dafuq is that the Iron Maiden font?
aka Metal Lord Font

Why does this community and the discussion around the community have such a large presence? It's mind boggling. There's people that are really vocal about it and people that are really vocal about hating it which is just a silly waste of time. I saw a couple of episodes with my niece and I personally do not see the appeal of this, but to each their own.
I was surprised at how INTO this some people were at PAX. One guy took up too much time in the Q&A requesting that they draw a pony into the strip. But I usually cringe when anyone goes to the Q&A with their own schtick.

They should've offered the complainers a free lifesize Pinky Pie and then when the offended bronies came to collect, drag 'em round the back and throw 'em in a deep pit. Do us all a favour.

So why don't bronies like the 80s my little pony? Because it's a girls show and the new one is more of a general audience show?

Basically, yes

His head smashed in and his heart cut out and his liver removed and his bowels unplugged and his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off and his penis...

Well okay then.

I get the reference. Cute tag.

I gave it a chance. I was open minded.

All I have to say is that, Bronies are not worth defending. Let them wallow in their own filth.

What's the difference between MLP and the other show? To me they seem to be same show targetted at the same audience, 5 year old girls.

Fapping to ponies is terrible tbqh

With that said the current generation is much better in character because at least they don't look like flat characters. They're not well written though save for occasional few.

I believe there is also a quality issue.

Sunbow was a company specifically formed to make GI Joe and Transformers cartoons. Hasbro said "These are great! Now make one for girls." There's something fundamentally wrong with that approach. It was a roomful of manly-men trying to create a female stereotype. And as a result, girls were more interested in the My Little Pony toys than the cartoon.

When Hasbro tried again with Jem, they flagged down one of the female GI Joe writers, asked what they were doing wrong, and put her in charge of the show. This resulted in a better show that wasn't so misguided, a cartoon that was more popular than the toys, and the cartoon (made for girls, this time by a girl) even became popular with boys.

MLP:FIM's situation is closer to Jem's than MLP:G1. Lauren Faust is a top-notch creator.

There's a difference between a show for 5-year-old girls, a terrible show for 5-year-old girls, and a great show for 5-year-old girls.

I dont understand this shirt, or why Bronies are mad at it to begin with.

First of all - this shirt was made for little girls. You can tell by the surrounding shirts and the fact that the sizes are 11/13. So its for kids. So the whole older generation shouldn't really bother anyone - because they'll take any ponies they can get.

What is really troublesome is the fact that Walmart used 'I love Bronies' on a little girls shirt. That is...just a little too creepy IMO. Should of stuck with 'I love Ponies'.

All and all - I think it gives us a really bad rep - not because of the shirt design and the wrong gen of ponies - but what the shirt says and which age group the shirt is targeted towards.

Sorry I'll rephrase then:

What's the difference between 2 terrible shows with a 5-year old girls target audience? Also if someone should be butthurt here, it's the MLP fans.

You imply people who watch MLP are bronies though. That's as shallow as... video gamers being dumb, ignorant, and rude.

I would say that the question would be what's the difference between MLP and other "girl shows".

The new MLP has on it's production staff animators and writers that worked in cartoons like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory, cartoons aimed at kids, but still have appeal for adults. So while FiM does target at the 5 year old girls, it's writing can be enjoyed by both genders and all ages. While "5 year old girls shows" keep other viewer demographics away.

I think a good analogy is if a developer took the Barbie propriety (generally tied to really really bad games), and made AAA game out of it. To the point where it's quality override the stigma tied into it. You're going to have people willing to play it for the sake of a good gaming experience; You're going to have people who'll enjoy, but move on to other games; People who'll say they are proud to play a game "for girlz" that's actually good; and people who will stay the fuck away from the game just because it's tied into the Barbie brand.

Personally, I enjoyed the show, but kinda lost interest in the middle of season 2. But up into I watched, it's a cartoon that if it wasn't for the MLP Brand and have ponies as characters, could easily pass as a Cartoon Cartoon.

Regarding Bronies, it's just another huge fanbase of a franchise. All fanbases have it's share of weirdos. Sometimes I think the hate towards it reaches ridiculousness levels. That's why I try to stay away from MLP discussions, I don't identify with the Bronie fanbase, but I do think some people hate them too much to the point of retardness.

This is like a "I <3 Trekkies" t-shirt with C-3PO and R2-D2 giving each other a high five over the smouldering body of a cylon,”

From who is this quote? It doesn't make sense at all.

Couldn't people just not buy it? I mean, if someone made a really dodgy Simpsons tee using the art from the first series, I just wouldn't buy it. I wouldn't complain to the company that made it. I wouldn't even feel anger or outrage of any kind. If it sells, well shit, I wouldn't have seen that coming. If it doesn't sell, well then the company knows they've made a mistake.

I dunno. Reactions to this thing that are anything other than finding the design funny are hard for me to relate to.

I don't even know where this supposed hatred came from. Friends of mine and myself just laughed, and moved on when we heard about this.

I think a more apt comparison would be if the shirt had Intellivision Mario on it.

fiercekong.jpg

Why would this be more apt than the 8-Bit Mario from SMB?

MLP'85 vs MLP'12
SMB'85 vs SMB'12

Donkey Kong is even older and Mario is not even that much of a star in it :P

It's mindblowing that this is news.
But i sort of dig that shirt, and i don't even like ponies or Iron Maiden.

It's on Yahoo, it's not news.

The shirt is about 2 years too late man, 2 years ago it would have been really cool to wear an intentionally retro stupid shirt like that.

Eh. I don't get the whole fascination with the show either, but I also don't see why or how they're hurting anyone by it.
Except when PonyGAF were spamming Pony GIFs all over the shop when it first exploded in popularity - that WAS annoying.
