Oh shit, I forgot that Weezer was popular. Fuck! Sorry about that!

Now, ahem, FUCK WEEZER IT'S GARBAGE AND MAINSTREAM LIKE ALL THAT TRASH FUCK THAT POP SHIT MORE LIKE POOP MUSIC WHAT GARBAGE.

Ouch burn. I really don't give a shit if you diss Tool. In spite of my username I do not worship them, they are just a solid psychadelic prog rock band with a great singer. Pinkerton on the other hand is an album that mainly appealed to 13 year old emos just getting into rock music. It is every bit as dull and simplistic as shit like Creed/Linkin Park.
 
I've never heard of anyone disliking the Blue Album before this thread. I also get that Green is a huge drop from Pink, but its not bad by any means like people seem to make it out to be.

Tool versus Weezer? Seriously? As if they have anything in common other than being bands that play music.

Apples to oranges...purely a taste thing. I never got into Tool. I loved Weezer in high school. That doesn't mean one is better than the other.

Of course two things that happen to be in the same medium should be thoroughly compared, even though in reality they don't share that many traits.

If you knew anything about music theory, you'd realize how idiotic you sound.

Take a listen to Falling For You and tell me it's as simple as anything you have heard on the radio. In fact, it's more complex from a chordal standpoint than most of Tool. I know that may hurt to believe, but it's true, even without super deep references to Bill Hicks and fisting.
 
I grew up on Weezer, loved them and still fucking love them. I will never change the station or song when I stumble onto Weezer.

You have to admit there was a bizarre drop off in quality level of both bands starting in the 2000s. Bizarre. I don't quite comprehend how the same band that gave us Pinkerton went on to release Raditude and Hurley.

And the Foos never came close to matching The Colour and the Shape. That's still one of my favorites.

Once they started getting paid... :/

Wasting Light was really good, "White Limo" being a highlight.

Self-titled debut, The Color and the Shape, and There Is Nothing Left to Lose are the best of the best. One By One and In Your Honor are pretty decent listens, but nay to everything after. They just got really boring.

These Tool comparison are asinine but ok I'll play along. Tool is not known for complex guitar riffs. In fact the simplicity and repetitiveness of their riffs helps to induce the trance-like mental state that their music is known to cause.

With that being said there is nothing complex about Falling For You. It is a very typical pop-rock song. Nothing wrong with pop-rock unless the riffs are boring and the singing sucks, which is the case with Weezer.

Anyways I'm out. Somehow I got sucked into a band argument/comparison that doesn't even make any sense. That is what I get for trolling I guess.

That is very cute. Falling For You uses every root note possible, modulates multiple times, and has some extremely complex harmony. Please try not to throw around words like "simple" in regards to a subject, in this case music, that you very clearly don't understand.

Lots of bands make music for 20+ years and manage to remain interesting and/or relevant in what they do. I wish from the bottom of my heart that I could count Weezer among them in my own personal opinion, but I just can't bring myself to give a crap about them anymore. "Oh, here's our new album with cover art that is just a dude's picture from a popular TV show. Come buy tickets to our cruise(?!?)" What they're laying down is just not something I'm picking up anymore, but I really hope that someone else is!

You can say it sucks. From an objective standpoint, it uses every root note and has a pretty complex key change in the middle of a guitar lead, which makes you incorrect in deeming it simple.

In that sense, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. You are arguing something using incorrect terms and baseless claims. Don't throw around terms like "technical perspective" if you know nothing about music theory.

Since you've studied theory for ten years, I'd love to hear your chordal analysis on what makes it simple.
