I just got it today and after just the first hour of play, color me impressed. This is one of those titles where hype is not a bad thing. After the intro that we have all seen, Wario goes into the first level, serving as a tutorial of sorts. You meet up with Captain Maple Syrup and you start on your journey. The tutorial, which is a pirate ship, plays eerily like the first level of Wario Land 4. The mechanic is similar to 4 in the sense that you have a time limit to get back to the start as fast as you can after capturing one of Queen Melful's citizens from danger. After this first level, a shop opened up where you can buy potions, level up items, and maps to access new levels. There is also a sound test. The game looks absolutely beautiful, and no screenshots do it any justice. Don't hesitate to pick this one when it hits your region.

A tutorial in a fucking 2d game? Man how I miss the days where a 9 page manual would do the job and you could just get along with fucking playing the game and figuering shit out yourself. I never read the manuals.

I didn't know anyone, and I mean anyone, who opened the box of Super Mario Bros. 3 and read the manual. We started the game and just got on with it lol.

:lol well not as soon as you get the game, but sometime before you get pretty far.

I don't mind tutorial tasks too much. The tolerance for failure has shifted so a game like SMB3 would be too annoying to some people right now, so I think this is an okay compromise. At least it isn't text heavy.

Thing is? I'm surprised Ninty even did this, because this game surely wasn't made cheap.

Getting Production IG to do all the sprite drawing, backgrounds and anime FMVs? That stuff costs MONEY. Money which Ninty and some other companies have, but not necessarily everybody wants to spend on.

If Wario Land Shake sells well though? Maybe that might send a signal to these other guys.

Nearly every game Nintendo has spit out this gen has sold very well.

If this game doesn't sell well it is truly a dark day for gaming.
