It's too bad the lighting in this photo it not good at showing off details and effects. Also the imgur compression is awful. :(
Yea, shot in not taken under ideal conditions.

But guys, It might look great, and it will look even better under better conditions (Once Gaf will get the game I expect glorious shots), but do you think it can look as good as this during gameplay:

Seems like cut scene model has better shaders at least, eyes looks better as well, and lightning during cut scene is obviously unmatched.
Still it looks beautiful, no complaints here.

Edit: never thought we get to the day people will spoil here on purpose, I really hope he is a troll and not speaking out of knowledge, I have a feeling he is, I can't see ND doing this kind of ending.

Anyway ban his ass.

Guys, of course it is.
Maybe he decided to get rid of his user and he doesn't give a fuck how many posts he has.

Still I'm sure it's not true, ND won't do that, they don't like those (don't read if you missed the most probably fake spoiler)
decisive "bottom line" endings, just like they didn't do it in TLOU, it won't happen here.

So far I've been spoiled in this thread that

Drake dies and there's a Crash easter egg.

How long until title is changed to: Unexpected Uncharted 4 spoilers thread? I'd say shut this shit down before it gets out of hand.
It already has.

I'm almost 100% sure the last spoiler is fake, obviously the other one is true, too bad, but at least it's just an Easter egg and not story related.

I do agree that at this point, it's not safe being here.

Well at least we have something now to looking forward to an all-digital future. No more leaks, no more assholes that can spoil us, no more robberies because of a video game and no more scalpers. Everyone gets the game when Sony/MS/Nintendo push the button globally. What a great time this will be. See ya in 2030.

i should clarify i don't know (since claiming the opposite is true would still be a spoiler i guess) but i'm sure he just wanted to make a joke.
Not a very good one, i'd argue...

(I think he should have been given the chance to come here and say he was joking. so that people can rest easy and not fear they have been spoiler)

(and then banned anyway)

Holy shit ! This is gameplay ? Seriously ?
Pretty obvious imo, does actually look worse than for example the Until Dawn close-ups (tho when those happened the framerate got hit hard so probably not a fair comparison) and much worse than the cutscenes. Those beard stubbles alone.

Bit difficult to judge without seeing it in a range of lighting conditions. Lighting can literally make all the difference. Case in point.

Scary looking

Did LD just get himself perma banned? Wow what an idiot.

Anyway are there anymore impressions?
I don't know the guy, but a perma would be a tad harsh. I'm fairly confident he was just joking. A very ill conceived joke no doubt. Or at least I hope….lol.

While that's true I wasn't the one saying that that shot looks as good as the cutscenes and I've yet to see any close-up that does, no matter the lighting. It's good enough, not planning to count his stubbles, but let's not exaggerate, the differences are blatant.

The burden of proof is kind of your side though (I agree on the lighting being toned down in gameplay. That is ubiquitous). Falsifiability and all that.

Take a simple thing, not lighting dependent in any way, like his beared, check out his beared in the cut scene shot in the previous page compared to the gameplay shot.

Be honest.

I suspect there's a darkening of the skin surrounding and behind the stubble that in other lighting makes it look fuller and more filled in. You can kind of see examples of how it might work based on other model grabs. Looking at these for example, all the individual stubble and eye brow hairs in this ideal lit cutscene model, do actually line up perfectly with the gameplay model too. I think mostly it's the lighting that's significantly different. The model itself is likely the same.

Here, without the stubble and additional passes, you can see the darkening I spoke of.

I have a question for all the thieves playing the game already.

Is square a default reload button or can you set it as such?

I agree that I think people are vastly exaggerating how "impressive" that closeup looks. It most definite looks like a gameplay model and we've seen that the gameplay model doesn't look as good as the cutscene ones for obvious reasons aside from lighting.

Naughty Dog are on record saying you can bind pretty much any of the game's commands however you like. You'll be able to set it whatever way.

I've been playing the Nathan Drake Collection, where reload is set to R1, and it is perfect. I'll be binding it to that.

Pretty sure the only reason the gameplay face doesn't look as good is because of lighting

It's confirmed the assets/models are identical across gameplay and cutscenes. It's just the shaders which get a massive downgrade in-game. The lighting detail/quality reduces massively, lightening the process-load a lot and making the models look far less detailed (it's actually just less/wider rays of light)

Where did you take the first shot from? It's not a gameplay shot so I don't get what does it prove.

If it suppose to show that this cut scene shot is the same than I think it failed in doing so, beared is also better detailed.

You can change the DS4 button layout to whatever you want for any game if I'm not mistaken. They added it a while back.

I think people should be upset if ingame Drake model really was the same as in cutscenes.
That would mean wasting tons of resources that would be much more useful elsewhere while playing.

I don't think the previous shot is sufficiently comparable, it is too zoomed out so I don't feel the assets can be accurately compared. However, the shot on this page, I am not so sure. The facial hair doesn't look that different to me zoomed in. The lighting makes a significant difference.

This doesn't make sense. No resources are being wasted because the model in-game is being rendered with far less detail, because the shaders are simpler/downgraded in gameplay.

The same model =/= the same load on memory, GPU, etc

No, because the game would still employ an LOD system. In other words it would only use the max quality model if your camera was right up super close. Otherwise it which switch between lower quality versions of the model depending on your camera distance from the character, enough that you could never tell.

I just matched it up in Photoshop. The beard and eyebrows are exactly the same. Even the white hairs, though very faint in the gameplay shot because of the lighting, all match up perfectly. The only differences I can tell are the eyelids and eye lashes.

I also got pretty used to it after playing through the NDC lately but at first I kept mashing the square button because that is a default button in many shooters I played. So if possible I'd like to keep the reload button at square for every game I play.

You can change the DS4 button layout to whatever you want for any game if I'm not mistaken. They added it a while back.
You can do that but then buttons switch functions while navigating the OS, not only for games.

FoxesSocks has just updated his progression and said that he's actually 16 hours into the game. He said that he took his time, explored, and searched for treasures. He's almost at the end based on the chapters count, but I won't say more.

Another guy claimed to have finished the game in about 11 hours. He said that he didn't explore much and haven't collected treasures and collectibles.

Both time don't count cutscenes.

11 hours without exploring, collecting and cutscenes is pretty damn good.
