Volcanion - 721st Pokémon Officially Revealed

This so representative of everything that's wrong with modern Pokemon.

Well, I mean, in the 1st gen, we had an entire type that effectively had no weakness (Psychic) along with Gyarados not being Water/Dragon, Kangaskan not being Rock type, Nidoking/Queen being Ground/Poison (which isn't readily apparent). Starmie being Water/Psychic isn't obvious. How many people fought Misdreavous and though Psychic was super effective because they didn't know Gengar was weak to Psychic because of his poison typing? Who even knew what Ghost was weak to in Gen I? Cloyster is Water/Ice for some reason.

Let's not pretend the first gen didn't have strange typings that didn't make sense at first glance or had readily apparent weaknesses or resistances.

Type effectiveness and dual types have been around since day 1...
Literally the first Pokemon in the Pokedex is Grass/Poison. Which btw, isn't really an obvious combination for Bulbasaur either.

So what type combinations have we not seen yet?

How in the world is Bug/Dark not used yet lol. Of all the vile, gross, "evil" bugs in the real world...

Fire/Grass could be a fun Pokemon too. They could either take the idea of a forest fire and go with it, or even the concept of a poisonous plant that "burns" skin.

there's an electric/ice type? the more you know

Alternate form of Rotom

Rotom is an Electric/Ghost that can inhabit machines that have motors. Specifically Ovens, Fridges, Lawnmowers, Fans and Washing Machines. Secondary type changes to Fire, Ice, Grass, Flying and Water respectively.

No fan of the design, but not gonna preach the superiority of gen 1. Cuz gen 3 is the best designwise. And I love Hoopa's design. And Cinccino. And Pangoro. And Porygon Z. Heck, cool stuff everywhere.

I agree, and that's what I was hoping they do, but then there's a multitude of issues they have to account for at conception. Maybe next generation.

Hey, Joe, care to clarify the "issues at conception"? Curious as to what you mean.

Hey, Joe, care to clarify the "issues at conception"? Curious as to what you mean.

The game has to be coded in anticipation of it in case people get the Pokémon then delete the patch.

Provisions have to be made for compatibility with games that don't have it loaded too.

They can't just add them to the generation now, they have to have planned to do it that way from the outset. ORAS has some things that could be adapted into it, but yeah

Some of these seem like things we should totally have by now

Ice
Ice/Fire-Some kind of eternally melting creature with fire power would be cool

Electric
Electric/Psychic-No electric wizard or an electric demon with psychic powers or something along those lines yet...
Electric/Dark-LUXRAY WHY

Grass
Grass/Fire-GOURGEIST WHY

Fighting
Fighting/Electric-Also weird to think we don't have a super fast lightning based fighter.
Fighting/Ground-Or a fighter which fights using the earth around it-basically an earthbender

Psychic
Psychic/Poison-Surprised we don't have a poison wizard archetype pokemon yet

Bug
Bug/Ice-Are there bugs which live in very cold climates? If so base one off that.
Bug/Dragon-YANMEGA WHY
Bug/Dark-DRAPION WHY

Rock
Rock/Poison-We somehow don't have a corrupted golem monster pokemon.

Fairy
Fairy/Poison-How do you introduce a new fairy type and not have a corrupted/poisoned fairy?

Personally, I dislike the design. The newer pokemon designs seem to be going the Square Enix route with of overstylization. The most memorable designs have always been the simple ones.

I haven't looked at Volcanion since the initial leaks that were just standard res 3DS screens.
I like it better than I did then. Diancie and Hoopa are definitely better than Volcanion in terms of G6 mythicals.

That's some ugly as fuck design..

Miss the days Pokémon looked like animals and not like some aborted lab experiment, chair or car...

Wow, more than I thought. Which of those would be a really OP typing?

I actually have to agree with joe on this one. Pokémon designs have been rather consistent since its inception. There are about five to ten designs I absolutely love per generation, the vast majority are filler to me, and a dozen or so are memorably bad or stale. It's always been like that.

people love to pretend like gen I-III were this masterclass of fake animal/monster designs, rather than just having the few they remember the most fondly.

When will they announce the next game(s) ? Now that there is the movie called "XY&Z" and this legendary officialized...

Makes sense. Never thought of the possibility of deleting the patch...

I'd seriously love to peek at an alternate dimension where Voltorb/Electrode were released in a late gen.

I understand not liking the design direction of recent gens(tbh, not a big fan myself of some pokes from newer games, but there are also plenty of meh pokes from older games), but I don't get "they're out of ideas"

If we're gonna mention about lack of Ideas can we at least talk about the earlygame bird pokemon every gen and not the legendary pokemon with a new typing and strange donut...? lol

Hopefully we can actually get this one here in Canada.

Stupid McDonalds.

Change your WiFi SSID to "McDonalds Free WiFi" (exactly, without the quotes) and turn off the password. Your 3DS will be tricked into thinking you're actually at a McDonald's, and then you can get Hoopa via internet mystery gift on as many Pokemon games as you have.

If you don't have access to mess with your router settings I will give you my spare. (But only if there's no way, not if you're too scared to turn off wifi security for 5 minutes.)

Outdated.
Fire/Water, Dragon/Grass, Fairy/Dragon and Psychic/Ghost have since been used.

wait, what the hell is Fairy/Dragon? (EDIT: It's Mega Altaria. TIL)

Is there a place where you can read who the designers for different Pokémon are? Because it seems like you can tell the original designers apart based on the style.

Like, that Pokémon would actually look somewhat decent without the dumb water airtube bagel thing sticking out of it. The most memorable Pokémon are the one's that have simplicity in design. Instead with recent stuff we get something that looks like someone tried to mash as many 3D objects together in a weird way. Volcanion is a decent Pokémon name, why can't the design reinforce that fact?

I think his design is kinda cool when you realize that donut is actually a pair of "arms." I kinda wish his legs looked more like the donut arms though. It would cement the design.

I like it now after seeing its official art rather than the scan. The scan makes it look hilarious, now it looks like a fierce mecha shisha thing.

Also you guys are bad, the gen with Tyrantrum is the gen with the best designed mons.

They don't make em like they use to. :(

Impressive, ripping off Toriyama and looking shit at that!

Pokemon and Gaming always are a terrible combo.

This so representative of everything that's wrong with modern Pokemon.

que

Electric/Dark-LUXRAY WHY
Grass/Fire-GOURGEIST WHY
Bug/Dragon-YANMEGA WHY

I disagree on these notions.

Luxray doesn't need to be Dark just because it has dark fur.

Gourgeist doesn't really need to be Fire because it is a soul fruit.

And Bug/Dragon only works in English name. Remember only Japanese puns work! :P
