooting scenes)...and linearity has ben my biggest complaint. Open world platforming sounds great, just tell me they are adding a hold button to grab and Im gunna be on board the hype train.

Can't wait for all the fake rage about Uncharted 4 not being as open as Jak 3. Learn how to read people.

Well, this article doesn't exactly confirm the frame rate but if ND is still aiming for 60FPS, that's good. But if Uncharted 4 ends up being 30FPS, I'm fine with that too. Whether 30 or 60, we can all be sure that ND will still create one of the best looking games in the market, albeit a better looking one at 30FPS. Why can't people on the Internet just calm down and wait for the game to release? Don't quote me on this, but I'm confident that lots of crow will be served at E3 when a new trailer is released. Seriously though, how can people be disappointed when the character model looks like this:

This is the best looking character model in video games IMO.
Someone please inform me if the link for this image is against the ToS
I think this is the gameplay model at the moment:

It would be awesome if they could hit 60fps with the fidelity they want. I'm not holding my breath though, I'd be personally content with 30fps. 60fps simply plays better, so that would be neat, but I like eye candy and visual fidelity.

Are you kidding me? What is so overly complex of the gameplay shown up until now that you believe it's the most demanding game regarding AI, phsyics and whatnot which could make the framerate tank. It doesn't even seem to be more complex than Uncharted 1-3, just that the areas are a bit more open. Then again, we saw wide arenas in JAK. The joke is, that they probably don't even want to make the gameplay complex. Easy and hand holding it has to be so that it doesn't loose it's mass appeal.

Yeah, easy and hand holding like TLoU

It's ND..they can do whatever the hell they want. I have a lot of trust in them as a developer. Can't wait for it to come

My only concern is if they try to make this anything like the new Tomb Raider games as in follow the so called 'open world' gameplay it had which imho was boring as hell.

The lack of faith in the Naughty Gods in this thread is severely disappointing. If ND is saying they want to hit 60 (and are running 30+ this far from release!), then they will hit it. They wrung every last bit of power out of the PS3, and they were much more prepared for PS4.

It will be 60

What if they can't just 'turn down settings' but instead have to turn down things like game world interactivity, enemy AI or amounts, or other such computationally related things that are directly related to gameplay aspects?

enemy AI and world interactivity? Unless Uncharted 4 is a drastic departure from the prior three games in the series you aren't going to have to worry about those.

It would look better at 30fps and most people are fine with that.

Please no.

I'd rather have top-tier graphical magic instead of 60fps.

Or at least have a 30fps option with better graphics.

Or maybe it would look the same as ND wants it to look at 60. Personally I think 60fps LOOKS better. TLOU and Ground Zeroes cutscenes look amazing on PS4 because of 60fps. Games should be trying to look more like reality, not film. 60fps looks way more realistic than 30.

I really hope they hit 60. I was playing some The Last of Us mutliplayer last night with perfect 60 and it was...

And once again discussions about framerate overshadow news about the actual content of the game.

Open Uncharted is definitely not something that I feel like I needed, but a central hub like area, almost like an Arkham Asylum type structure for a section of the game would be welcome.

It can be 1080p and 60fps, but it will not have the visuals people are expecting. It's that simple.

They can choose to alienate their core fans to appease PC enthusiasts, but it is the wrong move.

the teaser being as good looking as it was and 60fps gives me the idea that THAT is what they were aiming the entire game to look like.

60fps would be a great welcome addition to the uncharted series, but i'd rather see benchmark graphics.

Not possible. PS4 isn't a PC.

Do you work for ICE team or something? You have no clue what the PS4 is capable of. Does your PC have 6 gigs of GDDR5 ready to go? Or an APU+memory with high enough bandwidth to allow the GPU to do intensive processing tasks? How many cores does your PC CPU have?

Basically, you have no clue what the PS4 is capable of. The only people who do know are busy making UC4. No one thought the PS3 could push graphics like TLOU until Naughty Dog made TLOU. So take your "not possible" and "alienate the core fanbase" and rethink them because you really dont know what youre talking about.

It's a basic fact that that they can push more graphical effects at 30fp vs 60fps. Regardless of how good it looks at 60fps it would look better at 30fps. I would love to be proven wrong, but their comments so far don't refute what I'm saying.

There is no option to turn it off. I'm amazed you didn't notice, as TLOU is follow the yellow brick road.

Yeah "follow the yellow brick road" is what I keep saying to me girlfriend who is currently trying to play through the game. I think it's relavtivley subtle, don't think I really noticed it until my 2nd playthrough (of 8). So I think it's a bit harsh to say they are doing it for "retards". I'm ALMOST certain my girlfriend is not retarded and she gets lost now and again, but mainly because she is a very casual gamer.

I feel like there must be a big internal debate at ND on what they're targeting framerate wise and that the answer keeps changing depending on who they ask.

I think the target audience for the last of us does not require a yellow brick road. I think it's kind of insulting. There are exceptions to the rule, obviously, such as casual gamers. It's just one of the many reasons I do not like naughty dog.

The sandbox aspect sounds great, but is finding out more about the plot the only incentive to explore?

Hilarious. They're "aiming" for it?

Here's a solution: prioritize gameplay over graphics. Turn down some settings and hit that locked 60.

I know they wont, but they should come out and say that 60fps isn't their focus and instead of bullshitting.

Well what would you call targeting a certain frame-rate on a working title that hasn't been optimized?

Also we need to clear something up. Frame-rate =/= gameplay. Those who claim otherwise will end up defending the gameplay of Shaq Fu on the Genesis. Sure frame-rate can improve gameplay, but it does not magically make bad gameplay good. What Naughty Dog is saying is that they do not want a high frame-rate to prevent them from achieving what they want on a fundamental gameplay level. If there is a tradeoff between their gameplay goals and technical performance, the priority is game first, performance second.

This almost reads like a misquote. I can't imagine ND admitting this on OPM much before release, even if it were real. If anything, they have been saying the exact opposite in all their presentations. May be this website typed "will be differences" instead of "will be no differences"

Exactly, that doesn't chime with what they said before. Also, texture differences of all things...

im supremely confident that ND will not be doing any downgrades from where we sit currently with the game's visuals...so the gameplay demo and the rveal trailer are what we have for a baseline for this game...we may not see improvements to that, but I have a feeling what they are doing now they have achieved a visual bar that they set for what they wanted the game to look like and are now going to optimize like crazy...if they hit a stable 60fps then thats what we will get....if not, then we will get a solid 30fps...

if they get REAL CLOSE to a solid 60fps you might see some sort of option like in TLoU where you can make the choice to play at 60fps with some lower quality assets...

all that being said...i feel at lest 90% certain that the game will be 30fps...and be the best looking game to date on consoles...

This whole 60 FPS thing is just going to end up shooting them in the foot, like it did the Driveclub team, if they end up reneging on their commitment to it.

You dont get 10million sales without enticing the casuals. They need their glowing arrows and listen mode, because stealth is hard guys.

Honestly as long as I can turn the handholding off, im fine. Grounded Mode was what the game should have been, but that would have sold maybe 3 million

there wont be any reneging on their part because they have never made any promises that the game would be 60fps...the only "commitment" they have made is that they are targeting 60fps...

obviously there is a level of visual fidelity they are also targeting, and if ND games of the previous generations (especially UC games) are anything to go buy, then their visual target is very important...so they are going to try to get to 60fps at a certain level of visual fidelity...if they cant do it, then so be it, the game will be 30fps...

One thing i do hope for however is that if they cant get it to 60fps (and its hovering in the 45-50 range...and they plan on just capping it at 30, then i hope they turn the wick up a little on some effects and assets as long as it remains above 30...

if the cutscene model assets are higher...then it's not realtime. In engine maybe but not realtime.

But I'm gonna need to see that article myself.

No...its still REALTIME...realtime just means what youre seeing is being rendered as it plays out on your screen...

it would be no different than a game using LOD (Level of Detail)...except in this case when you go to a cutscene you swap in assets that are of a higher quality...this in no way prohibits things like dirt, blood, specific items youre carrying, etc from being shown in the cutscenes...
