I loved his character season 1. But his demise was both poignant and satisfying. He made amends with the legacy of his friend and partner, and completed Bernard's work, guiding the hosts to true sentience. His story came full circle, and I'm more interested in seeing how the hosts find their way on their own without the writers drudging up some way to keep Anthony Hopkins around.

Maybe I'll be surprised, but this reeks of fanservice. Ford was clearly meant to die

They teased us with the host in the lab for a reason.

Heh, Jonah Nolan has even gone further with reviving dead characters.
With Person of Interest, there were several characters who were dead right from the first episode who came back only through flashbacks.
