This is always a subject of debate between people I know. Should Hispanic, Arabs, Asians, etc.. be able to use the N-word? Particularly Arabs from North Africa who say that they can say it because they're from Africa.

Your thoughts GAF?

Non black POC here, and yeah, don't say it.
If anything, I think non blacks shouldn't ever feel /okay/ with saying it even if their black friends are cool with it in that sort of situation that often gets brought up.

I grew up with a lot of Hispanics (Puerto
Ricans mostly), I heard it fairly often? I never heard anyone take issue so I never thought too much of it.

edit: lot of Puerto Ricans are black now that I think on it. Probably should've put that together.

Having proper and civil social interactions means having to feel out what you can say to people and what you can't.

I probably wouldn't lead with the N-Word.

I'll quote myself from the other thread that we just had about this:
As the word was created and used exclusively to denigrate us, absolutely.
It doesn't matter how someone who isn't black feels about the word, they are allowed to be divorced from it.

I am all too used to that in our annual "Why can't I say nigger too?!" thread.

And if white people don't get to say it, being black doesn't "excuse its use."

If you are not black, do not fucking say it. The fucking end.

Did you not get the answer you were hoping for in the other thread?

Unless those Arabs from Africa are black, they can't say it.

Saying nigger in some part of the world is okay. Example in Martinique or Haiti it is commonly used. Mostly because of the prestigious note that the french language gave to the word. Oh and the damn colorism about rather being called a negress rather than a ''black'' person.

It's not a universal word that is accepted everywhere. How are people not getting that?

I think anyone should be able to say Nigga or Nigger if it's in reference to the word or in a novel/historical text (and that they should do so) or in music, which has been my perspective ever since reading half of Huckleberry Finn in elementary school.

Beyond that though?

Don't use it in conversation/as an insult, and when it comes to nigga, take that up with the black people up in your immediate vicinity.

Where i'm from there wasn't really ever any policing of it so despite being black that discussion wasn't very relevant until High School which was when all of the police shootings/protests were breaking out and myself and other black kids started developing our social justice ideologies and started to make shifts in what we accepted in our friends circles/from others and what not.

I'm ambivelant on it in either direction mostly, but it's probably just easier not to say it and if you say it to not say it within the vicinity of any black person who hasn't "cleared" you to use it (not that I believe in the concept of a "nigga pass") and not to say it if any black person tells you not to.

Especially since so many people who try to fight to say nigga end up being bigots themselves or people who don't care about/dismiss the black fight for civil rights/the issues that plague us as unnecessary and fiction, not cool.

I'm uncomfortable singing along with Amanda Palmer's (she's white) Guita Hero because she says Hey, nigga, in it. I'm Native American.

So nope, not even for us.

Heard a Cypress Hill song the other day in which this happened. Apparently guy got a pass because he is hispanic. But he looks straight up white! Weird thing.

I have another question, if you're not black and you're rapping along to songs, is it ok to say the word? I don't do it because I don't want to make anyone I'm around uncomfortable but I know others who let loose around others and don't give a fuck and say the N-word like its nothing while rapping along to songs. They don't use it in their everyday speech, just when rapping songs.

I'm going to be honest, I've done it a few times alone but I seldom rap along to songs when I listen to them. I save that for pop smash hits. Just want to get a consensus on if this is racist/totally wrong to do.

If your a non-black POC and you wanna say nigga but can't, try to find a word white people used (or still use) to oppress you and replace it with that. Just crack open that racist dictionary and take a look. This can be fun for the whole family.

As a black man, I never had a problem with my Hispanic friends saying it in High School. But that probably had a lot to do with knowing they weren't racist. I'm not exactly proud of the fact that I still use the word around my friends when we chill. I can easily not say it at all around other people or in a professional setting.

Is it just as reprehensible to refer to a fellow white guy as "my nigga".

Or is the word banned from all speech unless you're black?

Do you think one day it'll be allowed or never.

Just don't do it. Absolutely no reason to at all.

Don't give me the I was singing a song excuse either. Skip the word. I don't want to hear my black friends say it's OK, it's not. I don't want to hear anything about your freedom of speech, you got the freedom to get a foot in your ass too.

Don't say it.

Gonna quote an old story i remember posting about the last n-word thread I remember posting in.

I knew one dude who told me to call him the n-word so that he could call me a spic(or rather "spica" which he thought sounded hilarious) without feeling bad about it. I assured him that while I appreciated both the intention and his permission, following through with it would likely have resulted in me getting a couple dirty looks.

I assured him he had permission to call me a spic, spica or anything else he wanted to but that I'd stay away from the n-word to avoid both being rude and asskickings in the streets. He understood my intentions and intended to buy me a beer for it. I'm more of a girly drinks kinda guy, so instead he bought me haagen dazs ice cream. I feel like I got too much for too little. I think that night ended in a lot of alcohol and the word "bro" being uttered more than it is likely legally allowed to.

I love that bastard, good friend.

For some added context, what happened is that he had never heard the word spic before. Then he heard it once and he was like "...That sounds so fucking fun to say" with the goofiest smile, then he was like "Oh, shit, I feel bad saying that to you." Theeen the quoted story developed from that haha

It's a no. Like, I get why some non-Black POC would use it if they grew up in neighbourhoods alongside Black people (New York) but it still doesn't sit right with me. As someone who lives in an area where there are no such Black neighbourhoods (British Columbia) whenever I run into non-Black POC saying nigga it immediately comes across like they think they're cool because they use it. Growing up, I was always hearing Asian dudes using it and shit pissed me off.

It bugs me to this day that JLo says nigga in I'm Real, and Ja Rule have her the pass on that shit.

Is it just as reprehensible to refer to a fellow white guy as "my nigga".

Quickest way to make me want to slap a dude is for White dudes to call each other niggas.
