The Business Plot.

During FDR's presidency, a bunch of far right ideologues and business interests genuinely thought he was a communist who was destroying the United States and destroying it fundamentally from within the halls of power. Obviously this meant that he had to be stopped and the only way to do so was to round up a million WW1 veterans, march on Washington and stage a military coup, installing what amounted to an American fascist style government in place of the constitutional one.

The man they tried to recruit to lead those million veterans was one General Smedly Butler. Butler, a patriot through and through, was disgusted at the very idea of a military coup and reported the plot to the authorities, which eventually prompted congressional hearings that dragged in such luminaries as Senator George Prescott Bush (father and grandfather to two presidents), the DuPonts and many others.

Perhaps because of the shadowy nature of the whole business, a lack of any progress by the conspirators or due to outside pressures, Congress found insufficient evidence to convict anyone of anything and the whole thing was eventually forgotten.

In my mind what makes it all so fascinating is the plausibility of it all.

The hatred some on the American right had of FDR was deep and visceral, and this at a time when fascism wasn't some historical dead end, but a living, breathing, seemingly successful alternative to the liberal democracies the Western world was organised under. The Great Depression had shaken a lot of people's faith in this system and it looked as though every liberal democracy was in severe decline. If democracy was in its death throes, the thinking must have gone, something must come along to replace it. That this replacement would either be Communism or Fascism was the question, and people were prepared to make either happen with force if necessary.

Generally referred to as the Berenstein/Berenstain Bears alternate universe theory

A TL;DR from reddit:

Basically, we used to live in a universe where it was indeed spelled with an E. There was another alternate universe where it was spelled with an A. If you check now, it is spelled with an A, and always was. Some time between the 90s and today, the "A" universe overlapped the E universe, and now we live in the A universe.

It genuinely confused me when I first heard it. I swear it was spelled 'Berenstein' and there are conflicting reports everywhere. Many believe it was always Berenstain and children commonly read it as Berenstein and remember it as such but many online claim that it was changed at some point without any real indication.

Some believe this is an example of the phenomena known as the "Mandela Effect" where many people seem to have real memories of events that never occurred. The theory gets its name from the individuals who had the memory of reading/hearing about Nelson Mandela dying in prison, while no such event ever occurred. Looking deeper into the theory, one can see claims of converging timelines, where tiny details change and overlap, giving us memories of events that occurred in timelines other than our own.

Our current timeline is the "A Timeline" where BeranstAin is the correct spelling. We formerly inhabited the "E Timeline" but at some point the two alternatte timelines crossed and the E's were changed to A's, changing BerenstEin to BerenstAin. This is the Mandela Effect at work. We have memories from a timeline other than ours when two alternate universes unknowingly converged at some point in time.

It was probably always fucking Berenstain and the internet is overthinking things as always

My favorite thing about conspiracy theorists is that according to them, every single event happening in the last century or so was a false flag. So if it wasn't for those damn Rothschilds, we would have achieved world peace by now.

By the way, why is it called the "New world order" if all the people involved (Rothschilds, zionists banksters, Illuminatis, Bildeberg, etc.) have already been secretely controlling the world for decades/centuries? Sounds like the "Old world order" to me.

Already posted this on in the Gaming side conspiracy thread from a few days ago, but I think it belongs here too.

This topic showed up on reddit a few days ago and the one I liked is that we used to live in a universe where the books/show was called BerenstEin Bears (ask anyone and they'll remember it that way) but we've since shifted into a universe where it's called BerenstAin Bears and always was.

Mole people are real!

It's always been Berenstein. How could it change??

Dude there's a huge amount of both footage and text to go through with this :D

You'd probably get a kick out of listening to this episode of the Joe Rogan podcast where Jon Ronson, the author of The Men Who Stare At Goats, talks about going there with Alex Jones which I believe was the first released footage of their "rituals" and what not. Ronson was actually the guy that turned Jones onto the Grove to begin with. Pretty interesting and hilarious re-telling of their "infiltration" into it.

Jon Ronson on Joe Rogan Podcast

Kubrick directed the Apollo landing footage.

The documentary Room 237 is good fun for conspiracies like that. It's all insane obviously but entertaining as hell.

I'm partial to anything involving NASA and aliens, something amusing about ex NASA people trying to sell a book or something after they've retired and trying to get that conspiracy nut dollar. Stuff like this is just endlessly amusing:

NASA Employee Saw 9-Foot Tall Alien With Astronauts in Space Shuttle — Evidence Of Military Alliance With Alien Race?

Some online UFO websites are revisiting the strange case of Clark C. McClelland, a man who claimed in 2008 that he was a retired spacecraft operator (ScO) with NASA’s Shuttle Fleet at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida from 1958 to 1992.

McClelland claimed that he was involved in more than 650 NASA missions, including the Mercury program, Apollo missions, launching of the International Space Station (ISS) and the Space Shuttle program.

While skeptics have dismissed McClelland as delusional, UFO and alien enthusiasts take his disclosures with characteristic credulity. His incredible story has had a profound impact on the ET/UFO disclosure movement and the historical development of alien/UFO conspiracy theories since 2008. Disclosures such as McClelland’s have been the mainstay of the “fanatical fringe” of the ET/UFO disclosure movement.

On July 29, 2008, McClelland released a story on his website Stargate Chronicles, in which he claimed that he once observed an 8-9ft tall extraterrestrial interacting with NASA astronauts during a Space Shuttle mission he was monitoring from the Kennedy Space Center.

According to McClelland, while monitoring the mission — a top secret DoD mission — from the Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Control Center (LCC) on a 27 inch video monitor, he saw something he was not meant to see — an 8-9 foot tall alien with a humanoid form — two arms, two hands, two legs, two feet, a slender torso, proportionate head — standing upright on two legs in the Space Shuttle Payload Bay, interacting with two tethered U.S. astronauts.

http://www.inquisitr.com/1951700/na...vidence-of-military-alliance-with-alien-race/

I mean the sad thing is that some of them like that guy might be suffering from schizophrenia or something, but in a lot of cases it seems like someone trying to get PR or make a buck.

There's another story I read years back a friend linked me that was this insanely detailed account of a top secret NASA mission that made contact with ETs and actually went to their planet to live with them and study them. A few died there while the others continued to live with the aliens, integrating with their society. It was so absurd but the level of detail put into it gave it a fun pulp vibe that made it interesting, will try to find the original...

I never believed it but that was one of my favorite stories that was on Art Bell's radio show, years ago.

WTF that's really weird. Definitely have memories of seeing book covers with that spelling. My guess is there are so many last names that end in "stein" that most people homogenized the word in their minds to fit with the rest. I blame Frankenstein. He clearly has more power than those damn bears.

edit: Also personal experience, for over a decade I was fucking convinced the actor Rip Torn had died due to a heart attack or something, and a weirder thing is that I specifically remember that it occurred before MIB II started filming so he wasn't in it. Fast forward to about a week ago as I'm rewatching episodes of The Larry Sanders Show and on a whim I wiki Torn's name and low and behold, dude is alive and was also in the second film. Seriously weirded me out. I'm guessing some other actor in a different franchise croaked around the same time after MIB came out and my brain swapped them with Torn.

I always found the "no planes" theories about 9/11 to be kind of amusing in how ridiculous they were. Essentially they believe that there were no real planes on 9/11 and that it was really the work of advanced hologram technology.

The Phantom Time Hypothesis: The years 614 AD to 911 AD never happened and were a conspiracy by the Holy Roman Emperor, the Pope, and the Byzantine Empire.

It is just so silly, easily disprovable, european centric while also being for such a stupid supposed motive, so they could rule during the year 1000 AD when Jesus would return.

What is funny is there a Russian theory that is similar but it says the corresponding "dark ages" of Russian history never existed. It's just historians try-harding to prove their culture never had periods of stagnation.

I love all the alien stuff. All the fictions, the extensive reports, the stories, that shit is amazing. I love it all. Especially the Alien Reproduction Vehicle story, which is probably the one i'd love to actually be true.

Cool. Looks like one of the guys is trying to get a doc funded on it called Zero Point.

McCandlish says that in 1988 he and a friend were planning on attending an air show at Norton Air Force Base. McCandlish ended up having to cancel due to a last minute illustration needed by Popular Mechanics. However, his friend went and through a well connected acquaintance, was able to gain entrance to a secured area of the base with a special display for politicians and military personnel with high level security clearances.

His friend told him that in this display were three flying saucers floating above the ground. They made no sound. One of them had the side panels removed so that you could see inside. There was also a monitor showing a video of these craft being test-flown. They made “hopping” maneuvers, and then could shoot straight up at incredible speeds. All while making no sound. The craft were referred to as Alien Reproduction Vehicles (ARVs), and also had the nickname, the “Flux Liner.” McCandlish says he believes these are part of a secret program that has been around for decades.

Using his friend’s description, McCandlish sketched the vehicle. He has since done research on how he believes the technology works. He says they use zero-point energy, a concept originally theorized by Albert Einstein.

Oh shit I had to look it up haha. Probably because of the way it's pronounced we thought it was an E.

Nah man that's too easy. Universe shift for real.

I had a lost childhood friend pop back into my life via Facebook, only to try to convince me of HAARP and Devil-Obama theories.

At first I felt annoyed, then just felt pity for the poor sod.

When conspiracy theories are proven to be true (let's take MKUltra as an example), I have to believe that at least some of the current conspiracy theories are also true, just not proven yet. If you lived in the 50's and someone told you the US government was secretly administering hallucinogenic drugs to unwitting US citizens, would you have laughed it off? Then we see years later that it was true. Makes me wonder sometimes how many secrets are really out there. Now, I doubt lizard men, or aliens, or any of that stuff is real. The point is, we shouldn't automatically laugh at conspiracy theories just because they are conspiracy theories.

As someone who just finished reading 11/22/63 I have to go with the
Oswald did act alone
. Made the book more suspenseful trying to find out the truth.

Can't find the link to the video right now but there's a guy who went around doing a ton of presentations on his experiences with aliens at secret military bases. His stories aren't the usual ones, he talks about full on battles taking place between workers and aliens using all sorts of crazy weaponry. He talks about them so casually, even though people die in the stories. He died a while back leaving people to believe he was murdered by the government. His stories are so fun to listen to because he talks about insane, explosive shit as part of if it was his daily routine.

Generally referred to as the Berenstein/Berenstain Bears alternate universe theory

A TL;DR from reddit:

Found this thread and this comment thread is gold:

The image is shopped; the E in "stein" is exactly the same as the E in "Be". Only a handful of the pixels are different, but that's caused by the jpeg compression.

You can also see a very slight outline where the tail of the e meets the i. None of the other letters have that.

So there's more to e than meets the i.
:lol
ThreeSixty.

OH MY GOD. That doesn't answer the question at all, and makes you seem like a complete nutter.
