Until mandatory HDD installs stop, I'm boycotting PS3 games (but not Blu-Ray)

I went out today to get Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on PS3 since I have the original on PS3 and noticed that it too wants 3gigs on the HDD.

Since DMC4 came out, it seems like every big PS3 game released wants to install to the HDD:

DMC4 - 5gigs
Lost Planet - 5gigs (shitty port too)
Hot Shots Golf - 4gigs
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - 3gigs (and the online play apparently doesn't even work!)

MLB08 says 2gig, but I don't know if that's optional or not.

Upcoming:
GT5 Prologue - 5gigs

The PS3 is NOT a PC. I should be able to grab a game off the shelf, put it in the system, and play it and not have it want to install itself like a PC game. Stuff like VF5 where the install is optional is OK.

Downloadable games that are not available on disc are naturally fine to install to the HDD. But forcing installs with console games is just turning the damn thing into a limited PC and if people keep buying the installable games and don't bitch companies will keep doing it.

If MGS4 requires a HDD install it'll be tough but I probably won't buy it. I'm tempted to trade in my PS3 DMC4 and get the 360 one just out of being pissed off over being forced to install games on a GAME CONSOLE that is not a PC.

Which means if it doesn't you will be buying it. Which renders this whole topic a lie.

ps3 has an upgradible hard drive and i'm not going to complain too much when developers use it.

ideally it would be optional, but people who complain about stuff like this are ridiculous

No. I didn't say ANYTHING about MGS4 on the 360. I said I probably won't buy it, and thus won't play it, if I have to INSTALL the game on my GAME CONSOLE.

Well, good luck with that. I'm sure your actions will go to the very top and stop any future HDD installs. That or you are going to be missing out on a bunch of games to make some point about console not being PCs.

LOL! WTF do you think they put it in there for in the first place? PSN titles are full-blown games and they run only off the HDD. But I don't think you're anymore serious about this than you were of supporting HD-DVD as a realistic competitor. PEACE.

Another overreaction by Manabyte, not surprised in the least.

Well X360 games magically installs into the RAM that's why none of them uses the hard drive. Buy more X360 games.

Until ManaByte stops crying and having male PMS periods about game installs, I will keep clubbing baby seals and punting toddlers.

Sincerely,

I'm so glad we finally got Manabyte's take on this whole HDD install issue. Now let's go to Ja Rule, and see what Ja has to say about this.

You can always delete old installs...

Yes and then if I ever want to go back and play DMC4 I have to wait 20 minutes while it re-installs. You shouldn't have to put up with that shit on a console. It just seems like ever since DMC4 it's been the cool thing for developers to do.

I am against utilizing all of the features of the platform that may result in a better gaming experience. I am especially concerned about HDD installs because 2.5" SATA drives are not getting any larger or cheaper, and it is really hard to upgrade my PS3 with a new drive if I'm still playing more than 20 games concurrently - somehow.

You know last night as I was struggling to hear the dialogue in Mass Effect over the deafening roar of the 360's DVD drive I thought to myself: "Man I wish I could just install this damn game on the hard drive..."
