Walmart saves gaming - Order Walmart products directly inside of games.

You know you've all been playing Elden Ring and thought about how much you want some Great Value Pizza Pockets. How about if you could go up to an NPC and order them right there, in game, delivered to your door.

Unity x Walmart have saved the day

Gaming is back bois

This is one of these things where you know the dev team ran wild and nobody from the business side was consulted before they spent the time on this feature.

1. How will the checkout work?
2. What payment processor is involved?
3. How will you get over the fact of limited virtual space for your products?

My youngins out there, your gaming is going to suck.
No it's not because they will love this level of immersion they don't have a hate for corporate greed like we do 🥺

This will be awesome to them & the norm
They already tell Alexa to buy stuff for them as they walk through the house.

It wasn't fully in game though. Opening a browser breaks immersion. But ordering adult diapers directly in game is going to be amazing.

I always thought that was kind of cool. I think Papa John's did something similar at some point, or… maybe I'm making that up.

I think there's two big differences though: first, EverQuest is an MMO, so it's kiiiinda not about immersion and things like this feel a little less misplaced. Second, getting food delivered is actually useful - it doesn't smack of pointless in game advertising for shit you don't want or need.

Did everyone here forget about the /pizza command in EverQuest?
Wow, I totally did forget that. I suspect because it wasn't plastered all over so after the original announcement it, for me, just disappeared, or maybe I tuned it out? Who knows. Was that in EQ as well as EQ2? I was on 2 at that time.

And since this is EverQuest... Released in March of 1999, 32 expansions so far with the last one this past December. No game has received this kind of support.

Just make a Walmart Shopping Simulator.

You have a time limit and must run around the store fulling up your cart with items from a shopping list before time runs out.

Everytime you checkout and move the purchased items to the boot of your car the timer resets and you get a new list.

Add global leaderboards, achievements and a commerce SDK to floor your real-world yard with all the shite you've purchase in a special sandbox (no time limit) mode and you have GOTY right there bruh…

The most likely way this works is that it links to your existing Walmart account. At that point you can do something with one command like ordering from Alexa, because it already knows your address and default payment. Same as the "buy with one click" button.

They would probably show you products based on your history, even straight from the "reorder your items" on the website.

The product textures look like processed jpegs, they probably pull straight from the Web site and it's all automated.

Neat, any man who talks shit about Walmart is your natural enemy.

Hopefully creative monetisation stuff like this allows big publishers to be a little less risk averse and move big gaming out of this current hole of expensive boring shit and gutter-shilling.

Mad respect to EQ team for keeping it alive and supported. Wish the UO devs treated their game the same.

Also remember when you could order a Pizza Hut pizza directly from EQ2, I thought the future was here.

Good to see Walmart is bringing the future back!

Peak efficiency. Instead of mom bringing nuggies so I don't have to turn off my game Walmart is going to do it.

Now China/Korea Gamers will have no excuse dying without food and water. They could have ordered in game.
What a noble initiative.
