Holy crap! I noticed early on that the water in this game looks amazing, but now I'm on the jetski going 'upriver' to the monastary! OH WOW! Completely owned!

And something this game doesn't get enough credit for, the sound effects and placement are sheer brilliance. My room feels like a raging river in 5.2 surround.

I was about to say you had a typo there, till I realized I'm running a 7.2 system myself (one sub in front, one in back). So way to go if that's what you meant. :D

Elena really was a great part of the game, a strong girl who wasn't needy or relied on others. Really appreciated that from Naughty Dog. The game was great all around.

Uncharted suffers from the same problem as Perfect Dark Zero, everything in the environment is from Planet Shiny. The water and waxy leaves look great, but things like stone ruins or rusty metal look silly because of this. Is this unavoidable when you use parallax mapping?

Yes, because jungles covered in foliage are completely dry. Uncharted has the right shininess at the right time.

presuming they are going with the default four races like the original

it would prob be Space Marines, Orkz, Tyranids, Chaos or Eldar, and MAYBe an extra race

I guess since every game with bump mapping have this "shiny" when it's used. Some less than others but still...

The rocks look shiny/wet when they should look wet. Mainly in the jungles. This isn't shiny:

Not even the jungle environments are overly wet looking, dude. Certain rocks had a wet quality, but I can't recall one environment where the shine wasn't on par with what to expect from the location.

Best Next Gen single player experience so far IMO.

Game proves that animation is key to making a game have that next gen feel.

Naughty Dog really showed what the PS3 is capable of producing. I consider this game to be on the level of MGS2 on the PS2, because many did not think that level of visuals was possible so early in the console's life cycle. I hope ND can manage to push the console even harder with the sequel, because the game looks amazing and any improvement would be mindblowing...
Texture streaming FTW!

Damn right!

Uncharted 2 is going to be the bomb, seeing as how ND will spend more time working on the story and gameplay rather than building a whole engine from the ground up :D

To the people playing in SD, this is what I hate about parallax mapping, or rather when devs use parallax maps on everything. It gives the texture incredible depth, but it makes it glisten like it's covered in vasoline. Any time Naughty Dog wants to make a flat texture look really 3D, wet or dry, it ends up looking shiny. Then there are devs like Capcom who use a lot of high-rez textures without many effects so things look flat but not shiny. I am just looking forward to the day when we can lose the shine but keep the depth.

Am i the only one who could give a shit less what the water in a video game looks like as long as the game is fun?
