Am I the only one who had a really tough time against this guy until I noticed the ladder on the left?

(Yes, I tested this myself with a copy of the original menu music -- it works. I'm just amazed I've never heard of anyone noticing this before...)

Wow, that's completely awesome. I love the GameCube, seriously one of the most underrated consoles ever.

I can see how people would logically come to the conclusion that they need to use the grapple beam since that's the world where you get it.

I'm more unthinking, I guess, so when I saw that the super missiles seemed to be working, I went with that. :)

Huh? Maybe I misunderstood, but the Grappling Beam is found in Norfair. Anyway, I sort of knew of the Grappling Beam trick because it was in the guide that came with the game (although it took me long to find it since I didn't know English very well back then), but I've never managed to do it for some reason, i found it hard; I've always beaten Draygon with missiles and charged beam.

Wow at the Gamecube menu theme! Great find!

Forgot how beautiful the GC menu music is.

Yeah, I have it on my iPod; it's really relaxing.

A million times better than the fucking beeping/ringing noises that passes for the Wii's menu "music". God, that's really annoying when you're in the menu for more than a minute.

The Gamecube menu music secret was a great find. This also reminded me that I had heard something with similar notes to the Gamecube menu theme before; the Ecco the Dolphin opening theme (but Gamecubes codename was Project Dolphin)
We're not going to find the FDS BIOS in that are we?

Here's an interesting "glitch" from Super Mario 64. Not mind-blowing. Kinda funny...

Reminds me of this one in Zelda TP (I guess 10 years won't fix some glitches):

Sorry for the poor quality but I couldn't find the original version of the video since the uploader (who found loads of Zelda TP glitches) raged (over something like someone plagiarising the early master sword method) and nuked their account.

Except it's not, as said before. The grappling beam is at the very bottom of Norfair, you couldn't place it more farther than Maridia.

If it's indeed in the game guide, I would more easily understand that it's so well known. I don't find this natural at all, I discovered it by luck. It's not so difficult to beat him normally.

How can you not notice the ladder?
That's like saying you had trouble with the first boss of Sonic 1 because you didn't notice the two platforms you can stand on.

In three years we'll discover that if you speed it up fifty times and play it backwards it'll turn out to be a Beethoven symphony.

I didn't notice the ladder either (until this thread just pointed it out for me). I beat the boss the hard way, diagonal aiming.

Ha, that's neat. You think he'd just jump back up, I'm surprised they didn't catch this.

Presumably he only does the check for if he's fallen off the world if he's just been thrown.

From the link posted a few pages back, so apologies if people have seen it, but the fact that the Goldenrod City gym has the flowerpots arranged in the shape of a Clefairy is too fucking much. How did I not see this?!

Sonic 2: Ever wonder why Metropollis Zone has 3 acts? Initially Act 3 was gonna be it's own one act zone entitled Genocide City, however the idea was scrapped and the level layout was given to Metropollis Zone makeover.

It was also confirmed that some of the ideas and graphics from genocide were used in spinball, area 4 machine stage. I think it was the 4th area with the purple-ish theme.

You mean The Showdown?

What ideas and assets could they possibly transfer from Sonic 2 to a pinball game?

It's hard to remember exactly where the info was found but somewhere on Sonic Retro, I guess it saved them some time if they could carry over some spare assets to get spinball out by christmas.

Some of the old sonic 2 level design drawings have concepts in them which match spinball, mostly the pipes sonic rolls around in.

http://info.sonicretro.org/Genocide_City
http://info.sonicretro.org/The_Machine

This level poportedly featured some recycled art taken from an unreleased Genesis game called B-Bomb. The level also featured unused art from Sonic the Hedgehog 2's lost level, Cyber City Zone, according to level designer Tom Payne.

I've seen a fan mock up of a completed Cyber City level, it's essentially Metropolis Zone 3 with a Sonic Spinball background, I don't know if they found some assets burried in a vault somewhere or if they took the Metropolis-meets-Spinball extremely litterally but yeah...

People didn't know about the Aquatic Ruin Zone raft?

Well, here's something that some may not know:

In Mushroom Hill Zone Act 2, at the last pulley lift thing before the boss, if you make it go up via the left lever, the ceiling of the room above it allows you to pass through via the spring path and obtain some shields.

Hmmmm.... I think I always knew that, about as much as any branching path. The fact that the pulley lift "pipe" continues to the top of the false ceiling encourages you to keep going upwards in the pulley.

Or wait... do you actually use the spring to get up there? In any case, the spring practically pushing you up there actually makes it more obvious....
