What are some manga/anime with a big drop in quality between arcs?

Everything in Berserk after Guts dealt with those religious freaks and set out to fix Caska.

It feels glacial and the posse Guts has trailing him now feels like dead weight.

The art is still magnificent though.

There's a large stretch during that Holy arc where the art takes a massive drop. I'm particularly thinking about the rabble and the sex cultists.

Let's be honest, though, Band of the Hawk is Berserk.

I'm okay with pretending the ending to Berserk is one of the darkest ever conceived.

I hated the Uprising arc in Attack on Titan. It was a slog and marks the point where the story is no longer about the initial premise that caught the attention of millions.

One Piece was at an all time low during Fishman Island arc and Punk Hazard. Luckily, Dressrosa and especially Whole Cake Island have been a top return to form.

Following One Piece week by week I can understand the people saying Dressrosa was a disappointing story arc. But if you wait until its finished and ready it all the way through its very compelling and a great read. One of the better OP arcs imo.

I think every New World arc before Whole Cake, including return to Sabaody, lends itself to long reading sessions over weekly reading whereas pre-time skip was doing both.

Yeah, but we didn't find that out until the tail end of Hueco Mundo so it still counts!

Jesus, it really just hit me how long that arc was...

Holy fuuuuuck can we get a warning or something? I just started watching death note a few days ago

For fuck sakes

Damn. :(

This is fair. Dressrosa is better when binged, but where Whole Cake Island (and Zou imo) are concerned it's been a lot better at keeping me consistently engaged.

Yeah, Zou too but it was largely an information/end game arc which is why it was really interesting as well as meeting a new tribe of people.

Anyone saying Sabody arc in One Piece wasnt good are probably smoking something lol.

Like it had one of the hypest moments in One Piece. That scene at the auction was amazing. Never had a scene felt so satisfying till that scene when everything went white and black.
The scene at the auction was just a callback to Jaya. Which frankly did it better.

Sabaody is still fantastic though.

The drop after Majin Vegeta's sacrifice in DBZ is pretty bad. Everything after Pain in Naruto feels like Kishimoto throwing darts at a wall. I'd like to believe everything after Soul Society in Bleach doesn't exist.

I would say Death Note after the time skip, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

If Majin Vegeta actually killed Buu then and there, I think it would have ended up being one of the best/one of my favorite arcs ever in anime/manga. I just wanted the man to finally get a W.

haha, same thing happened to me with death note the first time I saw it. Some asshole dropped that spoiler on me on purpose, I still hate the guy.
Yeah no kidding, it sucks ass haha. I was so into the show too and couldn't wait to find out who "won" between Light and L

How is Bleach not the answer for every post in this thread? Is it because it's too obvious and that it's more interesting to debate what the runner-up should be?

Saint Seiya Poseidon arc in the manga wasnt as interesting as the Gemini and Hades arc

Hokuto no Ken manga drops in quality after Raoh gets out of the picture. Ending is even worse than Jojo part 1.

Yo I started with Berserk like a month ago and this is real. Really things start getting shaky after the Eclipse but by now it's a mess. I just got to them setting sail from V*town and man. So much ponderous exposition on magic systems just introduced.

Plus we just have to have every chick fall for this dude. Hot tomboy, hot blonde dominatrix, and... kid-chick...

I'm pissed at these new lieutenants of Griffith's, too, because it means we're like six arcs away from the important confrontation. Guts's gotta kill like five minibosses before he gets to the top.

Wish I had stopped at the Eclipse but at this point I'm just in for whatever even if it sucks.

Berserk is one of those mangas where I should've waited for it to one day end. Monthly mangas just suck.

Yeah there've been a lot of "books" that were cool but which didn't really move the plot much. So far that's been fine because I just immediately picked up the next one. But I know once I can't do that I'm just going to be getting madder and madder at this thing taking its eyes off the prize.

This. I flat out quit OPM early in the tournament. Completely killed my interest in the series and has basically ensured the next season of the anime is going to be devoted to the tournament aka 99% filler

Also, people saying Bleach dropped right after Soul Society, are you guys forgetting that was the Arrancar arc? Bleach was still good up until that ended at they traveled to Hueco Mundo. We got the Vaizards and Grimmjow

The Vaizards do nothing besides give Ichigo some training and is symptom of Kubo's problem where at least half of the group can be taken out and wouldn't change a damn hing since Kubo can't handle his many characters.

I wouldn't say it was bad but it wasn't as interesting as before

Honestly haven't watched the movie but it ending with L wining sounds like an improvement

I know it sucks to be spoiled but that's kinda "Snape kills Dumbledore" for manga/anime. It's amazing you hadn't seen that before.

Dont know if it counts but the endless eight from haruhi suzumiya made me stop watching it. I dont know who had the bright idea of making 8 episodes exactly the fucking same except for maybe a minute or two.

This opinion is invalid simply because of the existence of Schierke.

Aldnoah Zero after episode 3.

The show's quality dropped ever since, and became one of my least favorite show of all time by the end of season 2 from my favorite show of the season.
Agreed, tried to continue watching but couldn't bear to watch anymore after 10 episodes in.
I read that the ending was terrible so apparently I didn't miss out on anything

Yeah, for me Berserk lost its magic after the Guts / Zodd battle (hill of swords).

After it's the "fellowship of the armor" with none of the ferocious bold audacity the author had before that. Boring.

He has a point. At the time of reading, we thought the Visored were going to come in and wreck some shit sooner or later...until they didn't.

I actually think Huenco Mundeo was good up until Ichigo and Ulquiorra's fight. Then that scene with Orihime happened and shit went off the rails and never got back on track.

I'd agree with everyone on Bleach, but I watched the show with someone who had seen it all, and he made us stop after the Soul Society arc.

"It just gets really bad"

I mean, the show isn't exactly good to begin with :P

I watched the entire show up to Endless Eight, watched that, watched the episode after it, sand decided I was done with the show forever. The words "Kyon-kun, denwa" will haunt me forever.

I don't think it got really bad til Huenco Mundo, then you start seeing the true cracks start to form.

I still can't believe people subjected themselves to this lol

whatever that boat shit was in berserk.

I just recently read through all of Berserk (up to current release anyway) for the first time, having heard all of the terrible issues that happen once Guts gets on the boat.

I have to say that was all over blown IMO. While yeah it lasted something like 50 issues. I believe that the stigma comes from the artificial slow down in pacing that stemmed from Miura's slow release schedule that started around the same time as Guts getting on the boat. While read being read back to back once all the chapters have been released, the pacing wasn't all that awful and the story was...fine. Not anywhere as interesting as any of the previous arcs, but it was necessary to bridge that gap between two MAJOR story arcs.

This is entirely what it is.

Yup. Reading it weekly was a slog, but on a reread in one go afterwards it was fine. The anime adaptation lost me midway through though and I haven't picked the anime up again.

Berserk is one of those mangas where I should've waited for it to one day end. Monthly mangas just suck.

IF ONLY Berserk actually released once per month. Series would be long finished if that were the case :S

Berserk is about as much monthly as HxH is weekly :(

One Piece's fishmen island, though it's a lot better if you didn't have to wait weekly to read it.

Shokugeki no Soma's central arc, it's a trainwreck that still hasn't ended.

Bleach, anything after hueco Mundo.

Dragon Ball from Cell to Buu, everybody was supersayajin-ing

Black Butler's Witch arc, I mean the best arc was probably the circus and what followed wasn't exactly on par, but the witch arc was the most boring one.

One Punch Man Remastered after Murata decided to do a tournament just for the heck of it. Stick to the original, dammit.

The new stuff is still from ONE.
Not in my heart. I rather believe ONE is just writing Mob and decided to let Murata do whatever he wants using his name to back it up. I mean, it makes no sense for Saitama to even participate in a martial arts tournament.

Edit:
Nobody's gonna mention Reborn! throwing itself right off a cliff with the future arc?
Oh, indeed that happened. Though I still think it managed to drop even further with the inheritance arc, but that may be because I never liked Enma.
