Warhammer |OT| 40k, AoS, specialist games, other miniature games - Need more DAKKA!

Man, I hope they get a fair shake this time.
Bretonnia were the first faction they've released information on, which also mentioned Wood Elves, so combined with the fact neither faction are truly represented in AoS, I'm hoping they're going to be the poster and pack in armies when it finally releases.

And yes, for the Lady! Easily my favourite Fantasy faction too.

I stopped buying GW models because, as has been noted, they've really been going hard on PG13. I prefer fantasy and so far AoS is getting way to close to World of Warcraft in my opinion. Picked up a bunch of 8th edition books and got my resin printer up and running. Independent artists are pumping out much better models now and they're clearly designing Warhammer adjacent.
Even for 40k my wife has a better looking sisters army going from purely 3D printing.

There are some really nice 3rd party figures out there.

If you've got a 3D printer, I'd recommend looking up Anvil Industry, since they have a pattern subscription for printable model designs.

They mostly do not Imperial Guard, but they have their own not Sisters called Daughters of the Burning Rose that are very nice and that they sometimes have printable designs for too.

On a semi related note, I painted this guy up over the last couple of days.

Old models are so bloody tiny compared to the current GW stuff, but there's just something charming about them the computer designed figures are missing.

I'll have to check them out. She picked some stuff from myminifactory like these:

Artisan Guild over at MyMiniFactory.com has been pretty good too.

For AoS I like their snake ladies better than GW's stuff:

Ghamak also recently did a witch elf batch for December:

Nice, I myself use models from Raging Heroes, I have yet to find more beautiful models around. Seriously the worst Sisters of Battle are the official ones. I can't stop laughing when people say stuff like "Oh my gosh st. Celestine is such a beautiful model, the best ever, I just can't...uuuuuu!" and then I look at my Erzebel and I am like "....lol" I let a ton of average people who have never heard of Warhammer tell me which model looks better and it was always an instantaneous vote for Erzebel.

Raging Heroes are awesome, been collecting their stuff for a while. They now have a Patreon called Heroes Infinite where they're releasing a pack of 3D models every month.

Out of curiosity, with a resin model that big, did you have to use any kind of supports to keep it from warping? I have an Avatar of Shaah by them and after about a year she started bending over backwards.

I haven't had her that long but the wings are very light and the body is quite thick so I don't expect any warping. I hope it doesn't.

Looks really good, especially the sandstone look of the backpack topper, really good Stone effect.

You can always just mix a bit of white, yellow or light blue with the same shade of green you use to lighten it for edge highlighting, if you want a more subtle effect.

Excellently, I have finally received the custom transfers I had designed and made for my Chapter Symbol!

rwwzihs.jpg

No more free handing it and ruining a paint job I otherwise like!

Link to their Facebook page if anyone wants to order anything:

Really can't recommend the guy enough, great work, and really good at helping you bring vague ideas into realisation.

Wait wait...there's a really old chapter from the Rogue Trader days. They had a bee or a wasp logo. Hornets? Yellow Jackets?

Edit: Also, how does the custom transfer thing work? Dude's in Japan, I might be interested.

Yellow Jackets, and yeah, they're sort of the inverse of my dudes

Thankfully it kind of works with the backstory I came up with, that there's another obscure chapter out there, that's oddly similar.

Also I just messaged the Transfer guy on Facebook, asking him if he could help me improve the design I had and make me some to the sizes I needed. He was really quick to respond and very good at turning what I said into more legitimate art, then altering it as we went back and forth on alterations.

Plus as I've got an HD image of symbol now, I can make more myself theoretically too, if I get some transfer paper.

The guy came highly recommended from a few sources too. Seems to be the first choice for custom transfers. I think I was forth in the que for things he was working on when I messaged him certainly.

Comparing it to WoW is actually a good comparison imo, I mean Warcraft was heavily inspired by Warhammer it was supposed to be a Warhammer game at first but I think they didn't want to license it out to Blizzard.
So they made pseudo-Warhammer instead which resulted in Warcraft.
I think the artstyle of huge massively oversized armor etc is inspired by Warhammer too, same with Starcraft.

They seem to be announcing new Vampire stuff at Jan 23, wow can't wait to see them lose all of their high society influence and just become generic...
The Lahmian Vampires in particular are my favorite, the female Vampires that are heavily involved in human affairs and utilize seduction a lot.
I am honestly a bit worried they'll just turn them into the generic male Vampire Lord...
I love that fashion they've got going in their current models and TW Warhammer a lot but dear lawd forbid if boobs exist I am calling it now... Because if female characters are going to be strong they can only be so if they're cardboard copies of male characters apparently...

I know that the Witch Aelves weren't ruined but they're also skinny drugged up psychopaths...
All I am really asking for is higher quality plastic models of the already existing design:

I am worried :(...

They'll just become this but with female heads...

It's anyone's guess what the hell a lady version of that will look like.

But it will probably be perched awkwardly on a rock.

Interrogator Chaplain. Like a Normal Chaplain, but twice as angry, part of the Inner Circle and with special anti-Fallen rules.

Also looks really damned nice. Those green robes are great, you're definitely getting better.

It's a cool model, but a shame he looks like he's surfing, or about to fall on his arse.

Probably could fix it quite easy though.

Wow that just looks awful. Here's Artisan Guild's vampires for comparison:

Not as bad as the Lord, but really not up to the usual AOS standard, let alone the third party ones you posted.

Really, I like my vampires either full on sexy, or full on monstrous, and the new GW designs seem to want to be both and neither at the same time, which just really isn't working for me.

Why is the lady vampire's pose more masculine than the man's? Looks like they're also going completely away from the whole Vampire Counts concept of fantasy and making things like even more WoW-ish (aka generic).

The wife and I played a game of AoS over the weekend and actually had a good time. Daughters of Khaine vs Beasts of Chaos. Half of each of our armies were 3D prints and we loaded up on a bunch more stl files to flesh out the rest of our armies. It's really something else when she can add say another 30 Bestigors with just a couple days of printing (and about $5 worth of resin).

So I looked up the Interrigator Chaplain I painted, and it's a melee buffing character. I don't really have melee dudes yet (apart from a crapload of sergeants I could probably run as vets) so I decided to make a squad of company vets just to run around with the Chaplain, and that means matching colors. Given that the DA originally ran around in black armor, I thought this was fine. This was the outcome of the first one:

...a little close to a Black Templar, but you know. Gonna do 4 more of em with robes, stormshields and power swords.

As I'm currently reading reading the Lion El'Johnson Primarch novel, this fits really nicely with the esoteric way the Dark Angels command structure is organised, with secret societies and clandestine meetings between marines of different ranks and organisations that only meet in specific circumstances, and can mean what is normally a Sergeant can outrank a Master, but have no idea who one another are behind their armour, only recognising one another by decoration, be it specific armour colours or even just a talisman they wear.

It's a really good book, and another bit of fiction that makes Lion El'Johnson out to be utterly bloody terrifying to all the other Primarchs.
V3lZ3Pe.jpg

Also really makes me hopeful for him to show up in 40K soon and to give Guilliman a good thrashing, since I read Avenging Son before this, and it only cemented my opinion that the reason 40K is so utterly messed up is entirely down to the Ultramarine's Primarch.

Don't suppose anyone has any ideas for customisations to do with a Furioso Dreadnought at all?

9qPrP07.jpg

I got one basically free with a job lot of Sternguard and Vanguard veterans, and I've got plans to use the Force Halberd and bits with a MK IV Grey Knight body for a Librarian Dreadnought, and the Heavy Frag Cannon with a MK IV Ultramarines Venerable Dreadnought to make an Ironclad, but I'm left with the Furioso parts seen in the picture above I'm not sure what to do with.

I just want soemthing a bit more unique than just a Blood Angels Dreadnought in Yellow, and I'm happy to Kitbash or buy spare bits to do so.

Any suggestions anyone?

Sorry, I only own a few Dreads and the customisation options aren't great. Like, 2 Venerables, an Ironclad, 1 regular and 2 Mortis. I generally use bit from the Ravingwing Upgrade kit to make my Dreads cooler.

In other news: BLADEGUARD KITS for order on the 30th. Very customisable, lots of options, lots of extra bits, fucking awesome poses.

Now just give me Heavy Intercessors and let the kitbashing flow.

An idea I've just had is to add a Grav Cannon and Amp under the arms in place of the Heavy Flamer and Storm Bolter, use spare power sword blades with the Blood Talon bits to give it ornate Dreadnaught Lightning claws, then maybe slap a Cyclone Missile launcher on top for good measure.

Although I was thinking of putting the Cyclone on the Ironclad instead of Assualt Launchers and Hunter Killer Missiles, so maybe a servo arm mounted Heavy Bolter instead? Unless anyone can think of a more fun suggestions?

I want to try removing the underarm weapons, and adding shoulder mounted ones instead. Been toying with some Razorback and bike bits. In my mind, mechs need giant shoulder weapons.

Is it just me or does it look like she's wearing a bodysuit with the black?
It just feels very odd for the setting...

The model isn't awful, but I feel the same as you either go sexy or monster/ horror ( or combine the two ).
This feels too.......... Safe?

This might sound like a weird pet peeve and I know I talk a lot about sex appeal but it's something I enjoy a lot in art, but I really hate how there's just the one boob size lol...
They're fucking Vampires man, if you can '' justify '' big boobs for any character it's Vampires with their superhuman shenanigans.
That's also why I like the courtly aesthetic with the big corsets and all that because it goes well together and looks very dynamic and stylish.

This chick looks like a Witch Aelf cosplaying as a Vampire, not completely awful but not '' wow! ''.
I think if they reveal/ revealed the Vampire Lord for AoS and she looks more like the old but a bit touched up and '' modernized '' ( NOT IN A BAD WAY ) then I wouldn't feel as bad about this.
It's like to me I think this would be cool on top of an incredible new Vampire Lord for AoS, as a bonus.
But when we get this and with their track record and with the male Vampire Lord preview it doesn't fill me with confidence and what I dislike about it stands out way more.
It's like she's wearing a bodysuit but also a really weird top which I dunno wtf that is even and with random armor scattered around ( wtf are those shoulderpads too? ).
It's so unfocused.

But look at the guy on the left, he's shirtless but his design still looks cohesive and what he wears has a strong silhouette.

EsbM8EsXUAAqsQs

Edit: Try and look at the model too without focusing on the swords.
The swords carries her design so incredibly hard.... She looks so boring now that I try and look at her and ignore her swords.

Guy on the left looks okay because he's low-rent Mannfred (GW out of ideas?). They're still calling it the Crimson Court but they don't look like members of a court. Isabella was designed to look like a classic baroness from the Victorian age, she wore armor and a sword too. This feels very WoW, especially lacking the details that GW used to put in models. The woman in that group looks like she's sporting Witch Elf hair, which makes no sense at all.

Nah you're good. I personally haven't seen actual Battletech minis in over a decade, but I do know they're really popular to 3D print. Might find some on Ebay or some places will print them for you.

For example this model is free:

So.

They just revealed a new Sisters unit.

Hold on to your shit, they got Centurion lites:

And they immediately got the nickname 'Nundams'.

I've got to say though, they are exactly my kind of ridiculously silly looking.

Looks like they're packing Power Swords, Twin Storm Bolters and at least either a Heavy Bolter or Multimelta, so probably the option of a Heavy Flamer too, given the faction.

And Dark Angels week starts tomorrow. On the 30th the following can be ordered:

- Bladeguard kits
- Dark Angels combat patrol (looks better than most of the Primaris patrols)
- Storm Speeder kits
- Eradicator kits
- Darks Angels codex & data cards

Apparently some new DA content will be revealed in the week. My money is on the leaked unit: the Deathwing Strikemaster. Hopefully it'll have a kit.

Are any of you based in Europe outside UK? If so, where are you planning to buy your minis now? I used to buy most of it at Wayland or Firestorm, but with Brexit, it's not worth it anymore.. and the FLGS is way too expensive.

Dark Angels codex is out and...well, the power creep is abundant. Expect to see entire Deathwing detachments walking across the board without a care in the world.

I'm busy trying out the other side of the fence:

Played a quick game with another friends models using 9th edition rules. I really really like 9th edition versus the last time I played which was back in 7th edition. I also am looking at dusting off a ton of Shaven boxes I never opened including the Skaven Army box from 2013/2014 that I have never even used just because Age of Sigmar looks equally sick. Time to sit down and figure out painting. The only saving grace about coming back to the hobby is I have models so the cost is down to paint and updating books.

I used to play as a kid, don't have time anymore but appreciate the skills with painting being shown in this topic. I'll keep lurking.

I've got a bunch of the novels & audiobooks which I hope to find time to read sometime, though I've been saying that for years. Looking forward to the W40k TV series that was announced awhile back, hopefully it's not been cancelled.

Aye, I spend near zero time playing, and far more listening to or reading the fluff than painting.

I'm currently reading The Infinite and The Divine, which has so far been sublime. Genuinely funny and showing the more daft side of 40K that got lost in the Grim Dark for a couple decades.

I too like the bashing of the kit, but my pile of shame kind of went nuts so I divided everything into batches and got going. Not pictured: the 10 Infiltrators, 2 x Primaris Lieutenants. 3 x Eliminators, 3 x Eradicators, Necron Royal Guard and Reanimator I painted. The Alpha Legion need some touch ups and I'll be reinforcing those next (another squad of marines, a Daemon Prince, a vehicle or two). I spend more time on them than the Primaris though. Those I speed paint. Really looking forward to doing a Maulerfiend over the next 2 weeks.
