It's the reason why I never finished 2, I laughed myself out of playing it during that reveal it was wow oh man

Yeah, I really like the post-modern subtext of making the player feel the game's theme directly through shitty filler content and repeated [EXTREME] levels in an unfinished endgame phase. Sad that Naughty Dog isn't as visionary as other game creators to make this happen.

I wish they didn't say this, because it means that everything that isn't the ending that doesn't come across as polished or well thought out is going to be extra scrutinized.

After Uncharted 3 totally wiffed its finale I am ok with that.

Seriously.
Uncharted 3 was going places then the last act just ditches most of it and you get the generic happy ending and all the bad stuff that has been building though the game is never mentioned. Was a let down.


Heck I would say the only reason we are getting Uncharted 4 at all was because of how they failed to give 3 any of the finality it was building towards.

Twist: Sully dies of natural causes. The final scene is a tasteful funeral. Drake says to Elena, while chewing an hor d'oeuvre, "You know Elena, our lives really are Uncharted." Fade to black.

Endings are always highly scrutinized by a subset of fans. Ultimately, whether the game is fun (and compares favorably to previous entries) will be much more important.

They're gonna pile pressure on themselves and the fans expectations will go sky high. The disappointment and ennui will be great if people keep talking things up so heavily.

Ignore the media hype, forget about the game, play the finished product with a clean perspective.

Wasn't sure where to post this but I thought you guys would be interested. Druckmann recently spoke to OPM and explained the philosophies behind Uncharted 4's set piece design.

"I guess our approach in the past has been go bigger" says Druckmann talking about uncharted 3. "But we felt with this one we felt like if we went any bigger, it would become comical; we would become a parody of ourselves. So it became really about how do we make them unique? How do we make them more playable?"

The part in bold makes me really excited. Similarly he talks about left behind and how those intimate set pieces such as the photobooth scene are just as exciting to him as the bombast and now there will be more room to breath between combat citing the Tenzin village in Uncharted 2 as well as left behind.

It vey well may be the last Naughty Dog Uncharted which I'm fine with, but the series will surely live on. The wait for spring will be hard.

Ew. I hated Uncharted 2's ending because of this. The game ended up going downhill as soon as they revealed that the Yeti were people in costumes. And don't even mention that awful boss fight.
Uncharted 3's end game was so much better than Uncharted 2's.

yes but at least the threads will be glorious, it will be like TLOU, in every "worst game of the gen" thread, someone will have to say UC4..... meanwhile people will say Tomb Raider is better cuz, you know, and so on and so on..... (edit - not saying TR won't be good)

But back OT, I feel like Druckman is gonna drop some bombs with that ending. Like the big setpiece everyone will talk about will be the closer of the game. I plan on lowering my expectations, just to be safe.

I hope they deliver.

I still think that U3 would have had a perfect ending if
at the very very end it was revealed that Sully had really died, it would have been AMAZING.
