Watch Dogs 2: Ubisoft Patches Out Female Genitalia, Leaves Male Genitalia

Update/Clarification: The realistic genital model of a female prostitute NPC wearing a kind of lingerie that doesn't cover the vulva is being removed. Other models are left uncensored for now.

Now that's just wrong, on several levels.
Despite what evangelicals would have you believe, female human anatomy is perfectly natural. Depicting it in media intended for mature audiences is not a problem.
Censoring is bad. Censoring female body parts while leaving male parts uncensored is even worse.

Don't succumb to the American fear of the nipple!

UPDATE 16/11/16: Ubisoft has apologised for one "particularly explicit" example of NPC genitalia visible in Watch Dogs 2, and said it would be patched out.

The publisher told Kotaku the change would be made to one female genitalia model - presumably the one being shared most widely online (and which we have included, in censored fashion, below).

Male genitalia will remain intact.

Patch out if old.

Very much agreed. This (the censor patch) shouldn't even be happening in the first place, but if you're gonna censor genitalia then censor it all.

But the article even says they're only patching it out of that one NPC's model, so the nudists will be left intact.

Ubisoft can't handle vaginas apparently. Should keep both or remove both because it doesn't actually effect the game either way.

It's in response to Sony temporarily banning a user who shared a screenshot. While the ban was later lifted, the e-mail he received warned him against sharing similar content in the future. Ubi's doing this to prevent other players from falling victim to Sony's lack of foresight.

Edit: Oh, and it's not a ratings issue, either:
Those are outdated. Here's the ESRB rating and here's the PEGI rating.

You know i thought the Tracer pose controversy was already ridiculous enough.

This takes the cake. Is this all because of that guy who took the screenshot? Really?

I've read the article up and down and didn't see anything suggesting your thread title, OP. As far as I know, there are actually numerous female NPCs showing full frontal nudity and they're only patching one of of them (the one who is actually not supposed to show it).

Focusing on the real issues. It's not like I really wanted my Pro patch or for multiplayer to even work slightly.

(I know these are entirely different teams that work on these fixes, I'm just being cheeky)

Hope to hear a statement. I was happy that this industry was making some progress.

Edit: Oh, guess it's not bad. Why that one model though?

It's probably a ratings issue more than censorship.

Nudity is allowed under an M rating.

The back of the game case states nudity in one of its content descriptions for the rating.

It's only when you get into pornographic type of nudity that it would kick it into an AO rating.

It looks like they're just patching the one NPC type with the crotchless panties. If the nudists are left intact then this really isn't anything to get worked up over.

[Update—3:30 PM]: When asked to clarify which genitals they were patching, Ubisoft said, “We are patching the one female NPC.” So, go ahead, let’s see how your digital dick pics do on the PSN. Maybe the gaming world just isn’t ready for explicit vaginas.

OP pls.

OP is misleading, they're only changing one model.

It already supports the Pro.

But why not patch out both in this case. that would make at least some kind of sense, but just one is... At least strange.

Sony bans people that share screenshots of it.

I get that. But why just the female parts.

Because dicks are okay, apparently. Nobody was slapped with a ban for sharing such screenshots of The Order.

Talking about misleading thread titles and misinformation in the OP.

They are only changing it on the controversial NPC model where even our fellow GAF member got banned for by sharing it on PSN.

Goron2000 should receive some payment from Ubi for doing a stellar job in their viral marketing campaign. ;p

Both what? There are no male NPC walking around with hole on his pants to begin with.

It's a stupid knee jerk, retro-active decision from Ubi to censor this, just panders to the tabloid notion that games are evil.
