StoOgE said:when you play a FPS and you whirl around real quickly and you can see the screen "tear" the game has vysnc issues. its hard to describe, but it looks like a horizontal scan line. From what I understand (not alot) its a problem when the FPS and the refresh rate are not in sync. V-sync corrects this problem by locking the FPS at the same rate as your screens refresh rate.
Schmo Florez said:OOOOH! I remember first seeing this when lookin around in first person view in Metal Gear Sons of Liberty. I've been wondering what that was ever since.
Xdrive05 said:I've been seeing it in a lot of recent PS2 games too. In MGS3 it's really apparent when you go into first person and look around at the aligator marshes part of the jungle
Brandon F said:I've only really noticed it in PDZ, and even then it happens pretty infrequently.
Cronox said:I've never noticed it in DOA4, but it's definitely around in PDZ, enough to ruin the good looks of some levels for me.
op_ivy said:its VERY noticable in doa4 in the story mode when christie floats down amid the sparks in the skyskrapper stage cutscene (sorry, dont remember which characters story)
in the first level take, for example, any big bright light on the wall (those vertical ones) and stand in front of it.
Cronox said:Elliot. Never noticed it though. Will be on the lookout if I play through their stories again.
Edit: while I'm here -
First level was ruined by this. I really wanted to appreciate the sweet bug-eye designed cielings but the screen tearing took a shit on top of the whole level for me.
GitarooMan said:I've only noticed it really in PDZ, I've played some Madden and haven't really seen it and played about an hour of NFS: Most Wanted and didn't see any.
levious said:Do you skip all the cutscenes in Madden? Cause I'm pretty sure it almost always tears during them.
Seventh Son said:eh.. can someone post a screenshot of some game where vsync is happening?
TekunoRobby said:I saw screen tearing in spades on Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. It was the result of their desicion to bump the game up to 60fps instead of leaving it on 30 (like the PS2/GameCube version) with vsync on.
rusty said:Worst tearing I've seen in a console game is God of War. I can't see how anyone could play that and not notice it.
Wyzdom said:There's also those frame stop in the cut-scenes that pisses me to no end, it feels like i'm playing a god damn PC game or something.
Well then you need glasses or you haven't played a bunch of console games. It's unfortunately getting more and more common with console games.Borys said:Never noticed it in a console game, EVER.
I've noticed some tearing in that game, I don't know if it was because of vsync though. Just in one part of the game, a part of the floor was missing. I wasn't spinning fast or anything, it just wasnt being drawn. Weird.Vark said:I noticed condemed doing it on the plasma at work (60", 720p) haven't noticed it as much at home (1080i RP CRT).
