Art Style:
Hand-drawn watercolor imagery creates a warm graphical motif, while blurred outlines, soft edges, hatching, and visual use of onomatopoeias create an enthralling and vibrant game world. The melded style of 3D graphics and still images allows the player to move freely around a world that appears to have come directly from an artist's sketchbook.

Battle System:
“BLiTZ” represents a fusion between strategy and action battle types in which the player is able to freely move their units around the map with tactical precision while being immersed in the real-time battlefield action unfolding around them. Sniping from rooftops, crafting well-placed ambushes, and scouting enemy positions will all help to create strategic opportunities and overcome the many challenges of each battle. Furthermore, you will be able to customize your very own squad to adapt to your particular playstyle. Ultimately, it combines elements from RPGs, RTS and TPS games.

Story:
Europa, 1930 EC, a continent divided. On one side, the Empire, renowned for its military might. On the other side, the Atlantic Federation. As both forces competed for control, war erupted, inevitably engulfing the entire continent in its aftermath. This was known as the Second Europan War. Gallia, a small principality lying between the borders of the Empire and the Federation, had struggled to maintain neutrality amidst the fighting, but that all ended when the Empire invaded.
Gallia's resistance stood no chance against the Empire's forces, but just as its capital was about to fall, the leader of the Gallian militia proposed a desperate tactic to catch the Empire by surprise. After the militia's successful operation, the Empire was forced to retreat...

The Eat European Imperial Alliance
At the outset of the 18th century, advances in ragnite-powered technology gave rise to an unprecedented industrial revolution throughout most of the eastern regions of Europa. However, as wealth accumulated, the existing autocratic rule tightened its grasp, leaving no room for a workers revolution. Nations' rulers built strong ties with one another through marriage, soon giving rise to the East Europan Imperial Alliance.
The old medieval traditions were difficult to sever ties with, and although the new constitution did not explicitly invoke an absolute ruler, the nations found themselves bowing before a newly appointed Emperor.
It is a conservative realm, holding dear to the customs and prejudices of ages past, including a deeply rooted mistrust of the Darcsens

K2xZyJq.png

The Atlantic Federation
Unlike the politics of the east, many other nations throughout Europa saw successful worker uprisings immediately following in the wake of industrial progress. This led to the formation of several modern republics, progressive in their ideologies. Their people saw the rise of the autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance and, feeling threatened, banded together to form the Atlantic Federation.
Although the Federation maintains an elected figurehead, the group of nations frequently have trouble agreeing on a unified stance on many issues. The Federation thus is forced to rely on secret treaties and aggressive diplomacy. It is because of the nations' plurality that the Federation has not proved victorious in war, despite amassing a military strength far superior to that of the Empire

The Principality of Gallia
A constitutional monarchy, whose capital city of Randgriz is named after the ancient hero of the War of the Valkyrur. It is believed that Randgriz himself founded the castle here, and for generations since, sovereign rule over the nation has been passed down through his bloodline.
Gallia possesses a large quantity of ragnite deposits, and its marine west-coast climate provides a reliable annual rainfall. It is a fertile land, ideal for dairy farming and agriculture, and the majority of its population makes their living through those chief industries.

Ignoring the lv up of engineers means passing one of the best early game buffs, the "All Defend" order. They are also extremely useful in certain missions, such as Rosies side episode, Hard skirmish 8 and a few others. All classes are useful, if you know how to use them.

When you get within your specific weapon's range of an enemy, the arrow over their head will change from gold to red. This is the difference between 7 shots to kill, and hundreds of shots to kill. This works for all weapons and items in the game, from rifles to grenades to mortars to healing items (friendly units in range of healing items will go from gold to blue).
Edit: Also, if you want to change the facing of a unit without using the stick and risk moving them or losing AP, turn the camera to face where you want the unit to face and tap the L2 button.

Character permadeath is very lenient in this game. It is not hard like (Classic) Fire Emblem.
After a unit is downed you have 3 (!) turns to run to their body and pick them up. Then they're safe.
If you finish a mission while a unit is downed on the ground, they're safe.
If the character that is downed is a main character in the story (Alicia, Rosie, Largo, Welkin, useless Shamrock guy) they won't permadie but you won't be able to use them for the rest of the mission and in most cases you'll lose a command point.

If the enemy touches the downed troop first then they permadie. So during your turn if someone gets knocked down in front of any enemies, you should prioritize rescuing them.

**Important Thread Reminder**
Where this is a remaster of a previously popular game, please be careful on story spoilers and make sure you use
spoiler tags
appropriately. There are many new players jumping in on the game for the first time, for multiple reasons, including: new Playstation family members, pure trophy hunters (no PS3 trophies), or they may just be finally setting time aside to play through what's said to be a great game.

Please be considerate and enjoy the experience everyone!

finished up Uc4 in two days, not really keen on playing it again on hard but maybe i will for mp

picking this up for sure at some point this week

I have my PS3 copy still (I'm looking at it right now as I post this) and I bought it on Steam for cheap last year (roughly £3 or something) thanks to Humble.

But damn fucking right I am excited to play this again on the Quadruple. I have so much love for this game. So, so, so much. I can't wait to get it again tomorrow.

Been resetting for an hour yesterday because the game won't give me the recruits I want!

Ted, Jann, Edy, Marina and the 2 cameo characters, that too much to ask :(

Stupidly, I traded in my copy of this game by accident. This game was in the case for a game I traded in and I didn't realize it till months after.

So I'm gonna have to get this now (and I guess I'll have to replay it too!)

Any tips for a newbie? I hear the scout class is quite overpowered. Anything overpowered is the way to go by my reckoning.

Learn to exploit enemy reload times when moving to areas where you're being fired upon, as well as the very simple sandbag/cover mechanic. Using these well keeps your dudes alive.

Alicia is the best scout, period. Her base accuracy and evasion rates put everyone else to shame, and when you finally unlock her full potential (heh), she is a peerless monster.

Always deploy your whole command team, AKA the dudes who have a golden medal next to their portraits (Welkin, Alicia, Largo, Rosie, +1 later on). Them being present on the field gives you more command points per turn. You can also save command points from one turn to another, up to the maximum of 20.

Learn to study enemy positions and status from the tactical map before committing to action. Pay particular attention to guys who are in cover, because just as it is with your guys, being in cover is 100% immunity VS critical hits, no matter what direction the attack is coming from. It doesn't matter if the shots are physically hitting the head, you will not get crits if the target is in cover.

Explosive attacks, direct lance hits and being run over by a tank both knock people out of cover and destroy cover, though the lance will only do one of these.

Upgrade your tanks accuracy over everything else.

You can save mid-mission.

Limited ammo attacks/weapons, like grenades, lances, mortars etc recharge at a rate of 1/ turn, unless you move to a camp, where you get a full refill, or unless you get an engineer to move and touch said character, whereupon you get an immediate refill.

Leveling up various classes opens up new potentials, the ingame traits that mechanically separate the individual members beside their slight HP differences and hidden stats. It is recommended to review your lineup when you unlock new potentials to the classes, because the scout who seems good at lv 5 might be worse in comparison on lv 15. Especially true upon unlocking the 4th class potential, which includes some crazy OP stuff on certain squad members.

All classes reach Elite status upon lv up to 11, unlocking new offensive options for some and increasing AP, thus granting more movement.

Capturing a camp does not actually demand killing all enemies within its borders, rather than just removing them. Learning to knock enemies outside the camp limits with 'nades is very, very handy in certain situations.

Killing everyone is never necessary, unless the objectives clearly demand such. Killing tanks and leaders gives you more income, but killing mooks can be counter-productive. Missions are completed via the objectives and actions supporting those objectives, not by head-shotting every fool that comes your way.

You can use the D-pad, instead of the stick, to get those small, final adjustments to your attempts at aiming for the head.

Considering that this is also 60 FPS like the PC version, Scout rushing might not work as well as it did on the 30 FPS PS3 version because interception fire is stronger. But from what I remember from my PC playthrough is that scouts are still pretty awesome.

Never played any of the Valkyria Chronicles games before. When the first game came out on PS3 I was not very interested in SRPG but now I play them. My copy from Best Buy should today. I heard this game is really good.

Gonna play this version ironman style, no grinding, no reloading saves, take whatever casualties happen

It's a huge deterrent to scout rushing too, feels like the way the game should be played

This is all good advice.

This will help anyone more than "lol scouts". In order to fully take advantage of Scouts anyways you have to do some unorthodox leveling and heavy save-reloading, both ways which are not fun to play.

This is a list of the mission types in the game. Be warned it has the number of chapters inside. Could be useful if you don't care about chapter number spoilers and want a recap of objectives.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I'll definitely be buying this (once they're done with the Steelbooks). Never quite finished the game on the PS3, and I've wanted to fix that for years.

I remember playing the demo for PS3 and wasn't into it. Don't really know why. At $30 i'm going to give it a try again. My taste have expanded since then anyway and i want to support these types of games.

Preordered! Got a $6 discount from Amazon because of their new prime discount. Pretty awesome. I never ended up finishing this on PS3, hopefully will get through it this time.

Is there anyway to get my PC save into this version? I kinda stopped playing 15hrs in due to some bugs. Was enjoying it otherwise.

Who were the OP snipers again? I remember they had black hair....Catherine maybe?

Catherine is fine early on, but Marina Wulfstan is the one and only ultimate sniper™ in the late game.

Worth playing for story, gameplay, or both?

Both, easily, unless the fact that some moments in the game are decidedly 'anime as fuck' is a total no-sell. It really is just a few scenes, but I have very high tolerance for such and I still cringed at one particular scene and rolled my eyes at two others.

Beside that, it is a nice, if simple war story with a likeable cast, excellent soundtrack and a good, unique tactical battle system with interesting real time elements mixed to the larger turn based element.

Damn I just bought this on PC and it's nearly finished downloading. I was under the impression that it was a good port. What kind of bugs did you experience?

I picked up the digital version at midnight. I really wanted a disc but the PSN version turned out to be much cheaper which was very surprising. ($24.95AUD PSN vs $39.95 retail) It also comes with 4 themes and an avatar pack on PSN as well. Australia didn't get the steelbook anyway so I'd rather take the cheaper price.

I think Marina was the fan favorite. I always used Emile because of the squad likes.

Ready to play this tomorrow for the 14th time. Crazy how this will be my most played game for 2 console generations.

Snipers are actually pretty weak in this game. But the best sniper is Emile if you know the full ins and outs of the Potentials system. Since it's no big deal (I can't think of any situations in the main game where eking out maximized damage with a Sniper is critical to strategy), any sniper will work, including the waifu you are describing, Marina.

its pretty easy just edit hex code, modify the raw disk and main memory RAM... duh

kidding i don't think its possible

For some reason I'm really pumped to play this game. Have I subconsciously bought into the GAF hype for this, or is there a really legit reason I'm so excited about this?

I know it's pretty much a WW2-esque/anime style Strat/RPG, but what else should I know about this game?
