But I can't believe how shit games looked in 2003 according to those screenshots. It's amazing how far we've come without me realising.

Jedi Knight Academy probably takes the cake for that year for me.

Force Unleashed was fun but it just wasn't the same I want more star wars games in that vein, but EA and exclusive licensing.

For me it's definitely Golden Sun: The Lost Age. The writing and dialogues might not have been anything to write home about, but the sense of adventure TLA offered is still hard to come by in other RPGs nowadays.

The way it connected to GS1 later on too was amazing, and having even more djinni made the class system from the original even better. All in all a fantastic sequel.

Incredible year, I remember it fondly. Jak II, Ratchet & Clank 2, Need for Speed, Call of Duty, the list goes on of what I enjoyed. But one game stands out above the rest and that's Dark Cloud 2. One of my favorite games of all time.

Soul Calibur II and Project Gotham Racing 2 gave me and my family a ton of hours of entertainment. Bought both the same day.

I'm going to say F-Zero GX. It's not an especially great year when a racing game is my favorite. That said, it is a pretty fucking awesome racing game! But yeah...a lot of disappointments that year.

I kind of feel the same way. There are many I enjoyed there, but some haven't aged as well (the jump from Going Commando to Up Your Arsenal was huge, and the latter is a far better game now than the former is), one was very fun but had cheap A.I. (Double Dash), one was fun but probably took some steps in the wrong direction (Dynasty Warriors 4), and on and on.

Still plenty of fun, but not as great as 01/04/05 were for that gen imo.

I gotta give this one to Wind Waker, but honestly I don't think the competition was very steep for this year. I went through the list mostly going "Yeah... That game was pretty good, I guess?"

A few other games that I want to shout out:
Wario Ware was the best new portable thing Nintendo had done in years.
Panzer Dragoon Orta was a damn fine rail shooter.
Otogi was a unique hidden gem, I loved the art-style.
Prince of Persia was a really good action-platformer.

Otherwise, everything I played from this year I would call "solid" for its time and place, but not much was exceptional.
