What are some 80’s/90s movies that you think everyone should see?

Last year my son told me he wanted to watch some of my favourite movies from when I was a kid, so we have gone down that Rabbit Hole that never seems to end.

He now considers himself a 90s kid, stuck in modern times. So far we have watched

Bill and Ted and it’s sequel
Gremlins and 2
Goonies
Princess Bride
Big
Karate Kid 1 and 2
Terminator 1 and 2
Kindergarten Cop
Fifth Element
The Matrix (only part 1)
36 chambers of the Shaolin and it’s sequels
The Entire Nightmare in Elm Street series
The Scream series.
Final Destination 1 and 2
Good Burger
Aladdin
Good Morning Vietnam
Popeye
The 60s Pete’s Dragon

And many more, this is just a part that I can remember off the top of my head. I have some more in mind, but am always open to suggestions and hopefully somebody will remind me of a movie I might have forgot.

Damn guys lots of great suggestions here.

As soon as D+ comes out next week we are hitting the Disney library hard so Honey I Shrunk The Kids will be played. He’s already seen Roger Rabbit.

Many if the movies you suggest might be a bit mature for him yet (He’s 11) but he’s seen the Monster Squad and Back to the Future is on the list.

As an aside I find it funny that The Running Man takes place in 2019 and BTTF is 2017 it breaks the immersion a bit.
GreyHorace GreyHorace

He has seen a few of these movies already, but that is a solid list.

Probably more for you but as an Elm Street fan you should check out the documentary ‘Never Sleep Again’ which follows the behind the scenes of all the Elm Street movies and features most of the cast from each of the movies excluding a couple like Johnny Depp.

Should've mentioned his age lol. I really loved the Gumby movie as a kid. Here's a few more off the top of my head
The Sandlot
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Batman Subzero
Batman Mask of the Phantasm
Batman
Batman Returns

I’ve a shown him all of those, but as he gets older I will be pulling from your list. Plus he’s probably the only kid his age that has seen all the Fleischer Superman cartoons and all of Batman:The animated Series.

Is it much different then the nightmare encyclopedia “Never Sleep Again” that came with the box set?

i feel like they are 2 different documentaries that share the same name and subject.

It's about 4 hours long. If what you saw was that long then they are probably the same. If not, you're in for a treat!

Different I think. The one I was referring was spread over two discs.

I have to say kids are smArt now, my son said what if it’s all a Dream before Quaid even left for Mars. Here I wanted to ask him if it was real or a Dream after the movie ended, but he figured it out in the first 20 mins.

The Replacement Killers

Slick action combined with an MGS2-style soundtrack (It has the same composer).

Heavens Creatures - I don’t even remember this one, and I though I had seen basically everything.

Sorry, I wrote that one wrong. It is "Heavenly Creatures" I meant. It was one of Peter Jackson's first big films. Done around the time of "Braindead" .

For an 11 year old..how about the "House" films? Or :
The Witches
Blast from the Past
The Mummy films
George of the Jungle
The Rocketeer
The Coneheads
Beastmaster
Dragonslayer
Beetlejuice
Big
Gremlins
Robocop

Police Story I & II
Great Mouse Detective
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life
Bloodsport/Kickboxer double feature if you're into 80s action flicks or JCVD serve as a good taste.
Castle in the Sky (check out other Ghibli stuff as well)
Zero Effect (1998 ver)
State of Grace
Jinnah. This one is about the founder of our country and one of Christopher Lee's best performances IMO. What's insane is how well he captures so many of his mannerisms especially some really subtle acting.
