Is it? How so?
Yes.
Very much what they showed today can’t be used in games yet... it is probably to the future... there are several limitations and lack of features.

Maybe when it got ready for games DLSS will be at 3.0? I don’t know... I just know what they showed today can’t be used as a DLSS replacement.

You will be better to stick with DLSS 2.0 for while.

None of the people in any of these threads have said the demo can't run on ps5. A big percent of the posters in these threads, have stated in the past that it couldn't run on Xbox or PC, or that it would only be able to do so with lowered quality. All of that was debunked. So I'm not sure where you get the "when tables turn" thing from. Majority of the times, it's the Sony warriors doubting anything outside of their console can do this, do that, etc.

who said it couldnt run on XBOX SX?

ninja already said it was using UE5 for hellblade 2 last year?

Again, have we seen the same demo from last year? Have we seen the end part of the first demo running today? No we didn’t.

Why do xbox fans constantly feel uncomfortable when they see the demo? Last years demo was created for the PS5. This demo is completely different.
We get tired of lies being peddled constantly.

this demo is 1080p with TMUU to 4K?
PS5 only demo was 1404p with TMUU to 4K? or i'm missing something?
The pixels counts was by DF. Can be they were wrong at the time and it was native 1080p too on ps5 presentation. They said to have big difficult to spot the native resolution and they presumed 1440p. Until it's unnoticeable who cares 🤷‍♂️

I answered this question in a previous thread like 2 weeks ago. Look in my history and you'll see where I quoted a few ppl saying that, even after Epic confirmed it would run on all platforms. I even quoted the ppl that said the demo wouldn't run on Xbox or PC/or have downgraded visuals a few posts up from here. You can even search GAF to find this as well.

Don't make this thread a console war. It's always a thing with the Sony crowd. I don't see Xbox/Nintendo gamers here talking about this in a competitive way.

In this thread or on this board??

Wow. A complete jab at Xbox gamers. This is the kind of shit that needs the ban hammer. You guys literally have 0 respect for the mods wishes. You don't care one bit that they have said over and over again to stop the console warring.

Yet you are doing jab at PS. You were banned for what here, watering flowers?

We get tired of lies being peddled constantly.

What lies? there is a different between a engine running on every system, cause it’s scalable and a demo specific created for a platform.

Epic is using PS to show their engine every gen. Only this time it looks like they are much more closer with working with the PS5 tech.

If you want lies, go read some nice Xbox tweets from last years.

I remember there were concerns that Nanite would only be used on static geometry, but the robot boss here was using it so that's nice to see. But it's probably still not meant for more deformable moving characters, I guess.

if that is laughable ,jus because you play gta with ultra realistic world textures, and skyrim modded , you're the laugh,... the detail , texture , lighting , detail , is staggering.

But I get what you're saying, you're generalizing ;)

Temporal Super Resolution: TSR is a new technique of upscaling a lower resolution frame to maximize performance and visual fidelity. AMD has worked closely with Epic to optimize TSR features on Radeon™ powered systems. A standard feature of UE5, TSR is enabled for all GPUs and provides state-of-the-art upscaling not just on PC, but on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, too.

Now that it runs on XSX and PC, it's not impressive anymore. Huge coincidence.

Well let say it wasn't claimed to cost as 1080p at the ps5 presentation but confirmed native 1440p. It's another interesting coincidence.

What’s a bit upsetting is, I honestly think they were bullshitting with the ps5 demo from last year. There’s absolutely a drop in pure numbers of elements on screen and I’m not savvy enough to really comment so maybe I’m wrong, but i deffo feel like there is something fishy going on here. Why wouldn’t they just release the flying demo if current hardware can actually run it the same?

unless I’m imagining the demo wrong...gonna go watch it.

I know with the last demo they said it was running off a PS5. Whether or not they were telling the truth is a different question.

yep, the documentation show a good 4-5 list of limitation for non statics content (for now)
i think we can expect lot of project in rock desert at some point !

No. That is FidelityFX Super Resolution. This is an epic developed solution, that AMD worked with them to optimize for their architectures. Maybe FSR will be similar though. It is not a DLSS alternative because DLSS uses AI and dedicated tensor cores. This may have similar end-goals, but still different. We don't know AMD's own specific solution yet.

Seems we aren't frequenting the same forum, because in this forum the amount of Sony fans claiming that the UE5 demo couldn't run on PC or Xbox without compromises was MASSIVE.

...So are the number of posts on this thread from people who just have to unload all the itoldyasos they've been saving up for a year on conversations that really didn't need to happen in the first place if we just listened to each other and could talk rationally.

Epic said it was built for next-gen that included X/S and PC as well as the PS5 it was demonstrated on, but they hadn't shown it on anything buy PS5 yet and there were some questions about how the tech would flex from machine to machine; now we've seen it and some can experiment with it, and the next phase of the learning can begin.

But first, I guess, everybody needs to finish their fight from May 2020...

looks great

don’t see any “downgrade”

but at the same time, nothing more impressive than what was shown last year so not quite as impactful...just more of the same

I'm disappointed that it's not a very exciting demo this time, I wanted more to thrill the gamer in me. (There also seem to be some performance issues in the video version that have me nervous...)

That said, this demo was certainly built to show off very specific aspects that Epic is promoting. The Nanite and Lumen, the new sound development system, and whatnot. It wasn't meant to blow gamers away so much as show what they're introducing with UE updates and UE5 in general. (That said, in the past, Epic has accomplished both with one demo, and it's been a year since the first, more expressive version ... this would be like if the second UE4 demo a year into the PS4/X1 lifecycle was still showing the Volcano Demon again) So no need for the collapsing walls as she flies about or the cave you can move the sunlight, because that's not what developers should focus on there. This is a demo of #1,2,3&4 of what UE5 can do, out of like 10,000 things in total.

The AI processing seems like a big waste of silicon as this seems to accomplish the same thing and without the DLSS style artifacts.

I'd like to know IF UE5 would have been presented firstly on series X at native 1440p and after showed on ps5 "at the resolution cost of the equivalent of 1080p" what the Xbox fans would have said about it :pie_thinking: Sometimes the reality is ironical. I already see the era thread title: ps5 hold back UE5 to 1080p?

For example, that first statue in the first demo was 33M (500 were placed in that room as well), and this massive giant is just 15M. The first demo was mostly an extreme stress test, this one is more "realistic" and the perception is overall similar.

Also that boss fight seems to have heavy FPS drops.

Even this one is still very hard to make with realistic game sizes.
What they're showing is still hundreds of millions of polygons on screen, the scope is just wider instead of compressed into a single scene.

at 2:15

Dev A: "I don't know how many exact polygons there are in the scene"
Dev B: "we have millions of instances actually in this environment, each individual asset that makes up the environment weighs in at around 2 million triangles"

The fact that people in this thread are insinuating that this is downgraded is hilarious to me. Now that it runs on PC, it ain't impressive anymore.

Nice. Any technique that "prolongs" a GPU's life is welcome. 🙂

Epic Dev: yeah so this is running on PC

PS fanboy: i knew it! because it looks like shit it can't even compete with that next gen amazing demo you tailormade for the blazing fast I/O of the PLAYSTATION 5

Epic Dev: wait a minute. we are actually running this on a PS5

PS fanboy: LOOKS AMAZING! only possible on playstation hardware i love you mark cerny.

average on PS5 2496x1404p with TAUU on only PS5 demo this demo it's 1080p with TSR probably TSR give better result even at lower native resolution though to me PS5 only demo looked a bit sharper but probably both are totally different techniques or are they same thing?

It's hard to talk when you are outnumbered like 1 to 20 and the level of discourse is constant Craig memes, dogpiling and the like.

But sorry if finally proving that Sony fans were full of shit and downright lying it's an inconvenience to you. Soon the few Xbox fans left will leave and then you wouldn't have to hear this inconvenient yearly itoldyasos anymore.

Epic said it it will even support mobile. Do some people think it was PS5 exclusive?

Stop the bullshit, at least for once.

People here were saying that no other system -not even PC- could run the UE5 like the PS5 because of the magic of the I/O, not that the UE5 wasn't going to be supported by every platform.

You really couldn't be unbanned for 5 seconds without making a turning a thread into being about PC vs PS5 and claiming everyone was saying things that one or two guys told you, Yes, we all knew UE5 wasn't PS5 exclusive hardware.
Lethal01, you have a warped sense of imagination about me. If I was starting something with that comment without mentioning anything specifically, the mods would have banned me as they did last week. However, the people who came out and *did* start up a PC vs. PS5 thread got banned. Sometimes, you really need to take a step back and ask yourself if every single time I post is geniune or not. Believe it or not, I do have decent conversation.

Back on topic because any further comments about this will be YOU causing the thread to be derailed by simply you accusing me of shit for no reason.

Well we don´t know the details yet so i think those people and us have to make silence and wait no? If they want to talk and say whatever they want let them do it. Don´t do the same as them. When Epic says somewhere PC, Xbox and PS5 runs exactly the same then all of us can talk about it and the PC or Xbox fans or whatever then they can say the I/O and SSD doesn't do anything and is all hype.

Yes, the whole previous demo was hundreds of billions (old on PS5), this is hundreds of millions (new). Maybe watch that old one again?

Doesn't make this demo shit, but it's just much smaller, but realistic storage-wise because that first demo was like an impossible task without a 10TB storage for games to realistically be made. That one Z-Brush statue is 33M in polygons (16,000M for 500 statues in the same room, not counting the rest of the details in the room), that gigantic alien is 15M even when being much larger.

It doesn't make it bad, relax.

Listen again carefully, in this old PS5 demo there are over HUNDREDS of BILLIONS of triangles crunched to 20 million triangles per 4.3 (1440p) million pixels. Yup, that would be probably a 600GB choking the whole PS5 storage. It's a stress test, really.

The new demo is more realistic and manageable. Also being rendered from 1080p vs 1440p on the older PS5 UE5 demo.

ZywyPL ZywyPL watch this.

Liked this demo so much more than last year's, mostly because it looks much more like an actual game rather than a script/cut-scene fest, and that dark-themed settings, OMG I love it, so atmospheric, someone please make a game with it!

The PC requirements are interesting, from what I understand it's the usual requirements for their editors, similar specs were required for UE4, but nevertheless, sounds like the engine doesn't use DirectStorage and RTX I/O yet, which are said to reduce the CPU usage for decompression to just half a core, but given Epic's and NV's close relationship I think it's just a matter of time.

I have some serious concerns regarding the engine unfortunately which temper my hype, specifically the file sizes and resolution upsampling, but more on that under below quotes.

And as always, I'd like to thank our local warriors for once again a good chunk of laughs, the narrative spins are as usual spot-on, last year the demo was only available on PS5 thanks to it's "stare of the art SSD and I/O", the "paradigm shift" they called it, some even went as far as claiming the PC games will look like they're set to Low now, and so on, and now the same people act like it wasn't them, that "every one knew the engine will run on PC and XB", "the engine was know to be scalable" etc., you guys have no shame and no honor really. Some are still desperately trying to downplay the today's demo, saying how the previous one was better (while being set in the exact same scenery using the exact same Quixel library assets), some are even claiming (without any data or evidence at all obviously) that the previous demo had 8K, uncompressed assets, and this one it just 4K and heavily compressed, while the guy in the demo literally just drags and drops a Quixel asset straight onto the scenery lmao, what are you guys smoking? Actually I know it's copium, why do I even ask...

Temporal Super Resolution 4k (1080p) 43FPS vs 4K native 18FPS

1080p

4K

Despite the 2048x1152 res of both pics, the difference is huge I'm afraid - switching between fullscreene pics on a 65" screen a.k.a. a real life scenario, the former screenshot is blurry as hell, looks like 1200-1400p, so far from 4K level of quality, but what's worse it's missing a lot of shadow details in the process, like it's low vs high, it makes the whole scene missing proper depth. So hopefully before the engine launches DLSS becomes more popular among the devs, or AMD's solution shows up in time with satisfying results, because Epic's solution simply doesn't cut it, even for consoles and their far viewing distance. Maybe from 1440p->4K it works better, but 1080p is too low.

China demo was the ps5 demo running on a video. Lmfao.

Yeah, they were watching that PS5 demo presentation on YT and someone from the audience asked how the same demo would run on a PC, and Epic guy provided the numbers and specs. People don't forget how to talk with each other while watching videos like Sweeney was implying.

...Or 100GB of data for one area and a short boss fight. Ouch! The final project would optimize assets, but if this were an actual game, that one scene would be a 2-disc set.

So just as I was afraid last yer, this number confirms that we can forget about that kind of level of details in games, a whole game looking like that would be in terabytes, so it ain't gonna happen, the artist will still have to cut down the polygons of their model because of the disk space restraints.

No should be different. I think in the previous presentation ps5 was upscaled via TAA to 4k where now this is the Fixed Resolution AMD which I guess reconstruct 4k from native 1080p? Just I guess. From what I remember developers confirmed 1440p via Twitter in response to the DF video but I could wrong.

Oh I do, it makes seeing the shit you constantly pull even more unbearable when I step back and see the full scope of it, I comment on a tiny fraction of your posts, when you're being sensible I leave you alone, I never acted like you posted anything but shit, that's just you imagining things.

I've already lost hope for this thread, but that's not all your fault, I'm off to test out UE5.
