Let's look at his accomplishment.
-Killed Osama Bin Laden
-Affordable Care Act
-Deferment for illegal immigrants though Dreamers executive order
-Two liberal judges, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor
-possibly others

Let's look at his divisive legacy.
-Threw law enforcement under the bus starting with the Henry Louis Gates incident.
-Stroke racial tension by openly encouraging the Black Lives Matter movement with his "if I had a son" remark during the Treyvon Martin trial
-Gave illegal immigrants deportation protection(dreamers executive order) while increasing their rights with regards to access to healthcare, education, employment and even allowed them to get driver licenses.
-To win his second term in 2012, he abandoned the white working class whom helped him win the landslide victory in 2008 to embraced the LGBT, illegal immigrants, feminist, and other minority groups.
-Allowed the north koreans to finish their nuclear weapons program
-Kept the US in the middle east while campaigning to withdraw
-Embolden russia aggression and expansion with their annexation of Crimea
-Increase the national debt by 10+ trillion dollars over just 8 years
-Under his presidency, the opioid crisis exploded, resulting in the numerous horror stories we now see about homelessness, suicides and addiction
-Under his presidency, the wealth gap widen, with ultra rich tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Amazon receiving the majority of the wealth while the middleclass is declining
-Under his presidency, religion was under attack, with his initial remark about "clinging to guns and religion" and many sanctions against religious businesses
-Under his presidency, the grievance and intersectional studies exploded, resulting in the militant SJW, LGBT, feminist, and socialist onslaught we now see
-many others

Obama is without a doubt, one of the most divisive and polarizing presidents no matter your political leaning. He promised unity in 2008 but ended up dividing the nation on racial, economic, religious, gender lines in 2016. He made America weaker in the world stage by being soft on adversaries like north korea, russia, china, middle east, mexico and others. He drained the national wealth by racking up debt for unsustainable entitlements like the obamacare, while stifling business with increase taxes. He assaulted religion, which was the bedrock for much of the nation's moral core and strength.

Was Obama a good president now that his legacy is starting to take shape? Will he be remembered as the first black president and little else? Or will he be seen as a president who divided America and made it weaker in the long run? Was he a good president?

-Kill lists
-increased the number of countries we are bombing significantly [he was bombing at least 7 countries]
-drone killings
-killed american citizens
-failed on many promises, like closing Guantanamo

No, he was not a good president.

That's some mightily unbiased language you've used there, OP. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Obama was the same as the all of the other post-WWII presidents: Barely competent at his job, and a failure in most situations. It's not entirely his fault, because of all the other failures before him, but he didn't improve much either.

Yeah I think so

He wasn’t perfect and there are certainly things you could criticize. That’s anyone in his position tho.

What he did to Libya was pure evil.

Considering there was a recent thread about why is Africa still failing, more people should be horrified that taking out Gaddafi only set the continent back even further.

The Good:
Moved towards normalizing relations with Cuba and Iran.

The Bad:
Encouraged the Sunni militias which became ISIS (as a misguided attempt to counterbalance Iran and undermine Assad).
Expanded drone warfare, killing mainly innocent people and radicalizing their survivors.
Continued War in Afghanistan while achieving nothing.
Allowed Hillary to work for regime change in Libya, resulting in a failed terror state with slave markets.
Instituted kill lists, including the killing of Americans with no trial.
Health care and insurance system went from a horrible, expensive mess to maybe slightly worse.
Continued Bush's bailouts of bad financial sector behavior, ensuring more trouble down the road.
Presided over an extremely sluggish recovery (economies always recover after a recession; doesn't take brilliance)
That sluggish recovery came with interest rates effectively 0 and massive deficits.

Not really. His liberal appointments helped push through gay marriage which is great. And I'm very glad for his executive action on DACA. But bailing out the banks & American auto industry and settling for a republican half measure instead of pushing more for a public option are big failures.

The next democrat president must be more aggressive than milquetoast barack.

He was a bad president in a long string of bad presidents. I think his most damaging impact was "normalizing" and "providing a platform for" identity politics, such as propagating the gender wage gap myth and driving a wedge between law enforcement and minorities. America needed our first black president to prove to ourselves that we'd somewhat healed from slavery and Jim Crow, but instead of healing he jabbed at those wounds and made them worse.

He was smart and an eloquent speaker but sadly he failed to deliver on the changes he promised; even with 2 terms. His Obamacare actually made criminals out of people that couldn't afford healthcare; not exactly the kind of healthcare reform I was hoping for.

Another warmonger like Bush, for a foreigner like me it makes little difference if they are democrat or republican if their foreign policy is basically based on bullying and promoted by war profits.

didn't do shit about the war on terror, didn't do shit for the poor, didn't do shit for immigrants, didn't do shit for the justice system, didn't do shit for black people ("I'm the president of all America"). then again i have low opinions on every president. they all follow the status quo and it's why shit sucks.

"killed Bin Laden", this is not a good thing, he should have been held on trial, get more info out of him. but no, just illegal bullet in the head, we buried him at sea, promise. bullshit ending to a bullshit war.

ACA was a fucking joke. a giant handjob to the insurance companies.

yeah the guy had a few good playlists. he was a landmark in marketing, that's for sure. basically proved that you can sell fascism as long as they go on a lesbian talk show.

He was a great president, but he did not always make the best calls. His handling of the border situation was terrible and his decisions regarding Syria were even worse. And his use of drones was also another point of contention.

But he made many good decisions to go with the bad. The ACA is of course his greatest achievement though. Allowing millions of American access to the health insurance they deserve is the best the thing he ever did. And that to me is worth commending.

Overall though he will be remembered as a good president and a good man though. History will be very kind to him. Especially considering the absolute shitshow that followed with Trump. I think Trump being so bad will have a positive effect on how Obama is viewed which is pretty ironic in my opinion considering how much Trump hates him and how hard he has tried to erase everything he has done.

No. Just another puppet despite the charisma. Bernie would be interesting but he would probably get assassinated. Thought Trump would be interesting but he isn't doing much except bigging himself up constantly.

They all promise change but fuck all ever changes.

He was decent, but elevated beyond his real worth by the fact that he is black.

People who only look at it that way are blind to the fact he is a very smart kid who grew up as part of the mid-upper class. It's always been about class. Always.

He tried the fake 'soft power' approach with America, but I believe the American race doesn't like it. You guys and gals are different. The craziest yet most wonderful social experiment in human history.

Neither good nor bad. Average is how I would describe his presidency. ACA had good and bad, but it was passed in the most BS way possible. Pretty much every major company got a waiver for it. He lied about it as well.

He was sold to me as the good guys finally winning over evil.

Whether any of that had any basis in reality is not what I’m saying, it’s how I felt it was portrayed to me at the time.

I was just going to say, he was literally a better spoken Bush Jr.

Which was always fun to see the partisan gymnastics for one and the other.

I’ll also add that if Obama wasn’t black, the left would admit that the ACA was terrible Heritage foundation policy instead of wasting energy polishing that turd.

No. The ACA mandate cost me hundreds of dollars. So glad Trump got rid of it.

Then there's the terrible foreign policy to go along with it.

I am not super happy with him, but he was the best president for the whole duration where I had interest in US politics (so we are talking Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump). Since he is the best out of four, I vote yes.

The two things that stand out to me the most are his pushing of the 77c wage gap lie and his support of BLM / criticism of police in the lead up to the Dallas police mass murder. Then there’s the NSA scandal that no one talks about anymore. Remember Edward Snowden? Remember how he showed that the government was spying on its own citizens? Remember how it was one of the biggest presidential scandals in US history then all of a sudden everyone, especially the media, stopped talking about it?

With the benefit of hindsight, he was infected with the intersectional mind virus and I can only imagine the things he has done behind the scenes that we don’t even know about. His frequent dalliances with celebrities like Jay-Z and Beyoncé who are at the top of the Hollywood elites further demonstrate this. Clint Eastwood was right: Obama was the greatest fraud ever perpetrated on the American people.

Whole Arab Spring failed in general. America and Europe mistakenly thought it would be a second 1989, while forgetting Yugoslavia

From an outside perspective, he was fine. He was basically charismatic to watch on tv and didnt kill anyone in my country, so I'd say that's good enough for me.

“Do not send your children to the borders,” he said. “If they do make it, they'll get sent back. More importantly, they may not make it.”

The greatest snake oil salesman of the century. Probably set race relations back a half century. Hope and change was a dream sold to the masses that turned into a nightmare in four years.
