Sometimes the most unexpected news will hit you in the oddest places. That was the case tonight as we sat merrily eating dinner with developers and journalists from around the industry at the Tengu Restaurant in Hollywood, California.

While we learned that any agreement Sony and Take Two entered into would not affect the upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV

It's just a rumor. They also mention it in the article.
This rumor was easy to start given what happened lately.

As with any news this interesting, we must affirm that we trust our sources, but that our sources do not constitute an official confirmation. PSU will report back to all of you when we have more.

Can't see that happening...Rockstar should stay where they are and rake in money from both Sony and MS, why limit themselves?

Please ban that site

PSU is the new *****. In cases like this, they're just looking for a good Digg spam and ad revenue.

Edit: Hah! Starts with an "S" and rhymes with "Pong!"

I'd consider MS more likely to buy them, seeing as they would probably be prepared to offer more money. Plus, John Davidson said on 1up Yours that with Take Two for sale next year, he thought that the GTA4 money was possibly a downpayment of sorts, good will gesture if TTwo were sold to let MS have them.

That said, probably best they're third party for now.

Not to mention that would mean that Take 2 would be selling off GTA which would be akin to putting a bullet into their heads.

I thought rockstar was simply a label and not an actual division within the company? Either way, if true, this is a bad acquisition, IMO.

Such a move would not make sense. Rockstar are a third party publisher, they make their money from creating games for multiple systems. If Sony (or MS) bought them out they would become a first party developer, greatly reducing the revenue the company brought in and any price Sony (or MS) paid for the developer would appear a massive over-evaluation for the company. And all this at time when SCEI are posting losses and cutting back on expenditure around their regional HQs. It makes no sense and is the wet dream of and brand loyalist website.

The only reason either company would buy out Rockstar is for the prestige of saying "we own GTA now lulz". In that case Sony/MS would be much better stalking out Rockstar North as their main acquisition. Even then, who in their right mind sells Rockstar North? Nobody, that's who.

Silly, silly news.
